Office applications are identical on Windows and Mac ?

Identical, no. The reference remains the Windows version, priority in terms of new products. But the macOS version is really very close. Even if there is here or there a different presentation of a toolbar or a dialog box, especially due to the specificities of each system, the options of Windows applications are almost all in Mac versions.

Should we have an internet connection to use Word and Excel ?

The initial installation on the computer as well as the updates of applications require that we connect to the Internet, if only to download the installation files. Can we keep our documents if we terminate the subscription to Microsoft 365 ?

Obviously. Your Office Documents belong to you, and the office suite installed on your computer will always allow you to display and print them, but not to modify them. On the web, there are licenses (a few euros or tens of euros) for old versions of Word or Excel (2010, 2013, 2016…) which will operate on old PCs under Windows 7, for example.

Can we install only certain applications of the Microsoft 365 suite ?

Versions for large companies provide all facilities. Alas, you can not install only certain Microsoft 365 applications for the general public or the Office suite, since the 2013 version. And either it is not allowed to uninstall certain software afterwards. Again, it’s all or nothing ! On a computer with a storage space of 256 GB or more, it is generally not a problem.
