According to a report by Oxfam, the carbon footprint of the six main French banks (BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole, Société Générale, BPCE, La Banque Postale, Crédit Mutuel), resulting from their financing activities, represents, cumulative, near eight times the greenhouse gas emissions from France. After awareness and indignation in the face of pollution generated by this money, Maeva Courtois, A 30 -year -old engineer who worked in finance (Oddo, Exane), and her friend Julia Ménayas, 29 years old, HEC passed by the BCG then the Alven Fund, founded their start-up in 2020 to launch an alternative banking offer, where customers’ money would not finance companies that aggravate the climate crisis. In a few months, they gathered funds and proposed from the end of 2021 the current account and the Helios bank card, associated with an application that allows you to know precisely which projects and which companies are funded. “5,000 euros deposited in a current account, it is the equivalent of 3.5 tonnes of CO² per year. At Hélios, according to our impact report, we fall at 700kg per year. And without doing anything other than changing bank; It’s easier than stopping eating meat or reducing transport by plane !”Makes Maeva Courtois. This service, invoiced from 3 to 6 euros per month, which offers a current account, a joint account, a young account and an unpaid savings book, has already attracted 15.000 customers. After having raised 11 million euros since 2020, the Green Neo-Banque which employs 25 people now seeks new funds to continue to develop its offer (life insurance should soon be added) and develop in Europe, starting with Spain next year.

Mission company co-created in March 2020 by Maeva Courtois and Julia Ménayas, Helios is a new ecological banking model.
