iPhone 12: Pro models have more RAM than others

The iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max do not have the only differences with the iPhone 12 and 12 mini their lidar and their telephoto lens. They are also better equipped with RAM ! XCODE 12 Beta 12.1 contains RAM endowments of new smartphones: 6 GB for pro models, 4 GB for the other two. The 2019 cuvée was satisfied with 4 GB, pro models as standard.

With these 2 GB of RAM in addition, the iPhone 12 Pro should be even more comfortable to quietly descend the heaviest tasks. Macrumors, Who reports the information, also gives a link to the geekbench bench of an iPhone13.3 under iOS 14.1 (in other words, an iPhone 12 pro). It confirms the presence of 6 GB of RAM, but also indicates results quite disappointing compared to that seen at the beginning of the month for the iPad Air 4 which integrates the same A14 chip.

If the Mono-Coeur test of the iPhone 12 Pro is equivalent to that of the iPad Air (1,590 against 1,583), on the other hand the multi-hearting result is a notch or two below (3,120 against 4,198 )). Apart from the fact that it can be a bogon bench, this test could also be performed just after the initial configuration, a fairly greedy process before things stabilize.

Obviously it’s a bogus bench ..
The iPhone 11 Pro was 3288 in multicore, then the iPhone 12 Pro ..

Not necessarily, it sticks with the fact that the iPad Air can let the Soc in multicore heated a little more.

We are waiting, we will surely be bench in the coming days

avatar

Raoolito | 11/14/2020 at 7:30 p.m

If it is not bogus, it is that the A14 of the iPad is no longer the A14 of the iPhone.

Domi75 | 10/15/2020 at 09:42

What is the difference ?

avatar

Slizz | 11/14/2020 at 7:31 pm

So camera, Lidar and Ram. It’s going to go to the iPhone 12

avatar

Charlesl15 | 11/14/2020 at 8:31 PM

And screen a brighter hair! But I admit that there are no big differences..

DRSTAX | 14/10/2020 at 7:32 PM

A clamping is likely to keep a correct autonomy for their sacro sainte 5g.

avatar

David Finder | 11/14/2020 at 7:58 PM

You can deactivate 5G, just as you can deactivate 4G on current models.

When I have my 12 pro max, this is one of the things I am going to do. I don’t need 5g. Autonomy will only be better.

avatar

Michaeel | 11/14/2020 at 8:03 PM

Apple already takes care of this a priori (cut 5g and only activate it when it is useful).

avatar

Taxtax | 11/14/2020 at 8:45 p.m

Bof, you might as well do it manually to be sure that it does not activate Mas when it does not need because of an iOS bug or other joyfulness of a model just launched in beta tests in early adopters.

avatar

Michaeel | 11/14/2020 at 8:47 PM

Yeah after there who pays an apple product precisely for this kind of stuff. I find it amazing to try to redo everything by hand, I have the impression that it is Android logic. But why not. You just have to hope that Apple allows you to cut 5G, they are able to say “let we take care”.

avatar

David Finder | 10/15/2020 at 05:53

5G is not yet active, and when it is, it will be far from being the panacea everywhere, some may want to deactivate it manually.
In addition, the iPhone Switch already between 4G and 3G if necessary, but no can still deactivate what we don’t want. I don’t see why it wouldn’t be the same with 5G.

And nothing to do with Android.

Boboss29 | 11/14/2020 at 11:27 PM

The easiest way would not take a 5g package suddenly.

avatar

David Finder | 10/15/2020 at 05:50:

Quite. I do not intend to change the package anyway. But I admit that I hadn’t thought about it

Fortunately there is that because otherwise between the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 pro the only difference is the telephoto lens.
This year they did not leave great things to the pro models. Unless you need the telephoto lens you would have to be crazy to take an iPhone 12 pro.

avatar

DRSTAX | 11/14/2020 at 7:52 pm

The finishes, colors and materials also fall into the balance for the pro which is still more classy than the 12. But is it really worth 200 euros more. Luxury question I would say for those who can afford it.

