Google Drive: Save your photos from your Windows or Mac PC

On your computer:

• Download and install backup and synchronization by clicking here
• Connect it to your Google account
• When the application requests it, choose to save the content that interests you (photos, videos, other files, etc.)
• Select the file (s) in which your photos are located
• Choose the import size in the section Import size of photos and videos and click on To start up To start backup

• If you have chosen the import size High quality, Your backup space is unlimited but the platform will compress your photos beyond 16 megapixels.
• If you choose the import size Original, The size of the backup cannot exceed 15 GB of free Google Drive storage or if necessary the remaining storage space that you bought.

It is also possible to handle your photos manually via your browser:

• Go to http: // drive.Google.com
• Click import up to the top left or slide your folders directly containing your photos (do not close the window during the transfer)

On Android, the Google Photos Application now allows European users to set a limit for image backup via mobile data. Interesting, but it is done at the expense of another practical option.

If you use Google Photos on Android, you should see a small change in the menu dedicated to backup and synchronization. Indeed, the application deploys in Europe and the United States a functionality allowing to manage different consumption of your mobile data (4G or 5G) by setting a daily limit for the backup of your photos and videos.

As reminded 9TO5GOOGLE, This novelty is not really one, since it had already been introduced in India in March 2019, as well as in other emerging countries. However, it is only now only European and American users of Google Photos are taking advantage of it in turn.

A daily backup limit on Google Photos

So going in Settings > Backup and synchronization > Mobile data consumption, You will see an option called ” Daily backup limit »». This makes it possible to indicate to the Google Photos application that it cannot exceed a certain amount of mobile data to save the photos and videos of your smartphone on your account.

You have the choice between:

• No data ;
• 5 MB;
• 10 MB;
• 30 MB;
• No limits.

An additional function allows these parameters to be applied to roaming.

This option may be practical on certain occasions if you want to automatically save content on Google Photos without waiting to be connected to a Wi-Fi network, but without dilapidating your mobile package either.

Another practical function unfortunately disappears

Alas, in return for this option, another very practical function is no longer available. Indeed, it was so far possible to tell Google Photos to save only photos via mobile data and exclude videos generally much larger than fixed images.

Everyone could thus enjoy a quick backup of photos that do not take up too much space and leave the videos aside while waiting to capture a Wi-Fi network. It is quite a shame to have removed this option allowing more freedom.

A Google error ?

9TO5GOOGLE also advances an interesting hypothesis: Google may have simply deceived in its deployment. Indeed, the official support page does not mention the daily limit function while people using Google Photos on iOS do not observe any change.

Indeed, on iPhone, the application always leaves the possibility of excluding videos from backups via mobile data. If Google has indeed committed a little dumpling, let’s hope that the firm remedies it quickly.
