SIM cards evolve with the development of phones with different formats. From the classic SIM card to the Nano SIM via the micro SIM, It is now ESIM which is the logical and dematerialized evolution of the SIM card. With this new system, phones will no longer need notches to insert a SIM card, only a QR code will be necessary to add its ESIM and use the mobile package of its operator.
ESIM is the abbreviation of Embedded Sim, which can result in integrated SIM, or SIM embedded in French. To date, several operators in France allow you to benefit from this new type of SIM card but few consumers know how to get one, at what price, with which operator and how to activate it on his phone. MonpetitForfait answers all these questions and lists the different mobile packages with Esim.
Which operator offers an ESIM package and how to subscribe ?
To date, the main mobile operators offer ESIM packages. This is particularly the case with Orange, SFR, Bouygues Télécom and Free. According to the operator, there are however some specificities which will be detailed on this page to help you choose the most practical and cheapest offer. Only a few “virtual” operators to date offer mobile packages with ESIM, such as Red by SFR, B & You or Sosh and Prixtel. You will still have to wait before seeing this SIM card format at other operators.
Find an ESIM package for its mobile package or its watch.
To have a mobile package with an ESIM, you have to:

In order to give you an overview of the operators offering mobile packages with ESIM as well as the price of this option, here is a summary table:
Orange ESIM packages and the process to benefit from it
In terms of mobile plans adapted to ESIM, the historic operator Orange is a pioneer in France. Since June 2019, the latter actually offers ESIM in France to its subscribers. In February 2020, Orange announced access to ESIM for everyone, provided you have a compatible mobile.
It then exists Two ways to enjoy ESIM at Orange ::

Bouygues Telecom also offers ESIM since June 2020. Unlike SFR and Orange, it is not currently possible to subscribe online to a package by directly choosing the ESIM format. You must first subscribe a mobile feeling of Bouygues Télécom, receive your classic SIM card and activate it, then make a replacement request from this SIM card by an ESIM Bouygues Telecom.
The approach is therefore not the most practical for new subscribers even if all the operator’s subscriptions remain compatible with ESIM. It is however possible to subscribe to it in the store to benefit directly from it.
For Bouygues Télécom customers wishing to go to ESIM, the process is easily achievable via the customer area:
- Go to the customer area and click on “My mobile”;

Prixtel first offers ESIM to its new customers who carry out the portability of their number. Then just Choose ESIM when subscribing. Please note, ESIM is not available for line creations with a new number.
Subscribers who already have a Prixtel package can also take advantage of ESIM. To do this, just go to your Prixtel customer area, and Ask the passage to ESIM. In both cases, it costs 10 €, but customers have subscribed for more than a year can get the passage to ESIM for only 5 €.

The first is to choose ESIM directly instead of the triple cut SIM card when subscribing to the youprice package with Orange network. To do this, just Check “ESIM” in the “Type of SIM card” part. In addition to that, an additional € 1/month is applied to the price of the mobile package. The latter also applies in the event of subscription of a new ESIM package at YouPrice, and not only for migration.
Does you propose ESIM for connected watches ?
For the moment, ESIM is only available with mobile packages at YouPrice. It is therefore not possible to take advantage of it with a connected watch. However, it is a safe bet that this feature will arrive one day or another at the operator.
Is ESIM available to other so-called virtual operators ?
Most so -called virtual mobile operators do not yet offer ESIM format. However, it should be possible to take advantage of the ESIM card among operators like NRJ Mobile, Auchan Telecom, Syma Mobile, La Poste Mobile or Cdiscount Mobile by the coming months but no date has been communicated for the moment. Even if these operators use the networks of historic operators, and one could legitimately think that ESIM is available. However, this is not the case for most operators. Currently ESIM is available at Coriolis Telecom and Prixtel.
All the brands of the EI-Telecom group now belonging to Bouygues Télécom (Auchan Telecom, NRJ Mobile, Cdiscount Mobile) do not offer ESIM. These MVNOs themselves take care of commercial and technical management around the management of SIM cards and are therefore not “supported” by historical operators. On the price of price, which now operates only on SFR’s mobile network, ESIM is available for new and old customers as previously seen.
Coriolis Telecom also allows you to take advantage of the ESIM format. However, like Bouygues Télécom and B & You, you must already be a customer before you can replace your standard SIM card with an ESIM card against 10 €. The operator should also leave the possibility of subscribing directly to this format soon. Finally, YouPrice also offers ESIM with its packages on the Orange network.
What are the mobile packages available with ESIM ?
Whatever the mobile operator offering ESIM format, all mobile packages are compatible. There is no mobile plan dedicated to ESIM. Any subscription can be chosen in order to be able to take advantage of ESIM from operators who offer it.
What are the phones compatible with ESIM ?
Historically, the First mobile phones with an ESIM were the Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL. In addition to Google mobile devices models, other manufacturers offer phones compatible with ESIM, such as Samsung, Apple or Oppo and Huawei.

