Audi Q6 e Tron

A platform that changes everything

A platform that changes the whole Audi Q6 e-tron will be the first car based on the new technological platform called Premium Platform Electric (PPE), already used for several concept cars and with a 800 volts system. The result ? A typically Audi design SUV, powered by powerful and effective electric motors. To make the most of its autonomy of almost 600 km, you can count on a management system for battery and innovative charging, carried by a completely unprecedented electronic architecture. In summary, the Audi Q6 e-tron opens the next major chapter for the electrification and digitalization of the Audi range.

Smart lighting. and alive

Intelligent lighting. And alive you won’t believe your eyes. If the headlights and rear lights of the Audi Q6 e-tron seem alive at first glance, it is because they are animated by the active light signature. A world premiere proposed by Audi. With it, Audi lighting inaugurates a new era characterized not only by a distinctive design, but also by an ever more extensive functionality radius. A feat made possible thanks to the development of the second generation of OLED DIGITALS headlights. At the front as at the rear, the light signatures of the headlights can be personalized – eight versions are offered – in order to better see the road and prevent other users of any type. A real advance for road safety. Discover this innovation

Audi Q6 e-tron and SQ6 e-tron 2025: already driving prototypes!

Audi Q6 e-tron prototype 2025

Faroe Islands, Denmark – Audi plans to launch 20 new models by 2025, more than half of which will be electric. From this group, the Q6 e-tron SUV appears as one of the three most important models for the near future of the German brand. This electric SUV, elaborated on PPE architecture (Premium Platform Electric) developed jointly with Porsche, is in the final test phase. Its world premiere will not take place until later in 2023. However, The Auto Guide was able to take the wheel of camouflaged prototypes on the roads of the Faroese Islands in Denmark for a test in “Avant-Avant-Première”.

The modular architecture PPE will be used to build a whole series of models at Audi and Porsche, the Q6 e-tron and the Macan EV being the first two standard models by being from. This architecture poses a new milestone in the transition to the electric mobility of the German brand, which started with the SUV e-tron quattro 2019, it today adopts the designation Q8 e-tron. Since that time, the manufacturer of Ingolstadt has developed the E-tron GT electric sport sedan on the J1 architecture, shared with the Porsche Taycan. More recently, the MEB platform served as a basis for Q4 e-tron, as well as at the I.D. 4 of Volkswagen. It is therefore by optimizing the synergy between the various brands that the Volkswagen group makes significant advances in electric mobility. In the case of Q6, Audi will launch two versions, ie the Q6 55 e-tron and the SQ6 e-tron with a more sporty vocation. Both will be offered in a VU and Sportback configuration with a fleeting roof line backwards.

And autonomy?

With the PPE platform, the Q6 e-tron has a total capacity of 100 kWh, more than 95 kWh of which can be used, and an electrical architecture of 800 volts authorizing fast current recharge High Speed. As standard, the Q6 e-tron can load up to 150 kW of power, but it will also be possible to opt for a 270 kW recharge. This level of power will add 250 kilometers of autonomy in 10 minutes according to Audi.

The autonomy is announced more than 600 kilometers for the Q6 55 e-tron and more than 500 kilometers for the SQ6 E-Tron, these values being established according to the WLTP standard (World Light-Vehicle Test Procedure) which is very optimistic. We can therefore expect the Q6 55 e-tron to be able to offer real autonomy varying between 470 and 500 kilometers in ideal conditions of use. These values should be 370 to 400 kilometers for the SQ6 e-tron. During our brief test of two prototypes, our energy consumption was around 22.3 kWh per 100 kilometers with the Q6 55 e-tron, and 23.7 with the SQ6 e-tron.

Silent power

True to the philosophy of the brand, the Q6 has two electric motors to make it a full -controlled VUV with electronic control. For the Q6 55 e-tron, the power and torque values are 395 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. In the case of the SQ6 e-tron, we speak of 510 horsepower of 605 lb-ft. The chronos from 0 to 100 km/h are established at 6 seconds for the Q6 55 and 4.5 seconds for the SQ6. The electric motors developed for the PPE architecture are also quieter, the engineers having paid particular attention to their soundproofing. In addition, these engines are lubricated with oil to optimize performance and efficiency, this oil also used to ensure their cooling.

