Fiber connection: what is its price and how it goes
Before arriving in accommodation, it is necessary that the fiber optics arrives in your city. To do this, you must install a connection knot (NRO) which will make the junction between the national fiber optic network and that of your municipality. Then, you have to install the fiber in the neighborhoods. This requires the installation of an area mutualization point (PMZ or PM) in order to be able to connect the different buildings and other dwellings. Then, finally comes the time to install optical connection points (PBO).
Is the fiber paid at Orange ?
Orange currently offers two different offers to make you benefit from home fiber at home. € 22.99/month for 1 year then € 41.99/month. Descending and ascending flow: 500Mbit/s. Up to 140 TV channels included with the 4K Ultra HD decoder (on request).
Which pays the installation of the orange fiber ?
An apartment fiber installation is fully supported by the operator himself. If your accommodation already has an optical fiber socket but you want to move it for personal reasons, your operator can charge you for € 60.
Is the optical fiber free ?
Fiber connection, normally, is free !
If some operators mention connection costs in their price brochure, in particular SFR and Bouygues, in practice, these costs are now offered by all operators.
What are the advantages of fiber at Orange ?
The use of optical fiber allows the development of new applications. In the professional field, this technology can allow telemedicine to deploy. The advantage of optical fiber is to offer very high-speed symmetrical flow, that is to say an equal speed in emission and in reception.
Why my orange bill is increasing every month ?
According to Orange, it is justified by the data envelope which accompanies its mobile packages. For example, the Open 10 GB package evolves in 40 GB package, or 30 GB of additional mobile data. In this specific case, € 2 are added to the customer’s invoice from March 5, and the following months without action from him.

What is fiber connection ?
We sometimes make confusion. Because, often, when we talk about fiber optical connection, we actually talk about the deployment of the fiber. But, after all, it’s normal. Because, before your home is connected to the fiber, it is necessary to deploy a fiber network. So how is fiber connection going ? Let’s start with the deployment of fiber, to which we have also devoted a subject. But, to understand well, a little reminder is essential.
When it comes to a building, the PBO is placed within the building, often where there are electrical installations. Otherwise, it is positioned in the street, often where the electrical network or the copper network passes (ADSL/VDSL). Depending on the circumstances, the PBO is installed in an underground room, on a landing, on the front, or in aerial on a pole.
There remains one last step: the final connection between your accommodation and the fiber optic network of your town.
How is the final connection to the fiber ?
The final connection to the fiber is the last step in the deployment of the fiber, namely the Connection of your accommodation to the fiber network of your municipality. In order for it to take place, you must be eligible for fiber, that is to say that it is available at your address, and that you have taken out a fiber offer. A technician, sent by your Internet access provider, then travels to your home to proceed to the final connection and the installation of the fiber optics in your accommodation.
The final connection to the fiber, this consists of Pull an optical fiber cable from the optical connection point, to which it is welded, to your home. There are two possibilities: underground connection and and air connection, using already existing infrastructure as possible.
- THE underground connection : The technician uses a needle to pull an optical fiber optic cable to the point of penetration point at the entrance to the accommodation, passing through the chutes and the holes.
- THE air connection : The technician recovers the optical connection point located on a telecommunications pole to come and pull the fiber optics to the gable of the house and to the penetration point inside the accommodation, passing through the posts.
The process is then the same. At the point of penetration at the entrance to the accommodation, the technician installs a small case to which he weld the fiber optic cable. Then, to ensure the junction, he weld this same cable to the point of optical connection. Then the technician installs a Optical termination point (PTO), where you wish but generally where you connect your box, and draw an optical fiber cable between the two boxes.
Then remains one last thing to do for the technician: Connect the fiber of your accommodation to the optical coupler reserved for your Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom or Free operator.
Is the fiber optical connection free or paying ?
To install fiber optics at home or connect your accommodation to fiber, you must subscribe to a fiber offer. But before changing your ADSL box for a fiber box, it is important to know that this change in technology can cause connection costs. Then, who pays the work ?
