Optical fiber compulsory for all housing under construction, fiber optics will be such a compulsory? Mobile & Internet package – Forum Que Choisir

Optical fiber will be such a compulsory

The account of the work indicates me that it is I who must make the installation to prepare the passage and the connection of the fiber by an electrician and that the costs are at my expense. Being a tenant in a building I am surprised because my neighbors are already connected to the fiber !

Optical fiber now compulsory for old housing under construction

Since May 8, 2017, under the Macron law, connection to optical fiber is compulsory for all the old housing which is subject to rehabilitation works requiring a construction permit. This constraint has already affected new houses and buildings since 2016.

Compulsory optical fiber for new and old accommodation

As part of the development of internet coverage of the territory, the Macron law has made it compulsory to install an optical fiber connection in all newly built dwellings, since September 1, 2016.

Thus, all new constructions must be equipped with an internal accommodation service of the accommodation and a connection box at the limit of property. A derogation can be obtained if the accommodation is built in an area not covered by the fiber. But beware: the risk is that the territory ends up being fiber and that the owner is forced to carry out the connection work if he wishes to resell !
Now, old housing is also affected by this obligation. As soon as the rehabilitation of a building requires the deposit of a building permit, it is essential to provide a point of connection to fiber optics. However, an exemption is provided, in the event of technical impossibility linked to an existing frame.

Optical fiber for all: a government ambition

At the end of 2016, almost 16 million dwellings were eligible for fiber optics, but only 30% of them had an effective internet subscription. The government’s very high speed plan aims to promote access to the web with a speed greater than 30 megabits per second throughout the territory, by 2022.

This deployment should support the digital economy, but also all the projects in the city of tomorrow: the Smart City of Marseille for example. In 2017, the new President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, however nuanced this design. He notably stressed that fiber could probably not cover the territory in its smallest corners, and that other technologies (such as 4G) will have to complete this mesh.

Optical fiber will be such a compulsory ?

Good morning ,
In several articles I read that fiber will be compulsory from 2025.
By looking on the net there are several versions: the deployment will be finished on French territory in 2025, operators will no longer be able to sell ADSL packages from 2026 and the copper telephone network will be closed in 2030.
On the Orange network site it is even specified:
Do I have to take out an internet subscription with fiber ?
No, you can very well use fiber only to benefit from fixed telephony. In this case, you will have to subscribe to a subscription specific to your operator.
I’m a little lost in this calendar can you enlighten me ? Without the fiber will you still have access to the Internet ? Or just more landlines ?

Especially since the technicians undergoing orange who came to my home to install the fiber tell me that the fiber cannot be connected to my apartment (too difficult “without sinking everything !”).
The account of the work indicates me that it is I who must make the installation to prepare the passage and the connection of the fiber by an electrician and that the costs are at my expense. Being a tenant in a building I am surprised because my neighbors are already connected to the fiber !
Sincerely

Yes (and it is more than time).

No, no one is forced to take out an internet subscription.

It’s actually quite simple:
– More “copper” network
– So all the accommodation is (at least sensible to be. ) “fiber” connected
– On this fiber you ask for an internet subscription (therefore with VoIP telephony generally included, more often TV, etc . ) or telephone only (which, de facto will also be VoIP, because more copper, therefore more analog telephony – this is in fact already the case – but with a specific case).

Especially since the technicians undergoing orange who came to my home to install the fiber tell me that the fiber cannot be connected to my apartment (too difficult “without sinking everything !”).

Qualifying as “technician” the Sub stakeholders (under x n times)-operators of operators is very generous.

Surprising; On this legal point I let more competent answer.

It seemed to me that the operator had an obligation to install.

Well, if you want to avoid having apparent cable on the plinths, 20mm holes in the partitions, it is better to treat the installation and all this upstream with its electrician and when the “fiberman” (what you call quite Pleasantly a technician) manages him the entry fiber of the accommodation by holding him almost this language: “You, weld there; you understood ?””.