Heavy but agile

The serial models of the Q6 55 e-tron will receive rims whose diameter varies between 18 and 21 inches, while the SQ6 E-Ton will drive on 20 or 21-inch rims. During our tests, the prototypes which we took the wheel were equipped with the adaptive pneumatic suspension and 21 -inch rims. On perfectly smooth roads, the Q6 and SQ6 proved to be comfortable and above all, very silent.

The chassis of the two variants is very rigid and the new geometry of the front axle is particularly effective at the start of the turn, authorizing a very precise guidance. The acceleration of Q6 55 is toned, and that of the SQ6 is even more so. Unlike the SQ8 E -Tron -with three engines, one for the front axle and one for each of the two rear wheels -, the SQ6 e -tron is satisfied with two engines. The one mounted behind the SQ6 is more strongly requested in Dynamic mode which gives it a more playful character. The Q6 and SQ6 are heavy, like all electric SUVs. Their weight was not revealed during this first contact, but it is obvious that the mass is greater than two tonnes. The recovery of kinetic energy in deceleration and braking is configurable via the location located behind the wheel. In addition, a “B” mode authorizing driving to a single pedal can be activated by means of the selector of the central console. During our tests, we observed that the transition between regenerative braking and braking guaranteed via the hydraulic brakes was almost imperceptible, a sign that calibration is well.

Road behavior is configurable in several modes, including an off-road mode. The latter lifts the cash register to increase ground clearance while calibrating electronic stability control to optimize motor skills on furniture surfaces. Comfort, Efficient and Dynamic modes are also on the program. Finally, remains the individual mode, configurable via the touch screen, which makes it possible to calibrate the various systems independently of each other.

Completely hidden

However, it was impossible for us to configure the individual mode, since the whole dashboard, as well as the central console, was covered with canvases in order to hide the layout of screens and controls. During driving, a single web section could be noted by an engineer from the brand occupying the passenger seat, so that the driver can see the vehicle speed and his energy consumption, the rest of the driving information being covered with black adhesive tape. It is therefore impossible to inform yourself about the graphic quality of the instrumentation display or the multimedia system. However, the cutting of the canvases covering the dashboard suggests that the Q6 and SQ6 will have two screens that meet to form a large digital slab, a concept similar to that of Curved Display Adopted on the most recent BMW vehicles. We were also forbidden to photograph the interior of the Q6 and SQ6, even with these canvases in place. The whole will be revealed during their world premiere, which will take place during the IAA Munich Mobility event in early September 2023.

See and be seen

In addition, the Q6 and SQ6 receive a worldwide signature parametable visual signature. The driver who can choose between eight animations for second -generation OLED fires and the Matrix LED optical blocks via the telematics system or the moaudi application. The lights are made up of six blocks of 360 OLED segments to display vibrant animations. Same scenario at the front where 122 segments, or 61 per side, make up the daylight. This new technology has advanced communication features with other road users, according to the protocol Car-to-X Communication. Thus, as an immobilized vehicle approach along the road, some segments of the OLED fires of the Q6 and SQ6 automatically display the shape of an emergency triangular panel thus warning the driver of the vehicle as a danger is a danger is here. This configurable technology for outdoor lighting allows personalization through the eight initial animations and it will also be possible to choose new animations over possible updates via the Internet.

Finally, this contact in a pre-avant-premier allowed us to note that the Q6 and SQ6 are pure Audi products. Road behavior is excellent and motor skills are particularly effective. Even if they were prototypes, the quality of assembly and the adjustment of the body panels seemed equal to that of the serial models. However, we cannot pronounce ourselves about the cabin for the reasons mentioned above, it is nevertheless expected that the Q6 and SQ6 do not lend criticism of the quality of the interior finish.

These vehicles will be launched on the market during 2024 as 2025 models. We will therefore not be able to send you the exact date of marketing in the country as well as the price scale of these new electrical views that later this fall. Continue to consult the Auto guide To learn more.
