First electric car from the Italian manufacturer Fiat, the 500th is presented on March 4, 2020, and launched in Europe in October. For its transition, the city car goes upmarket and breaks its popular and extravagant appearance with a retro-chic silhouet. It has a large range with 3 bodywork and 4 finishes as well as two battery sizes up to 321 km of autonomy.
Design and dimensions of the electric 500
The 2007 generation swore by the retro aspect recalling its very famous edition of the 1950s. In 2020, although going to the electric all, the little Transalpine does not upset its appearance. She had to reveal herself to the public during the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, canceled following the COVVI-19 epidemic, being content with an online presentation on March 4, 2020.
Nevertheless, she makes herself more masculine with more pronounced curves and an appearance higher -end. Its platform is completely new, where Fiat had invested 700 million euros in a plan dedicated to electrification also including future zero-emission and hybrid-reloadable models. However, the 500 is the only one to use it, after the abandonment of this base following the fusion of the FCA group with PSA.
The Fiat 500E wins in volume, with 3.63 meters in length for 1.75 m wide retro -folded and 1.53 m high. Three bodywork form the catalog, with the 3 doors “sedan”, the 2 doors with sliding roof “convertible” and the 4 doors “3+1”. The latter unpublished brings a second right door, passenger side, facilitating access to board thanks to the antagonistic opening. The 185 -liter cube chest, and up to 550 liters withdrew. Targeting the urban universe, the “Cinquecento” has a 9.7 -meter robbery diameter.
FIAT 500E engines and modes
The FIAT 500E electric is offered alongside conventional engines petrol of the old generations. It has an 87 kW engine (118 hp) whose maximum torque is 220 nm, and combines only with the large 42 kWh battery. The city car is dynamic, since it shot down 0 to 100 km/h in 9 seconds and 0 to 50 km/h in 3.1 seconds. The maximum speed is bridled at 150 km/h. A less powerful version of 70 kW (95 hp) is also available, only with the 23.8 kWh battery. The performances are slightly withdrawn, with 9.5 s at 0-100 km/h and 135 km/h at point.
It is possible to drive via 3 pipe modes: Sherpa, Range and Normal. The first seems to be an emergency mode, it limits the performance of the 500th to the maximum to preserve the autonomy. The speed is then capped at 80 km/h, slower accelerations, air conditioning and heated seats are automatically cut, even if they remain reactivable by the driver. Range mode also helps reduce consumption less restrictive.
By integrating a driving system into a pedal, it encourages to adopt a quieter driving. This technology based on the automatic regulation of regenerative braking (engine brake) also makes it possible to recover more energy in the battery when you raise the foot of the foot of the accelerator.
The characteristics of the Fiat 500 2020
The Fiat 500E electric also has level 2 autonomous driving technology. It is simply a support for maintaining the path associated with an adaptive cruise control. The system is managed from data captured by ultrasonic cameras and radars scattered on the vehicle.
Electric Fiat 500 batteries and autonomy
The 500th lithium-ion battery displays a capacity of 42 kWh (37.3 useful), one of the largest in its category. It consists of 98 cells with a tension of 400V, and weighs 294.3 kg. The city car promises 298 to 321 km of average autonomy (WLTP cycle) depending on the model and 430 to 460 km in the urban cycle.
A second smaller capacity battery, 23.8 kWh, allows a more accessible price to the Italian range. It logically sees the WLTP autonomy lower to 180 km on average, and 240 km in an urban cycle.
Electric Fiat 500E recharge
The Fiat 500E has a CCS Combo connector located on the right rear wing. This authorizes a quick continuous recharge up to a power of 85 kW (50 kW in battery 23.8 kWh). Under these conditions, the charging time is 35 minutes to go from 0 to 80% battery.
The vehicle can also charge by alternating up to 11 kW, this charger being standard. On a classic domestic socket, it takes about 3:15 p.m. for a full. On a 7.4 kW wallbox, the weather is reduced to around 6 hours while on a 11 kW terminal, it is only 4:15 (version 42 kWh).
Price and range of electric FIAT 500E

The first 500 customers were able to reserve the limited edition Primary Offering, via the Fiat website. The look and dimensions of the Fiat 500E
There are models that are hardly aging. A simple restyling makes it possible to modernize everything without touching the entire car. The Fiat 500 is one of them. How to imagine seeing the Italian city dweller, with her plump boil, which she has lost since 2007. The electric version takes up the same base, with a few details. The headlights are split in half and the 500 emblem proudly sits surrounded by four chrome bars. The rear adopts specific lights while the profile displays hidden doors. The classic mechanism has given way to an electrical system with buttons outside and inside. Available in 3 -door version and convertible, the 500th inaugurates a variation named 3+1. Behind this name hides an antagonistic door added on the right side (enough to suggest the BMW i3). The general dimensions are contained even if they offer a few centimeters more than the thermal model: 3.63 m against 3.55 m in length. The width increases from 1.63 m to 1.74 m and the height offers 1.52 m against 1.49.
Metamorphosis inside. Fiat has left aside the dashboard known for a whole new. It takes shape in length with clean lines and a ventilation grid that extends from the center to the passenger end. In the center a 10.25 inch touch screen takes place from the third finish. For the entry -level you must be satisfied with a smartphone support. A 7 -inch screen arrives on the second finish. The little Italian has sophisticated driving aids such as level 2 autonomous driving system or recognition of the panels and detectors of dead angles (depending on finish).
