Peugeot 2008 restyled: what changes compared to the old

This May 4, Peugeot unveiled the expected restyling of the 2008 Peugeot. Only a few weeks after Renault, who preferred to start by restyling his city car Clio before Captur, it is the lion that retouchs its urban SUV before operating the same transformations on the 208. To better distinguish differences with the 2008 before restyling, Auto-Moto compares them in a first virtual match.
The 2008, launched in 2019, has already sold nearly 700,000 copies in Europe. It was even the best -selling SUV on the old continent in 2021, also appearing in second place in the overall sales ranking behind the 208 at the start of 2021. Peugeot therefore hopes to keep what makes the model success, that is to say its sharp look, its dynamic performances and its very techno cabin.

Peugeot 2008 restyled (2023): there are many more changes than it seems

Peugeot renews its range. After the 508, the time has come for the 2008 to repudiate their noses to continue to seduce customers. It will be launched this summer.

The second generation of Peugeot 2008 was launched three years ago. The lion manufacturer judged that it was time to give it a second youth through a restyling that will be marketed this summer . As we will see, in addition to the modifications made to the exterior design, the French manufacturer adds a hybrid version and improves power as well as the autonomy of the E-2008 electric version.

There is change outside.

Peugeot designers have changed the light signature of the urban SUV by adding the three characteristic claws of the brand that we have also seen on the new face of the Peugeot 508 restyled. These fires are accompanied by new headlights, a new logo and a new grille. The rear lights are also different.

The Peugeot 2008 has black mirrors and 16 ”, 17” and 18 ”rims. It is available in different colors, including this selenium gray available as standard. The manufacturer added another color, the white orte.

. And also inside

Inside, the restyled 2008 retains its i-Cockpit with an instrumentation of 10 ”presenting a new graphics as well as a 10” info-divisional screen ”. The seats are covered with optional Alcantara on the GT version. The six -speed gear lever is new, and the driver can choose from eight room colors.

The restyled Peugeot 2008 benefits from wireless connectivity compatible with Android Auto and Apple Carplay. There are many driving aids with adaptive cruise control, line crossing alert, automatic emergency braking, recognition of traffic signs, etc.

The Peugeot E-2008 improves

Under the hood, and as specified at the start of the article, a 48V hybrid purtech version enters the catalog . It is based on engine 1.2 PureTech and offers a total power of 136 hp. The electric motor is housed in the gearbox which allows, according to the manufacturer, to reduce fuel consumption by 15 %.

Regarding the Peugeot E-2008, the 100 % electric version, its power goes from 136 hp to 156 hp . The capacity of its battery was slightly improved with no less than 54 kWh (against 50 kWh for the non -restyled version). This benefits autonomy, which goes from 345 km to 406 km. The vehicle can be recharged in direct current up to 100 kW and find 80 % of its autonomy in 30 minutes.

Peugeot 2008 restyled: what changes compared to the old ?

Just revealed, the restyled Peugeot 2008 is already under the magnifice magnifice in front of its predecessor. The opportunity to better see what is changing and what remains identical.

Thus, the Sochalian evolves mainly at the front to receive the new identity of the brand, inaugurated by the restyled 508 a few weeks earlier. The luminous fangs on each side of the shield are replaced by blocks of three claws, inserted in a black lacquered insert. Unlike the 508, they are not in the direct extension of the main projectors. They also keep their shape, even if the GT finish offers them three more worked “full led” modules. The grille also retains its shape and small element (now bodywork color) on which the 2008 logo is affixed. On the other hand, the pattern is different and the grid extends on each side to the optics to visually widen it. Peugeot specifies that the mirror shells are black, while the roof can be shiny black as an option.

Status quo at the rear and on board

At the back, the difference is more tenuous. The headband changes, with a new thicker font for the Peugeot logo in all letters, while the lion logo disappears from the tailgate. The lights are also reworked: the overall shape is identical, but the interior of the optics is revised with three double horizontal strips superimposed instead of the three vertical claws.
The passenger compartment, very modern when it was released with its I-Cockpit architecture, hardly moves. Peugeot announces the series arrival of the 10 -inch central touch screen, which was rather reserved for high -end finishes while the entries had a 7 -inch panel. The counters can be digital on a 10 -inch slab also, except for the entry -level active which keeps its old -fashioned needles. A 3D display completes the high GT finish, which is entitled in other respects such as customizable ambient lighting, an optional Alcantara upholstery or even a more powerful induction smartphone charger (15W against 5 previously).

New engines at launch … or a few months later

It is ultimately under the hood that it moves the most, or almost. For the moment, the restyled 2008 is launched with its petrol engines 1.2 PureTech 100 and 130 hp and its only diesel 1.5 BlueHDI 130 hp, already offered before restyling. But early 2024, an advanced 48V hybridization with EDCT gearbox incorporating an electric motor will replace petrol engines. It will be a 136 hp petrol engine, also planned on board 3008 and 5008 and other group vehicles.

At the same time, the 2008 receives the new version of the electric motorization of the Stellantis group. Already seen on the Jeep Avenger and DS3 E-Tense restyled, this 156 hp variant is associated with a 54 kWh battery. It replaces the 136 hp of the old block, which was associated with a 50 kWh battery before. What to offer more autonomy, since Peugeot already announces 406 km on paper, against 345 km so far. As for the load, the restyled 2008 has two cables for the load on alternating current (7.4 kW single -phase single or 11 kW three -phase as optional) and climbs up to 100 kW on a quick terminal. The “full” can be made from 20 % to 80 % in 30 min on a quick terminal, or in 4:40 from a wallbox (7.4 kW).

Marketing this summer

The marketing of the restyled Peugeot 2008, and its E-2008 electric variant, will take place in the summer of 2023. It will always be produced in the Vigo factory, in Spain. The range is simplified with three finishes against five currently: Active, Allure and GT. For the moment, Peugeot does not yet give the prices of his 2008 updated. Today, the SUV is offered from € 26,570 in entry -level Active Pack finish.