Connection costs are supported by operators for apartments and buildings. We are talking about vertical deployment made by a building operator. The Internet access provider you have chosen then freely connects your apartment.
Namely: if your neighborhood is connected to the fiber optic network and your building is not yet fiber, you must contact the condominium trustee in order to obtain the voting of the connection to the fiber during the general meeting of co -owners.
On the other hand, if you live in a detached house and the fiber passes in your street, the costs of connecting your accommodation are your responsibility unless the operator offers you your connection to the fiber optic network. But, even when it is paid, it is sometimes possible to negotiate the connection costs with its operator.
You must know that The price of the fiber installation for a house varies depending on the type of connection (air or underground) and according to the operator. For information, the connection of an individual fiber house is to connect your home to the connection point present on the public highway.
“Connection” costs or “installation” costs ?
Please note, fiber connection costs should not be confused with the installation costs of your fiber box. Some Internet service providers optionally offer serviceshome installation of your box and equipment. Concretely, with this type of service, the technician is responsible for configuring your various equipment to the Internet (tablet, computer, smartphone, etc.) but also your TV services or your mailbox. It is therefore not the fiber connection to your accommodation.
The price of the fiber connection by access provider
If you live in an individual house, depending on the operators present in your area, it is necessary to compare the fiber connection prices before subscribing to an offer.
Included up to 100 m of cable
( +25 € between 100 and 150 m, +75 € beyond 150m)
The cost of installing orange fiber
In the event of eligibility for the very high speed network of the historic operator, the connection to orange fiber from the street to your apartment or your individual house as well as the installation of the fiber socket are included in your Livebox offer Fiber. And what is an underground or aerial connection.
Note however: Orange specifies in its general conditions of subscription that “in some cases, (..) an underground adduction in the private domain may be necessary. In this case, it is up to the customer to make this adduction available to Orange so that it is usable “. Translation: work may be necessary on your property in order to allow the path of fiber between the optical connection point (PBO), out of your property, and the optical termination point, in your accommodation. These works must be carried out at your expense.
Recall that Orange offers three Livebox Optical Livebox offers: the Livebox, the Livebox Up and the Livebox Max. Each of them is offered with a tative on promo the first year.
The price of the SFR fiber connection
How much SFR fiber connection costs cost ? If the accommodation is already connected, there is no fees. For buildings or dwellings of more than 4 dwellings, SFR fiber connection costs are € 60. The prices of the SFR connection are higher for housing of less than 4 dwellings: 149 euros for the underground connection to the fiber of a single house and 299 euros in the event of aerial connection. Furthermore, if it is necessary to place chutes to hide the path of the fiber partly private, the operator charges each linear meter 14.40 euros each linear meter.
With the SFR operator, you have the choice between three fiber internet subscriptions: SFR Starter, SFR Power and SFR Premium. SFR Box Fiber offers are also available at a reduced price in the first year of subscription.
The connection rate at Free
You are eligible for fiber at Free ? Good news, free fiber connection is free in apartment as in individual houses. At this Internet access provider, you have the choice between three freebox fiber: revolution, pop and delta, with a promotional offer in the first year. Note that at Free, the fiber is at the same price as the ADSL.
How much is the connection to the Bouygues Telecom fiber ?
How much the connection costs cost if you are eligible for Bouygues fiber ? Bouygues fiber connection is free for a detached house. Please note, in order not to pay for connection costs, your connection must not require more than 100 meters of cable. Beyond that, you pay for 25 euros fiber connection costs up to 50 meters of additional cable, and up to € 75 if it takes more than 150 meters of wiring.
The operator also specifies that “If the installation requires an investment greater than the cumulative amount of 3 months of subscription for fixed services or that the installation requires a specific technical intervention, we will not install and we will terminate the contract”. At Bouygues Telecom, you have the choice between three Bbox Fiber subscriptions: the Bbox Fit, the Bbox Must and the Bbox Ultym. Like the other three operators, Bouygues Telecom markets its fiber offers with a price on promo valid for a year.
