Secretlab Magnus

Secretlab Magnus is a solid gamer office, taking advantage of excellent finishes. Fully designed in metal, it can be accompanied by many magnetic accessories making it particularly versatile and practical on a daily basis.

We also appreciate its large location facilitating the cable-management or its design that is both sober and original. Too bad that its price is so high and that no electric variant is available at the moment.

Secretlab Magnus test

After having forged an excellent reputation in the gaming armchairs sector, the Secretlab brand unveils its first office with the Magnus model.

On the program, an office with a premium design, designed around a magnetic ecosystem allowing it to be accompanied by many accessories in the blink of an eye. Completely made of metal, this first model displays serious ambitions and could well stand out from the current competition.

To see if its basic rate of € 499 (without accessories) is really justified, especially when you can today find power offices seated/standing in this same price range.

Unboxing

The office is delivered dismantled in an imposing cardboard box of around 50 kg. You might as well be clear, if you live in a building without elevator you will necessarily need a little help to succeed in moving the beast.

All the elements are perfectly protected by box reinforcements and other foams and plastics. Our package seems to have suffered a significant shock during transport but no damage is to be emphasized at the office level.

Once all the elements unpacked, we find:

Office editing

The assembly of the office can be done alone, but a little help is not too much for certain steps. To perform the assembly, a guide clearly explains the different steps to follow and stickers already present on certain parts avoid making a mistake.

We start by turning the tray then put it flat. Here you can use foam blocks present in the box to prevent it from coming to rest on the ground.

The turned tray, you come to fix its four feet using the screws present in the accessories box. Each of the feet has a small label indicating its position. If you lose them like us when unpacking, just find both feet with an additional screw step, they come to be placed at the back of the desktop.

These screw steps allow you to set a reinforcement bar between the two rear feet for the next step.

The office always returned, we then come to position and fix the tray where we will later come and store taken and other cables. A magnetic cache provides access to the two steps necessary for assembly.

We can then return the office and be two for this step is recommended. We then fix the rear cover of the desk, which can get up to provide direct access to its cables.

Last step: the installation of the magnetic carpet. Here, it will first be necessary to slide the carpet into a sort of metallic rail, then unroll it along the tray. The system is not necessarily the most intuitive and it will be necessary to take it several times to perfectly align it.

At the price of € 49, there is first of all a pack dedicated to Cable Management. It includes 2 magnetic covers to pass its cables along the desktop feet, 3 magnetic blocks to lock your cables on your tray and some Velcro cable ties. Each of these elements can also be purchased separately.

If you want to bring a little personalization to your office, the brand offers its own RGB LED band. Accompanied by its magnetic supports, it can settle inside the office or behind its slice according to your preferences. It is accompanied by a remote control to control the intensity of the lighting, the colors or the effects. Count around 59 €, which is clearly not given in relation to certain RGB stickers lights.

For those who wish to be able to easily store their gaming helmet after a game session, the brand offers a magnetic support that can be placed all over the office. It is available at a price of € 25, which is already a little less delusional price level.

Finally, for around twenty euros, there is a set of four magnetic “bumpers”, which can be placed on the rear feet of Secretlab Magnus in order to perfectly fill a possible gap between your office and your wall. Especially interesting if you have a little thick plinths.

Design & ergonomics

Place now in the design of this secretlab Magnus and the first thing that obviously jumps out in the eyes, it is its very metal design. From the first uses, the office offers an excellent feeling of confidence and we are clearly a notch over the traditional “gaming” offices, with the often “cheap” design.

The general look of the office is also more sober than what we usually come across in the sector and in the idea, it should be able to integrate without too much difficulty in most sets. Note, however, that it is only offered in black tones for the moment, accompanied by some discreet red accents.

On the dimensions side, the only version of the Magnus is accompanied by a length of 150 cm for a width of 70 cm. An average to large template, which will opt for a Dual-Screen By keeping his tower on his desk, or even a Triple-Screen By placing your box below.

The default height is 73.5 cm, but it is possible to adjust it to 75.5 cm thanks to screws present on each feet. If we are obviously far from the possibilities offered by a seated/standing office, it will at least be possible to align it with your floor.

