Autonomy: the iPhone 11 pro is much better than the iPhone 12 pro

IPhone autonomy test 12/12 PRO VS 11/11 PRO (Video)

Apple remains very elusive on the autonomy of its iPhone, both during the keynote and on its website. For new iPhone 12 and 12 pro, available since last Friday (see here where to find them at the best price), we were able to find ourselves in the technical sheets provided by the Cupertino firm, slightly different autonomy durations compared to iPhone 11 and 11 pro.

The Californian indeed announces on this subject an iPhone 12 more autonomous one hour in video streaming compared to the iPhone 11. For other activities such as video reading and audio reading, the Cupertino firm does not mention a difference with the previous generation model.

For the iPhone 12 pro, on paper, it takes an hour of less autonomy in video reading compared to the iPhone 11 Pro, and identical times in video streaming and audio reading.

But all this remains only theoretical values. What about in practice ? This is what the Youtubeur MRWHOSETHEBOSS wanted to measure. The latter in his experience compared 7 iPhone models, including the last 12 and 12 pro, but also the 11 and 11 pro from last year.

Obviously, he made sure that the iPhone was all set in the same way, in brightness, with a 100 % health battery and the same system parameters. And to empty the battery, he carried out the same series of actions on each iOS device. Here is without further delay the classification obtained:

• iPhone 11 pro max: 8 hours 29 minutes
• iPhone 11 pro: 7 hours 36 minutes
• iPhone 12: 6 hours 41 minutes
• iPhone 12 pro: 6 hours 35 minutes
• iPhone 11: 5 hours 8 minutes
• iPhone XR: 4 hours 31 minutes
• iPhone SE (2020): 3 hours 59 minutes

We then realize that the iPhone 11 is almost an hour less than the iPhone 12, which is close to what Apple announces. The iPhone 12 Pro is one hour less than the iPhone 11 Pro, this is also what Apple indicates on its website.

Still, it is surprising to see one of the two new models do better than its predecessor, and the other of the two new models do less well. If the passage from LCD to the OLED can explain the improvement in autonomy of the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 12, for the iPhone 12 Pro, it is actually necessary to see on the side of the battery component itself in itself. Indeed, the first dismantages highlighted the presence in the box of a 2,815 mAh battery, 295 mAh less than the iPhone 11 pro. This may explain the loss of autonomy for the new model compared to the old. Even if we could have expected new components of the iPhone 12 Pro, including the A14 Bionic chip, better efficiency in terms of energy management. Too bad … let’s hope for the iPhone 13 at best !