“This year they did not leave great things to the pro models. Unless you need the telephoto lens you would have to be crazy to take an iPhone 12 pro.””

Well no, there are also the exclusive colors of pro models !

Koko256 | 11/14/2020 at 8:09 PM

If we count the iPod touch there are two left, approaching the black and the blue of the non -pro

@koko256
“If we count the iPod touch there are two left, approaching the black and the blue of the non -pro ”
Fail, the blue of the iPhone 12 that I will buy in renewal of an iPhone 8+, is much prettier ..

avatar

Koko256 | 11/14/2020 at 8:18:18 PM

The blue or the blue of the blade ?

avatar

Icewizard | 11/14/2020 at 8:37 PM

“The blue of the pro or the blue of the blade ? »»

The blue of the blade ??
If I planned to buy an iPhone 12 pro, I would have written “iPhone 12 pro” and not iPhone 12 ..

avatar

Koko256 | 11/14/2020 at 21:23

So I agree. The Blue of Pro is more hostile than the blue of the blade. (I say blade to please those who will learn a pro because it saddens them if we say that the pro we do not see the interest)

avatar

GEO44270 | 11/14/2020 at 7:58 PM

Ultra wide angle, Lidar, Ram, brighter screen, larger sensor and different stabilization and different telephoto lens on the max, steel chassis. It makes some differences anyway.
Does that justify the price difference? Everyone to see but it’s not just the color the 3rd sensor

avatar

Ricobtz | 11/14/2020 at 8:11 PM

It’s clear. If we like the photo the pro is very nice

avatar

Fousfous | 11/14/2020 at 8:29 PM

Ultra wide angle is the same on all iPhone. And then I just talked about the iPhone 12 vs. 12 pro.
So there is the lidar, the telephoto, the barely brighter screen which will not notice (well yes we have a logarithmic perception) and the colors.
Before there was the screen which was much better, the pro was also finer and with better autonomy. 100 € difference it would have been justified, not € 200.

avatar

GEO44270 | 11/14/2020 at 8:38 PM

In time for me it is the telephoto the 3rd step the wide angle.
The brighter screen we won’t notice it but outside the sun can make the difference in readability.
For the rest it is a question of need/budget.
This is difference in parts of parts and associated R&D (even if the difference is important) must be calculated by large heads.
Clearly if the gap is too expensive for what it brings is that we don’t really need to take a pro.
Personally I would take a professional pro because I want a big. If the 12 existed in max I may have thought about.

avatar

Fousfous | 11/14/2020 at 8:46 PM

I will also take the 12 pro max so the problem of the normal 12 pro don’t touch me. But by seeing the weak differences it shocked me (and I reacted when I saw that it was the same case, so that the pro had no finer nor finer borders).

avatar

Jean_claude_duss | 11/14/2020 at 10:16 PM

12 Pro also has the possibility of managing 512 GB

avatar

Fousfous | 11/14/2020 at 10:20 p.m

You have to need it.

avatar

Lolo43D | 11/14/2020 at 8:42 PM

To summarize, the contributions of the pro compared to the 12 “classic” are:
– Telephoto 52mm,
– Double stabilization,
– HDR Dolby Vision video at 60FPS. 30fps maximum on 12,
– 6GB of ram against 4GB,
– 800 nits against 625,
– steel chassis. Aluminum on the 12,
– scanner lidar.

So I fully agree with you. This year, for someone who is not passionate about photos and videos, the 200 € difference are not justifiable.

Unlike last year when you said the very pleasant chassis trio / OLED / ZOOM X2 screen justified the investment.

avatar

Fousfous | 14/10/2020 at 8:48 PM

A range that spread from € 100 in 100 € by culminating at $ 999 it would have been good, however and it would have had logic related to the low difference between 12 and 12 pro.

avatar

Spark | 11/14/2020 at 20:56

Especially since the Apple Care is also more expensive with the pro. 169 € vs 229 €.

avatar

Kaserskin | 11/14/2020 at 21:36

You all forget the difference in storage space, not at all negligible. 64GB too fair for many so taking 128GB on the iPhone 12 The gap is even more reduced

avatar

Lolo43D | 11/14/2020 at 21:40

I added afterwards the difference in RAM but it is completely forgotten the storage.
We will manage to have a very complete list of differences !

