The Pixel 7 takes up the same iconic design of the Pixel 6, with one more touch

It is an understatement to say that the Pixel 6 had not gone unnoticed when it was released, sporting an innovative and elegant look compared to its too sober predecessors, now recognizable among a thousand. Google has indeed found its trademark by placing the photo module located on the back of the device in a large black band in relief. A design that has appealed to the public, and that we make ourselves a joy to find on the new Pixel 7 … with which is more a pretty little personal touch: this band that contains the camera is not only finer, It is above all more black, but of a metallic appearance of the most beautiful effect. Really classy.

Now, in terms of characteristics, there is a small difference in size between the old and the new generation. Surprisingly, the pixel 7 is a smaller chouïa than the Pixel 6, with a 6.3 -inch screen against 6.4 inch for its predecessor. It is indeed a little less long (height of 155 mm against 158.6 mm) and a little less wide (width of 74 mm against 74.8 mm). Regarding the most premium models, the Pixel 7 Pro keeps the same large 6.7 -inch screen as the Pixel 6 Pro, despite a size also slightly smaller (height of 162.9 mm against 163.9 mm, and width of 76.6 mm against 75.9 mm).

For good reason: after introducing its Google Tensor house chip on the Pixel 6, the Mountain View firm naturally equipped its pixel 7 with a new version, called Tensor G2. And this makes all the difference: it is promised not only 60% faster, but also 20% more efficient in terms of energy ! While the Pixel 7 is however equipped with a less imposing battery (4,355 mAh against 4,614 mAh on the Pixel 6), it thus benefits from better autonomy: up to 72 hours in energy saving mode, against “Only” 48 hours for its predecessor ! Ditto for the pro model, which is taking advantage of a 5,000 mAh battery. Beyond that, the new vintage is once again compatible with the fast load, and we will note that it has the same memories options as the previous one: 8 GB of RAM with 128 GB or 256 GB of storage for The “Standard” model, and 12 GB of RAM with 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB of storage for the pro model.

Finally, let’s talk about photo. At first glance, Google does not seem to have changed much at this level. Which would not even have been so disturbing, knowing that the Pixel 6 are already real pros in this area ! But by looking more closely, we still see a few small changes here and there, which should once again make the difference … Starting with the selfie camera, improved on the pixel 7, with a resolution now 10.8 Mpxl like his big pro brother, against 8 mpxl on the pixel 6.

Then, at the back, we first find the same Grand -Angle – Impressive – 50 MPXL sensor (with f/1.85 opening) over the entire range. With the difference that the new models offer stabilization no longer only optical but also electronic image. For its part, the Ultra Grand Angle Sensor of 12 MP (Opening F/2.2) also remains the same, except on the Pixel 7 Pro where it has an autofocus system (focus) as a bonus. This new pro model also benefits from a nice little improvement on the telephoto lens of 48 Mpxl (f/3.5 opening) that we already found on the Pixel 6 Pro: in this new version it has a X5 optical zoom, with high resolution digital zoom to X30. And icing on the cake, Google has concocted a whole new software functionality which promises to do miracles: the anti-scum, which as its name suggests allows you to catch up with failed shots by making them sharper thanks to the artificial intelligence. A little more refined design

On the design, three differences are to be noted:

• The Pixel 7 is lighter by 10 grams and thus passes the 200 gram bar for 197 grams. It is also smaller thanks to a 6.3 -inch screen diagonal against 6.4 before. All this makes it a more compact smartphone than Pixel 7, but also a little less comfortable to watch video, a bit of a bit.
• The photo block has changed somewhat. More rounded, with less marked edges, it should age a little better than its predecessor because of its light color.

If our benchmarks tend to demonstrate that gain is not easy from one generation to another, our tests go a bit in the same direction.
