How to phone Wi-Fi (SIP) on Android ?
Android natively supports the SIP (Protocol initiation session) protocol). SIP is a call control protocol which allows in particular to establish telephony communications on IP. In other words, SIP allows you to make a telephone call with Wi-Fi connection, or even 3G. Your “voice” package is not started.
Make sure your Internet access provider (ISP) provides a SIP service. For non -unbundled subscriptions, the SIP service requires having a fixed IP address. In France, the Free Internet service provider provides SIP service to fixed and mobile phones with the Freebox. The SIP account of free broadband access can be used on any computer or smartphone connected to the Internet. It is therefore not necessary to be connected to the freebox Wi-Fi network concerned. Depending on the Free Prices in force, SIP allows you to benefit from free and mobile calls in France.
As part of this example, we explain to you how to configure a SIP account in FAI Free. The procedure should be adapted with your own ISP, if it authorizes the service. For security reasons, the configuration of a SIP account can only be carried out since the Wi-Fi connection of your Freebox.
Connect to your management interface using your identifier number and the free password (https: // subcriber.free.fr/login/). Click on the tab Telephony → Configure my SIP account. Click on Active To activate the service. Choose a password and indicate whether you want your incoming calls to be redirected to your SIP phone (Galaxy Note 3) or not. Note your identifier, password and domain (freephony.net).
The service being now activated, the Galaxy Note 3 should be configured. We recommend using a third party, Csipsimple, which turns out to be more reliable in use.
Download the CSIPSIMP Application (Regis Montoya) to the Play Store:
When launching the application, configure your SIP account. Button Menu of the phone → Options → Simplified configuration.
- Go to Android : allows much better SIP integration with your phone. When you call a correspondent, you can choose between a standard communication (GSM) or SIP (via Internet).
- Indicate the conditions under which activate SIP. In this example, SIP is only used for outgoing calls.
- Check the box according to which your operator authorizes to make voice on IP (VOIP).
You can now configure your SIP identifier and password. Press on Add an account, Then select your SIP operator (Free in this example). Then indicate your phone number. The domain (freephony.net) is automatically configured by the application. Your account is now active !
To call a correspondent, use either the application Phone usual (Go through the GSM), either the Android application Csipsimple.
If you do not want to use the CSISIMPLE application, IP telephony is configured on the Galaxy Note 3 from the application Phone → button Menu → Call parameters → Accounts. You can add an account or delete it.