On the side of general finishes, really not much to blame Secretlab Magnus. The office really breathes the quality and the different elements seem to be cut to last. Between its feet and its metal structure or its 20 mm wooden tray also reinforced by a metal plate, all the different elements inspire confidence and the office can support up to 100 kg of load. A great feat, because it must be admitted that facing a seated/standing office, the Magnus is much more discreet and much less bulky.

A little more in the details, we dwell first on the upper part of the office. Here, we therefore find this famous magnetic carpet in imitation leather which will come to cover the entire tray. If as we have seen in the introduction its installation is not necessarily the easiest, once in place it does not move anymore and perfectly protects the plateau of Secretlab Magnus.

The coating itself is also very pleasant to the touch, with a surface that is both soft and particularly resistant. The carpet indeed supports very much scratches and no brand appears when we try to torture it a little. Obviously, if it were to be damaged over time or if you want to opt for a slightly different design, it will be enough to order a new carpet from the Secretlab site to enjoy a desk like nine.

At present, only imitation leather carpets are offered by the brand, but one can imagine that other coatings will later appear. Why not a Nappa felt or leather model, like the brand’s most premium games of the brand.

Behind this carpet in XXL format, there is a hood which can be raised at 90 ° in order to provide direct access to the compartment dedicated to cable-management. There it breathes quality, with very solid metal hinges, which should last well over time.

This easy access to its cables is obviously one of the forces of this secretlab magnus. The space offered allows you to install a large multipleist and hide the whole of connectors in the blink of an eye. Work on cable-management From the upper part of the office greatly facilitates things and we have no longer to spend hours under his office.

The Magnus still allows you to access its cables from the lower part of the office, using a small magnetic hatch always well thought out. Managing your cables is a real breeze with this office and the followers of setup perfectly stored should appreciate.

In the idea, only the cable of your multipleist is supposed to get out of the office and there, it is possible to make it disappear thanks to magnetic covers that can be installed on the feet of Secretlab Magnus. A much cleaner system than the usual velcros.

Another little tip to manage your cables at best, the magnetic blocks to come and place on the carpet. These small modules, equipped with powerful magnets, allow you to lock your cables on the desk while keeping them easily at hand to come and recharge your smartphone or your wireless gaming mouse for example.

Back on the rear part of the desk, we will also have the possibility of coming to install the RGB lighting strip offered as an option. Obviously magnetic, it settles in the blink of an eye in front of the hood of the office, or directly on its rear edge depending on your preferences.

The strip is powered via USB and it will therefore be necessary to connect it to your PC or an external power supply to be able to enjoy your lights. Using

After a few days alongside this secretlab Magnus, the returns are very positive. In use, our first good impressions are confirmed and the office has excellent robustness once a complete setup installed on it. Despite relatively fine feet, the whole holds perfectly in place and does not move in all directions at the slightest movement.

The imitation leather carpet is pleasant on long office or gaming sessions, even if we will still recommend to opt for a real mouse mat for competitive game. The default sliding is perfectly correct, but does not compete either with specific models designed for skiing for example.

On the side of cable management, no complaints. Between the internal trunk allowing to hide its connection and the different magnetic accessories, we enjoy a perfectly clean without spending hours.

Finally, our only real regret is at the level of the very design of the office. By being limited to a sitting position, we can certainly play comfortably for hours by associating it with a secretlab titan Evo 2022 for example, but that will not replace the advantages and versatility offered by a real seated/standing office.

Conclusion

For a first attempt in the world of offices, Secretlab did not do things by halves and offers with this Magnus a particularly well -designed model. By relying on a solid construction, excellent finishes and a magnetic system providing many advantages, the secretlab manus stands out from the current competition and once again proves all the know-how of the brand.

If we can regret its use only “sitting”, this should not prevent this first model from finding its audience and establishing oneself as a real reference in the sector.

Obviously remains the question of the price, because with a basic price of € 499 to which it will be necessary to add almost € 150 to afford its full panel of accessories, the secretlab magnus is expensive, or even very expensive. At this price, it comes to compete with many electric models that can provide much better versatility of use. To better compete with the competition, we would have liked its various accessories to be directly included in its price of € 499.
