1. Select the object to be cut

To select the object to be cut, Photoshop provides you with several tools.
Of the Automatic cutting tools, like the “magic wand” tool, and others more precise. You will discover each of these tools during your training to learn how to use Photoshop.

Automatic tools have the advantage of being very quick to use, but much less precise than manual tools.

It is important to choose your tool according to the requirement you have. The more your image will be visible, the more precise you will have to be. If it is for a very small image, the clutch does not necessarily need to be precise to the nearest millimeter.

Using the magic baguette tool

The magic baguette tool is a Quick cutting tool On Photoshop. It allows an object to be cut as a function of the similarity of the colors.

To configure the level of resemblance between colors, you will have to Adjust the level of tolerance. By default, the software works with a tolerance of 40. The more you reduce tolerance, the more the colors must be similar, and vice versa.

You can decide to select all the colors of your image or only all colors side by side if you check the “Pixel contigu” option.

The magic baguette tool works with artificial intelligence, the result you get will therefore depend on the rate of contrast on your subject.
The advantage of this tool is its speed of execution, you only need a few clicks to get your clutch.

Using the Lasso tool

There are three types of lassos on Photoshop.

The simple lasso
This tool allows you to make a hand -raised selection. It allows you to cut a photo on Photoshop very easily. This tool is certainly fast, but it also does not allow precise cutting. If you want a more specific result, you will find below other tools for cutting Photoshop software.

The Polygonal Lasso
The Lasso Polygonal is a simple tool that allows you to cut out by drawing straight lines from one point to another that you select by clicking on your image. Once you have gone around your image, you just have to double-click to validate the selection. To be as precise as possible, we advise you to zoom as close as possible to the object you want to cut.

The magnetic polygonal lasso
It is the same lasso as that seen previously, but it has the big advantage of looking for itself what it must cut according to the contrast of colors.

IMG: magnetic polygonal lasso
You can select the amount of contrast that will be taken into account in the contrast box located on the bar above your image. You can also choose the frequency, that is to say the number of points that will be used to cut your image on Photoshop.

How to use the magnetic polygonal lasso ?

  1. To start, Click on the starting point of the object you want to cut.
  2. Then, Move your mouse along the object on which you work, this tool will draw the straight lines of itself. If a point does not seem well placed, you can of course go back to adjust the selection with manual points. The magnetic polygonal lasso allows you to work faster than the polygonal lasso and more precisely than the simple lasso.
  3. Once your object has been towed, think of zoom in on your image In order to see if the selection is correct. Indeed, the places where contrasts are low can be difficult to understand for this tool.

To have a clean rendering, we advise you to Combine several cutting tools On Photoshop.

Using the Plume tool

The Plume tool is the most difficult to take control tool on Photoshop. Whenever you click, you create a new point, but the big difference with the other two Photoshop tools is that you can make rounds.

Make a layout
Just click to position your point, then shoot by following the line you want to cut.
This is the ultimate tool to make a perfect route, if you want a result to the nearest millimeter. You can cut a hair of hair on Photoshop with this tool.
