How to save and restore data from my Galaxy smartphone

Noticed : The data backup and restoration steps may vary depending on the model and the operating system used. The steps described below were carried out with a S10+ or note10+ with the Android 10 operational system.
Smart Switch allows:
- Save your smartphone data on a PC or Mac and then restore it.
- Save and restore data from your smartphone on a micro SD card.
- Transfer data from an old smartphone (Android or iOS) to your new Galaxy smartphone.
Since 2021, Samsung has teamed up with Microsoft to offer its users a more efficient file and photos backup service with OneDrive.
Associate your Samsung and Microsoft accounts and benefit from all of OneDrive’s features to, in particular, synchronize the Gallery Photos with the cloud or even back up application data My files.
1 Open the applications panel to access “parameters”.
2 Go to “Accounts and backup”.

To automatically back up your data on your Google account:

- Having authorized Google to access your location data.
- Have activated the “Remote control” option on your smartphone via settings> Biometric data and security> Mobile tracing.
- Have an internet connection to access the Find My Mobile site from a smartphone or computer.
Noticed : To use Samsung Cloud, you must have a Samsung account beforehand.
You will find below the type of data that can be saved with Samsung Cloud:
- Settings.
- Home screen: layout of applications and widgets, wallpapers.
- Samsung applications.
- Notes.
- Contacts.
- Calendar.
- Phone newspapers.
- Messages: messages but not files attached to cats.
- Global alarms and clocks.
- Bixby Home data.
- Vocal records.
Since April 1, 2021, certain services of Samsung Cloud have been gradually interrupted ::
- Sync gallery.
- Samsung Cloud Drive.
- Subscription to a premium storage plan.
You can synchronize the photos of the Gallery and save data from My files Via Microsoft OneDrive by combining your Samsung account in OneDrive.

How to save my smartphone data on my PC or Mac ?
Smart Switch is a reliable way to save your smartphone data and keep it safe. This application allows backups from Android but also iOS devices, then restore your data on a Samsung smartphone, facilitating the configuration of your new phone.
Smart Switch is available on PC, Mac and most smartphones. Learn more about the backup and data transfer from one smartphone to another.
Install Smart Switch on PC or Mac
The Smart Switch application can be downloaded for free. Once the download is finished, you will need to install it so that you can use it.
If you use Smart Switch on Windows, Your computer must have the following characteristics:
- Operating system: Windows XP SP3 or subsequent versions
- Processor: Intel Pentium 1.8GHz or more
- Memory: 1gb or more (recommended)
- Internal memory space: minimum 500MB (recommended)
- Screen resolution: 1024 x 768 (600), 32 inches or more
- Program required: Windows Media Player 11 or more
If you use Smart Switch on Mac, Your computer must have the following characteristics:
- Operating system: Mac OS X 10.5 or later
- Processor: 1.8Hz or more
- Memory: 512MB or more
- Internal memory space: 512MB (minimum)
Remarks : These are minimum requirements to open Smart Switch. The necessary free space of the hard drive will depend on the amount of data transferred.
1 First open Smart Switch On your PC or Mac.
2 Connect your smartphone to your computer using a USB cable. Make sure to use a cable allowing data transfer.
Remarks : If your computer does not recognize your smartphone, select the menu More options at the top right of the Smart Switch home screen then click on Reinstall the device driver. You will then have to disconnect your smartphone while Smart Switch installs the pilot. Once the installation is complete, reconnect your device to the computer.
3 If an access request message appears on your smartphone, press To allow.
4 Select To safeguard.
5 Select the items you want to save and click on To safeguard.
6 Once the backup finished, click on OK.

3 If an access request message appears on your smartphone, press To allow.
4 Then click on Restore.
5 Select the desired backup then click again on Restore.
6 Once the restoration is finished, press OK.
The backup files are kept in a default folder (unless you have changed this configuration):
- Window 8/7/Vista : C: \ users \ [username] \ appdata \ roaming \ samsung \ smart switch pc
- Windows 10 or subsequent : C: \ USERS \ [Username] \ Documents \ Samsung \ Smartswitch
- Mac OS X :/Users/[username]/documents/samsung/smartswitch/backup
It depends on your device. Although Smart Switch allows you to make data transfers easily, Some content cannot be transferred.
- Most applications will be transferred. However, any secure or encrypted data (for example WhatsApp) discussions) will not be transferred.
- Many applications requiring to register with an identifier and password keep data on their own servers. However, make sure to make a backup of this data before connecting to this applications on your new phone.
- Applications have not been downloaded from the Play Store must be downloaded manually.
- Smart Switch may not be able to transfer connection information to special applications, such as Banking applications. Make sure you know the applicants for applications you want to use on your new phone.
- Google Play Store and Apple App Store are two separate sites that offer a different selection of games and applications. If you transfer data from an iOS device to an Android device, Smart Switch will try to download an equivalent Android version for these applications. If no equivalence exists, the application concerned will not be transferred.
- Finally, everything Content subject to the management of digital rights (GDN) cannot be transferred via Smart Switch.
