If you lack storage space under iOS 17 or iPados 17 or subsequent version, you can access the recommended section for you in iCloud settings, then check if you can delete photos, bulky files or backups from which you ” Need.
- Access Settings> [your name]> iCloud.
- Touch recommended for you, then touch one of the options below and follow the instructions on the screen:
- Touch Consult backups to identify and delete the backups of devices that you no longer use.

Reduction of the size of your iCloud backup
Many apps are automatically saved on iCloud after installation. You can reduce the size of your iCloud backup and release space in iCloud by interrupting the backup of the apps that you do not use or deleting old iCloud backups.
Choose the apps of your iPhone or iPad to include in the backup
- Access Settings> [your name]> iCloud.
- Touch Manage the account storage space or manage storage, then backup.
- Tap the name of the device you use.
- Disable the apps whose data you do not want to save.
- Choose Disable and erase.
Confirmation of this choice deactivates the iCloud ICLOUD backup in question and deletes all the associated data of iCloud.
Some apps are always saved, and their backup cannot be deactivated.
Delete backups and deactivate iCloud backup on your device
You can delete old iCloud backups for the device you are currently using or old devices that you no longer use. ICloud backups remain available for a period of 180 days after deactivating the iCloud backup function or stopping its use. Backups in use for the recovery of a device cannot be deleted.
iPhone or iPad
- Access Settings> [your name], then touch iCloud.
- Touch Manage the account storage space or manage storage, then backup.
- Tap the name of the device you want to delete backup.
- Touche Erase the backup> Disable and erase.
Deleting a backup also deactivates the iCloud backup of your iPhone or iPad. You can reactivate iCloud backup in the iCloud settings of your device.
Mac computers
- Choose the Apple menu > System or apple settings > System preferences.
- Click on Apple identifier, then on iCloud.
- Click Manage and select Backups.
- Select one of the backups, then click on – to delete it. To deactivate the backup and delete all backups of this device on iCloud, choose delete when you are invited to confirm your choice.
Deleting a backup also deactivates your device’s iCloud backup. You can reactivate iCloud backup in the iCloud settings of your device.
Windows PC
- Open iCloud for Windows.
- Click on storage.
- Select Backup.
- Select one of the backups, then click Delete. To deactivate the backup and delete all backups of this device on iCloud, choose delete when you are invited to confirm your choice.
Deleting a backup also deactivates your device’s iCloud backup. You can reactivate iCloud backup in the iCloud settings of your device.
Deletion of photos in iCloud photos
The iCloud photo library keeps your photos and videos up to date on all your devices using your iCloud storage. You can free up space in iCloud when you delete photos and videos you no longer need the photo app on one of your devices.
Before deleting anything, make sure you have saved the photos and videos you want to keep. If you use iCloud photos and delete a photo or video on a device, it is also deleted from all the other devices on which you are connected using the same Apple identifier.
Follow the instructions below to delete photos and videos from your iCloud photo library. If you don’t use iCloud photos, you can delete photos from your film instead.
If you are part of an iCloud shared photo library, the photos added to this photo library are only recognized in the storage space of the person who created the shared photo library. To delete elements counted in your iCloud storage space, make sure you consult your personal library.
iPhone or iPad
- Open the photo app, then touch library at the bottom of your screen.
- Touch all the photos.
- Touch Select, then choose the photos and videos to delete.
- Tap the delete button, then delete the photo.
If you don’t use iCloud photos
If you do not use the iCloud photo library, your film is integrated into your iCloud backup. To consult the storage space used in iCloud backup:
- Access Settings> [your name], then touch iCloud.
- Touch Manage the account storage space or manage storage, then backup.
- Tap the name of the device you use, then consult the storage space used for photos.
To reduce the size of your photo library backup, save your photos and videos on your computer, and then make a manual backup of your device data. If you want to keep your photos and videos on your device, you can deactivate photos backup or go to iCloud+ to get more storage space. You can also delete all the photos you no longer want to keep:
- Open photos.
- Select the item you want to delete.
- Tap the delete button, then delete the photo.
Mac computers
- Open the Photos App.
- Select the photos and videos to delete.
- Press the keyboard deletion key, click by holding the control key stuck, or right -click and choose delete (#) photos. Then click delete to confirm.
iCloud.com
- On your iPhone, iPad or computer, log into the iCloud site.com.
- Select the photo app.
- Choose photos or videos to delete.
- To select several photos or videos, touch select under iOS or iPados, or press the control key on a Mac or the control key on a PC and hold it down while you select the items.
- To select everything, press the control keys + A under macOS or on the control keys + a under Windows, or touch everything select everything under iOS or iPados.
- Touch the delete button, then delete.
Deleted photos and videos can be restored from the album deleted recently for 30 days. To delete the contents of this album faster, touch Select, then select the items to be deleted. Touch Delete> Delete. If you exceed your iCloud storage limit, the photos and videos you have deleted are immediately erased and can no longer be restored from the album deleted recently.
