In the United States, the American Data Analysis Company J.D. Power makes a vehicle reliability barometer each year. In general, it is the Japanese who truse the podium, Toyota and Lexus in mind. But this year, surprise: Kia went first, followed closely by Hyundai, which belongs to the same group.
Kia and Hyundai at the top of the basket
The survey is based on the number of problems indicated by 100 owners of a model in the last 12 months of using their 3 -year -old vehicle. Thus, customers ranked Kia in front of all other generalist and premium brands, With a PP100 score (problems for 100 vehicles) of 145, or 47 points less than the average of the sector. Buick is second with 147, followed closely by Hyundai, with 148 on the PP100 index. In fourth position, we find Genesis (155 pp100), which therefore represents the most reliable premium brand. Toyota and Lexus only arrive in fifth and sixth positions, with 158 and 159.
Land Rover finishes last in this ranking of 31 brands. Volvo, previously at the top of the basket, is also found at the end of the ranking, surrounded by Alfa Romeo and Ram. More surprising, Tesla is absent from the classification due to the size of the too low sample according to the study note.
New criteria
For this 33rd edition, J.D. Power has reviewed his methodology with new criteria. This partly explains the upset classification this year. Now the survey is also interested in driving and infotainment aid systems, In addition to the other seven other criteria: air conditioning, driving experience, bodywork, characteristics/control/display, interior, motorcycle group and seats. So, J.D. Power examined customer experiences after three years, checking for example if updates have been performed. According to the study, more than half of the vehicles are affected by multimedia system problems.
