But one thing is certain, the altitude has very little affected the brand new Mercedes-Benz eqs 580 of 2023 that we led far beyond 10,000 feet above sea level. Mercedes took this segment by horns by giving its EQS all the luxury and the advanced engineering which it is capable of.

The resemblance between the EQS sedan and the SUV is obvious, the main difference being of course the size and the ground clearance. Sitting inside the EQS SUV, you will find it difficult to discern the differences. However, there is a very special small difference.

In the future, Mercedes will offer an interior option which will allow the owner to apply a Mercedes star pattern on a superb real wooden finish. And this same star motif can be applied to the grille, as well as an optional set of rims. This look is both very trendy and very classy. It is an imitation of Louis Vuitton or Coach/Michael Kors, these brands that use their logo as a pattern and proudly display it. Well, it is high time that Mercedes is inspired by the biggest in fashion – and it is the perfect model to introduce such an element of design.

Futuristic is an understatement

Regarding the rest of the interior space, the gigantic MBUX Hyperscreen screen is on the list of options, but it is really worth it. It is intuitive and easy to use, in addition to being fully customizable, while allowing the passenger before listening to his own music or watching a film with connected Bluetooth headphones, while the driver can listen to his own soundtrack or Use the on -board navigation system.

The only element of technology that we found a little too much is augmented reality for the navigation system. This is not the first time that we have experienced this system – in fact, the first time it was with the brand new Mercedes -AMG EQE in France. And although the system was, at the beginning, crushing, we were still used to it.

However, with OTA updates (Over-the-air) – now available on all Mercedes models – the system has received a little help. This means that arrows inspired by a video game that “appears” on the augmented reality screen of the central console are also displayed in the head -up display. It is very distracting and I was forced, as a driver, to focus only on these arrows. Everything else had disappeared, and I found it disconcerting to say the least. It would be preferable that the navigation indications are in the head -up display without these bright blue digital arrows (which move and change size when you get closer or move away from the area to which they direct you. ))

Comfort and class

The third row of the EQS is only to be used. My size of 5’2 “adapts very well, but all those who exceed my size have found the place rather unlivable and, honestly, it is not designed for adults. The entry and exit from the third row is still easily carried out thanks to a button located on the seats of the second row.

When the third row is noted, the loading space is still appreciable, and when it is lowered, it is gigantic. Of course, as is the case with the other Mercedes EQ vehicles, there is no trunk at the front, but a high performance hepa filter designed to keep the cabin free from pollutants, whatever the outdoor air quality.

From the outside, the EQS SUV is extremely attractive. Although it is not excessively angular or even muscular, it gives off a refined elegance that attracts attention. Add the three -dimensional pattern grille to that and you get a breathtaking look. With a host of new bodywork colors, the EQS SUV is on the road, all in silence!

Environmentally friendly power

Of course, the main questions and concerns concerning experiences relate to power and autonomy. The German utility is doing very well in these respects.

This utility has also demonstrated certain aptitudes of driving on the trail. Thanks to the four directional wheels (just like the sedan), this utility is not only handy, but also very efficient on rugged surface thanks to the standard 4Matic of standard transmission which is responsible for sending the power to the right wheel if it detects a lack of grip.

Among the other characteristics, let us quote the panoramic camera, as well as the sloping descent control and the possibility of raising the height of the suspension to protect the bowels of the EQS.

A very competitive player

After spending a lot of time with the EQS, it is clear to us that this is a new reference in the entirely electric utility segment. It will be difficult to compete with such a complete and efficient vehicle, which not only checks all the boxes in terms of luxury, but also those of autonomy and performance.

It may have taken the manufacturers a little time to get to where we are today in terms of electrification and electric vehicles, but the wait was worth it.