Deletion of folders or files in iCloud Drive
You can manage and delete folders or files that you store in iCloud Drive from your iPhone, iPad, Mac or PC. The shared files of other people to whom you have access are not counted in your iCloud storage space.
iphone
- Go to the file apps and touch Explorer.
- Under locations, touch iCloud Drive.
- Touch the button more , Then select.
- Choose the file or folder you want to delete.
- To delete the iCloud Drive file and all your devices, touch the delete button . You can access it in the recent deletions folder for 30 days.
ipad
- Access the Files app and open the sidebar.
- Under locations, touch iCloud Drive.
- Touch Select, then choose the file or folder you want to delete.
- To delete the iCloud Drive file and all your devices, touch delete. You can access it in the recent deletions folder for 30 days.
Mac computers
- Open the Finder and access the iCloud Drive folder.
- Slide an item in the basket or move it to another backrest in your Mac. If you place it in the basket, you can access it in recent deletions for 30 days.
Windows PC
On a PC with iCloud for Windows, you can manage your iCloud Drive files in the Windows explorer. You can pin a file or a folder in the Windows explorer, or follow this procedure to add an iCloud Drive folder to the Windows explorer and delete it from iCloud Drive:
- Download and install iCloud for Windows.
- Connect using your Apple identifier.
- Activate iCloud Drive.
- Go to the iCloud Drive file.
- Select the folders or files to delete.
- Click delete. You can access it in the recent deletions folder for 30 days.
iCloud.com
- Connect to the iCloud address.com.
- Touch the iCloud Drive app.
- Select the files you want to delete, then touch the delete button . You can access it in recently deleted for 30 days.
Deletion of SMS and attachments in Messages
When you activate messages on iCloud, all your SMS and the attachments you send and receive use your iCloud storage space. You can free up space by deleting SMS and attachments (photos, videos and files) that you no longer need.
Delete a message or attachment on your iPhone or iPad
- In a conversation, touch the attachment or bubble of the message you want to delete.
- Tap more.
- Tap the delete button, then delete the message. To delete all messages from a conversation, touch everything delete in the upper left corner of the screen. Then touch the conversation delete.
Delete several attachments from contact or conversation
- In an SMS conversation, touch the name of the contact at the top of the screen.
- In the Photos section, touch all.
- Touch Select, then touch the images to be deleted.
- Touch delete, then delete the attachment to confirm.
Delete a whole conversation
- Make a scan to the left on the conversation you want to delete.
- Tap delete.
- Touch again to confirm to confirm.
Delete a message or attachment on your Mac
- Open a conversation.
- Click on the empty area of a message bubble you want to delete, while keeping the control key pressed.
- Select Delete.
- Click delete to confirm your choice.
Delete several attachments from contact or conversation
- Open a conversation.
- Click on the information button .
- Scroll the screen to the photos section.
- Click on an attachment, then press the control key and hold it down to select several attachments.
- Click while pressing the control key or right -click, then choose delete.
- Click delete the attachment to confirm your choice.
Delete a whole conversation
- Click on a conversation while holding the control key pressed.
- Choose Delete or delete conversation.
- Click delete to confirm your choice.
Deletion of messages and mail management
You can free up iCloud space by deleting emails from your iCloud messaging account. You can also move emails from your iPhone or iPad to your Mac or PC, so they no longer occupy space in your iCloud storage.
Follow the procedure below to delete messages from your account. Messages with bulky attachments require more space than those with only text.
iPhone or iPad
If your iPhone or iPad is configured to access your iCloud messaging, you can delete messages from any mailbox, then empty the basket to free up space:
- Make a scan to the left on a message to delete it.
- Access your mailboxes, then choose the basket folder.
- To delete messages one by one, sweep to the left on each message. To delete everything, touch modify, select everything, delete. Confirm by touching everything.
Windows Mac or PC
If you use iCloud mail with an office messaging app, such as email on your Mac or Microsoft Outlook on your PC, follow these instructions:
- Mail on your Mac: Delete the messages you do not want to keep, choose mailbox> Erase deleted items, then select your iCloud messaging account in the menu. Then click erase to confirm.
- Microsoft Outlook 2010 at Outlook 2016 (Windows): Delete messages you don’t want to keep. The latter are definitively erased during the next opening of the app.
iCloud.com
- Connect to the iCloud address.com.
- Select Mail, then choose the Corbeille folder.
- To delete messages one by one, select the message concerned, then select the Corbeille button . To delete several messages simultaneously, select the messages concerned, then delete.
Deletion of vocal memos
When you activate Dictaphone on iCloud, your vocal memos are saved on iCloud. You can easily delete them if you lack space.
iPhone or iPad
- Touch Modify, then select the vocal memos you want to delete.
- Tap the delete button .
- Open recent deletions, then touch Change.
- Touch everything delete, or select vocal memos, then delete.
Mac computers
- Select the vocal memos you want to delete.
- Click the Delete button .
- Open recent deletions, then click delete or delete.
- Click delete permanently to confirm.