(In any case, being passionate about photos, it’s the 12 pro for me. The argument of the optical zoom x2 is enough by itself)

avatar

PierreBondurant | 11/14/2020 at 10:42 PM

You don’t have the X2 optical zoom on the iPhone 12?

avatar

Lolo43D | 11/14/2020 at 11:24 PM

And no, no X2 optical zoom on the “classic” iPhone 12 unlike the pro.

Just a digital zoom to X5 (x10 on the pro, x12 on the pro max) but which very strongly degrades the quality of the photos.

Visualization on a TV or the impression for an album shows digital defects.
It is certain that if habits are consultation on the smartphone or posts on social networks, it is not embarrassing. It all depends on uses.

For me who am passionate about photography, the absence of X2 optical zoom on the “classic” is prohibitive.

avatar

PierreBondurant | 11/14/2020 at 11:31 PM

Ah yes it’s deceit, it’s written “2x optical zoom out” !
Zoom out is not zoom in.
There remains the possibility of cropping under pixelmator

avatar

Lolo43D | 11/14/2020 at 11:36 PM

However, the 12MP quickly limits cropping.

Besides, readers explain what is “the amplitude of the optical zoom” X4 on the 11 pro / 12 pro and X5 on the 12 pro max (as described in the characteristics) ?

Because indeed, either the zoom is optical with the 3 sensors present on the back, or digital by computer processing.

avatar

PierreBondurant | 11/14/2020 at 11:40 PM

It’s not wrong, when you refer too much, it can be seen fairly quickly
I have an X2 optical zoom on my iPhone 8+ and I use it often, it is really cheap that it is not on the 12 since it costs what my 8+ cost at the time.

avatar

Lolo43D | 11/14/2020 at 11:48 PM

I understand, we quickly get into the habit.
Afterwards, if you come from an 8+, you will also have the OLED, the design, the stereo, the audio quality, the chip and ram, faceid.

It’s up to you to see if the price difference justifies the differences between 12 and 12 pro. See my comment from 20:42 .

Apparently and during my readings, the X2 digital zoom is suitable for many users who are, without criticizing, less looking at the quality of the photos. To see according to each.

iPhone 12: 6 GB of RAM, a first for an iPhone

iphone 12 pro blue

In the beta version of the XCODE 12 development software 12.1 For Mac, Macrumors discovered an interesting detail about new iPhone 12. Indeed, the “fold” files of the new Apple smartphone models reveal the amount of memory integrated respectively in each of them.

iPhone 12 Pro and Ram

So, for the iPhone 12 and for the iPhone 12 Mini, it is necessary to count 4 GB of RAM. For the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, It’s two more or 6 GB. First geekbench tests would show identical figures and therefore support the discovery made by our colleagues from MacRumors.

The iPhone 12 Pro then establish a new RAM record for an iPhone, so far, Never has an Apple smartphone joined 6 GB of RAM. The iPhone 11, 11 pro, 11 pro max, just like the iPhone XS and XS Max integrate only 4. The iPhone 12 and 12 Mini therefore wedge on this quantity.

On iPad, on the other hand, the 6 GBs are already on the pro models of 2020, 11 and 12.9 inches.

Recall that the iPhone 12 pro and 12 pro max, in addition to additional 2 GB, also offer photo improvements compared to 12 and 12 mini models, as well as a LIDAR sensor and larger storage capacities. The iPhone 12 and 12 pro can be pre -ordered Tomorrow from 2 p.m. They will be delivered and available in stores from next Friday October 23.

iPhone 12 pro 128 GB at the best price basic price: € 1,159

For 12 mini and 12 pro max models, we will have to be a little more patient. The latter will be available for pre -order from November 6, for deliveries and availability in store 7 days later.

Notice to potential iPhone 12/12 pro buyers, these 2 GB of RAM could push you to go to the checkout ? Or is it an unimportant detail for your purchasing decision ?
