The differences between SIM and Esim card

ESIM (Embedded SIM) is a SIM card integrated into equipment (mobile or connected watches). ESIM does not require manipulation such as the physical sim card to benefit from its services.

The advantages of ESIM:

You have a mobile equipped with the new ESIM technology.

It means that :

  • In case of renewal: activation is faster and possible upon receipt and validation of your QR code. It is effective within 1 hour, against about 3 working days for a physical sim card,
  • The dematerialized format avoids handling problems when cutting,
  • The after -sales service is no longer necessary versus the SIM card.

Good to know: Pin and Puk codes associated with your new ESIM are not the same as your old SIM card . Carefully keep your new PIN and PUK codes. They are informed about the document downloaded from your order confirmation email. Print or save this QR code, in order to be able to reuse it, if necessary, on the same mobile or during a change of mobile. Your QR code remains accessible for a year in your RED customer account.

I wish to take out a Red mobile plan with an ESIM

Good to know: for technical reasons, ESIM is no longer available when subscribing to a Red by SFR mobile subscription on our online store.

Any new customer subscribing to the Red Package without associated mobile, can choose between a physical sim card and a virtual SIM (ESIM).

The costs of commissioning ESIM are invoiced at the same price as the physical sim card, namely 10 euros .

You just have to subscribe to the RED package from our online store and select the desired SIM format.

Good to know: if you have asked for the preservation of your mobile line number, when ordering, you can immediately flash your QR code (before the activation date of your number portability) in order to save Your ESIM profile in your mobile

Following the order of your ESIM, you receive an email with a QR code that you will have to download and scan.

The QR activation code for your ESIM is reusable when you change your mobile.

Prerequisites to scan the QR code well:


  1. Check that your ESIM mobile is connected to the Internet (in WiFi or via your mobile network),
  2. Favor WiFi to do the ESIM subscription route,
  3. If you are handling from your mobile, a second screen will be necessary to scan the QR code (2nd mobile, tablet, PC. ) or you can print the QR code previously,
  4. Put the brightness of your mobile as much as possible to facilitate the flashing of the QR code,
  5. scan the QR code.

How to do if I can’t scan the QR code ?

In case of difficulty scanning the QR code, you can enter it manually from the menu of your mobile.

Refer to the email containing the attachment with the QR code and enter the data registered under the QR code:

  • SM-DP address
  • Activation code

Before activating my esim

Before proceeding to activate your ESIM it is recommended to identify your situation among the 3 proposed below to secure the activation of your ESIM and the conservation of your data.

I have subscribed to a new package with Esim

Your mobile plan and your QR code will be directly activated when confirming your order, all you have to do is activate your ESIM in your smartphone with the QR code received.

Important: In no case delete your new ESIM profile on your mobile, it is mandatory for the proper functioning of your mobile line.

I renewed my SIM card for an esim

Your ESIM will replace your current SIM or ESIM card within 1 hour to give you time to scan the QR code .

You keep your phone number.

To finalize the activation of ESIM you will have to restart your smartphone. You can remove the physical sim from your mobile once your esim activated.

Important: if you had a physical sim card, be sure to safeguard the data in your mobile or on a cloud, before activating your new ESIM, otherwise they will be lost.

I renewed my mobile at Red and I want to install or reinstall an esim


  • I already have an esim

It is possible to transfer your ESIM to another compatible phone, for that:

  1. Recover the QR code of your ESIM in your customer account,
  2. Delete ESIM profile from the SIM manager or from cellular data according to the model of your old mobile,
  3. Connect your new mobile in wifi or cellular mode,
  4. Scan the ESIM QR Code with your new mobile.

  • I want to change for an esim

You must wait 7 days after receiving your new mobile, to make a new ESIM order.

In the meantime, you can continue to use your old mobile,

or your new smartphone with the physical sim card integrated into your package.

You will just have to activate it from your RED customer account

It is once the new phone is configured with ESIM, that you can erase your data on the old phone.

Activate my esim from an iPhone

Go to “Settings” then:

  1. Select “Cellular data”,
  2. Scan your QR code with the camera of your phone (the QR code must be displayed from on another device: a computer, a tablet or from a printed document),
  3. If you cannot flash the QR code, select the link “Enter the data manually”. (the data to enter is at the bottom of the QR code received by email),
  4. Click on “Add a cell package”,
  5. You receive an activation confirmation SMS of your ESIM (under 1 hour in the event of SIM renewal)
  6. restart your smartphone to benefit from ESIM features.

Activate my esim from a Samsung

Go to your settings then:

  1. Select “Connections”,
  2. Go to the “SIM card manager” menu,
  3. Select “Add a mobile package”,
  4. Please wait for loading time or select “Add via a QR code”,
  5. Scan the QR code you just received by email with the camera of your phone (the QR code must be displayed from on another device: a computer, a tablet or from a printed document),
  6. If you cannot flash the QR code, select the link “Enter the data manually”. (the data to enter is at the bottom of the QR code received by email),
  7. Choose “Save” your ESIM profile,
  8. Press “OK” to activate the mobile package,
  9. Check that your ESIM profile appears on “SIM card manager”.
  10. You receive an activation confirmation SMS of your ESIM (under 1 hour in the event of SIM renewal),
  11. restart your smartphone to benefit from ESIM features.

Activate my esim from a huawei

Go to your settings then:

  1. Select “Mobile data network”,
  2. Choose “SIM Cards Management”,
  3. Press the small blue link “Add Esim”,
  4. Click in “ESIM” then add an ESIM by click on the ” +” at the bottom of the screen,
  5. Scan the QR code received by e-mail with the camera of your phone (the QR code must be displayed from on another device: a computer, a tablet or from a printed document),
  6. If you cannot flash the QR code, select the link “Enter the data manually”. (the data to enter is at the bottom of the QR code received by email),
  7. Your ESIM is ready to be downloaded,
  8. Back on the previous screen, select your new ESIM card (ESIM 2),
  9. Activate your ESIM by moving the cursor to the right.

Recover my QR code from my customer account

You have not received the email with your QR code ?

Do not panic this one is also available from your RED customer account for a year.

To access anything could be simpler:



      1. Go to your customer account in the “Offer and Mobile” section,
      2. From the “Mobile” tab, select “Activate my SIM / ESIM card”,
      3. Click on “Download the QR Activation Code for your latest ESIM ordered”,
      4. Download the profile of your esim from your laptop/tablet by scanning this QR code with your smartphone.

      Good to know: if your QR code is no longer accessible in your customer account then you will have to order a physical sim card.

      By ordering an ESIM card as part of a card renewal, you will receive a new PIN code as well as a new PUK RED SFR code. THE default PIN code Being 0000, it is advisable to change it immediately for better security of your device and your information.

      Order an ESIM Red SFR during a new subscription to a package

      How to activate your ESIM Red SFR card ?

      Before activating your ESIM Red SFR card, you must save the data on your physical sim card so as not to lose it.

      To activate your ESIM Red SFR card from an iOS iOS iOS, do as follows:

      1. Go to the settings of your iPhone.
      2. Click on Cellular data.
      3. Launch your camera and scan your QR code (open from another device).
      4. Click on Add a cell package.

      How much does an esim red sfr card cost ?

      THE shipping costs of an ESIM card amount to the same amount as those of a classic Triple cut SIM card. When ordering, you will have to pay the sum of € 10 in addition to the amount of your package. Unlike the price of your package which is applied monthly, these commissioning costs only applyonce.
