Among the best-selling urban SUVs in Europe since 2019, number one in 2021, the Peugeot 2008 intends to maintain itself at the top of the ranking for the next four years at least, with a restyling of mid-term accentuating its aesthetic markers.

Facing the Renault Captur, the second generation Peugeot 2008 chooses the angles and a beautiful outdoor volume which places it on the border with the upper segment (4.30 m long). The Citadin SUV in the lion, renewed almost at the same time as its competitor, is a beauty before the latter in the hope of getting ahead of the market and maintaining itself among the most popular in its category in Europe , as it has been for four years. For this, it reinforces what has made its specificity: a style of character with sharp and marked edges.

As on the sedan and the break 508, this facelift adds two claws on each side of the front shield, three in total, a little more separate from the optical blocks and placed under a glass surface, making disappear in passing the fog lights. On the highest “GT” finish, which previously owned these three claws in the headlights, they are replaced by three Full LED lighting modules keeping this “feline” spirit.

The headlights are more broadly attached to the grille gate by an insert which extends it to the lower angles of the spotlights. The decorative facets of the central part of this grid are now thicker and vertical on the two highest levels of equipment (Allure and GT), body color. Active finish has a more classic horizontal grid.

The inscription “2008” at the end of the hood goes from the chrome to a dark gray shade and descends slightly to fit into the banner above the grille. The front spout has also been reworked, with two blades going up to the center for more dynamism.

The flanks are especially marked by the new rims whose cache is gaining volume and wins four branches by integrating the new Peugeot coat of arms on a shiny black background. The style is inspired by the design of conceptual rims of the 408 and the sizes offered range from 16 to 18 inch.

The stern concentrates fewer newness than the bow but with great change inside the lights, it is effectively renewed for a more statutory rendering. Two lines of three strips in red glasses in red are overlapping on a dark background. A modern depth effect and a light signature in the continuity of the black banner which connects the lights between them. The name of the brand registered at this location changes font, stretches and agrees with the name of the model at the front.

The electric version “E-2008”, representing more than 10 % of the production of Peugeot’s urban SUV since 2019, or around 75,000 units, sees its power increase by 15 % with now 156 horses against 136 horsepower previously. Its battery increases its capacity in parallel in less important proportions, since its raw capacity goes from 50 kWh to 54 kWh. The manufacturer of Sochaux announces that this would allow a gain of 65 kilometers of autonomy, with 406 km according to the mixed WLTP cycle.

The on -board charger is maintained at 7.4 kW of power with an optional 11 kW passage.

The Peugeot E-2008 also modifies its “E” logos, on the wings in particular, also winning claws by parant with three white horizontal bars.

The upcoming hybrid

But while the Peugeot city models left the hybrid (rechargeable) to the biggest vehicles in the catalog, in order to focus on the “Full Electric”, the restyled 2008 will still host hybridization in 2024, at the start of the year. A 48 V unpublished mechanics which will not require external recharge. A new double clutch gearbox and six reports will integrate the electric motor to support a latest generation Puretech petrol block developing 136 horsepower. A drop in consumption of around 15 % is expected with a driving rate in 100 % electric mode of more than half the time spent in town.

Regarding the presentation of the passenger compartment, the upholstery coverings are renewed and the topstitching meet their graphics according to the finish, while the gear lever knob of the engines with a mechanical gearbox is new. The automatic box selector had already been revised before the restyling for a discreet command not exceeding the central console. Access to storage is facilitated, as well as induction recharge whose power is tripled to reach 15 W. There are now up to four USB ports (2 USB-C at the front, 1 USB-A and 1 USB-C at the rear.

The main novelty on board is observed at the central screen level. While its diagonal on range entries was 7 inches, it necessarily increases to 10 inches for all 2008 and higher finishes benefit from a high definition resolution. The latest multimedia system of the group is integrated, faster and more readable. Parking cameras also go to high definition. The rear view camera can now be accompanied by a camera at the front.

As for the “I-Cockpit”, the raised peugeot meters, the customizable displays take the opportunity to change their appearance. The 10 -inch screen arrives from the “Allure” level and the 3D display from “GT”. The 2008 “active” retains its analog counters.

Remotely, the new 2008 can be updated and its smartphone application adds among its functionalities the sending of destinations to on -board navigation, a journey planner for the electric version as well as a digital maintenance booklet.

Produced in Spain, the Peugeot 2008 restyled will be available in the summer of 2023 in six body shades (orange disappears and dark gray as well as white have been revised). The prices have not yet been announced.