ESIM unavailable with Xiaomi phones
For the moment, Xiaomi does not offer compatibility with the ESIM format. The next Xiaomi smartphones models should certainly offer ESIM.
How to benefit from ESIM on its connected watch ?
Many operators now offer ESIM with all the mobile plans in their range. This is particularly the case of Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom, Free and certain operators like Red by SFR, Sosh, B & You, Coriolis Telecom and Prixtel. When you have a connected watch like the Apple Watch or the Galaxy Watch or another model, you generally want to be able to use your watch to call, send sms and others without necessarily having your associated phone.
For this, it is imperative to benefit from an ESIM package. It is thus possible to take advantage of it with most operators. However, Some operators like Orange/Sosh and SFR/Red by SFR offer an option with its mobile package in order to be able to benefit from an ESIM for connected watch in addition to its subscription for only € 5/month. This avoids subscribing to two subscriptions and it is well then cheaper and is above all much more practical.
To get an ESIM on its connected watch, you have to:
- Choose a package with ESIM at Orange, SOSH, SFR or Red by SFR;
- Subscribe to the connected watch option for € 5/month;
- Activate the ESIM card on its Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch connected watch;
- Among other operators, it will be necessary to subscribe to an ESIM package in addition to its mobile package.
What do we call Esim, or on-board SIM card ?
Full size, Mini, microphone, nano, and now esim: SIM card formats are changing regularly. In France, the privileged format is today nano-sim. However, new technology, allowing to save even more space, should soon democratize. This is the on -board SIM card, or Esim. How does it work, for what applications and what advantages ?
What is the integrated SIM card, also named Esim ?
In the race for the miniaturization of SIM cards, ESIM represents the ultimate solution. It’s about a virtual sim card, which is directly integrated into the mobile device when manufacturing. If they have applications for mobile phones, the usefulness of ESIM is not confined to them, far from it.
As part of the democratization of connected objects, this new SIM card technology will be essential. With a SIM card, These intelligent devices can relate to the Internet of Things, also called IoT, For Internet of Things. Thanks to an ESIM, these devices can then benefit from the Internet, even in the absence of a Wi-Fi network or Bluetooth connection, for example.
How does the E-SIM card work and what difference with other SIM cards ?
Since some connected objects are small, it is not always possible to insert a SIM card, even in nano format. With ESIM, it is thus possible to integrate it directly, during the design of the object. Some connected watches, such as Samsung Gear from the S2 generation, are already equipped with an ESIM.
With an activation cost, and a monthly subscription, it is then possible to activate the ESIM that they contain. Consequently, it is possible to use the connected watch, and Pass telephone communications without having to have your smartphone available.
If you forget your mobile phone, the connected object therefore remains perfectly functional. In smartphones, ESIM is also very useful. However, it provides nothing more than the same functions as a traditional SIM card, uncompromising less. However, many advantages result from it.
What is the IoT, the Internet of Things ?
L’Internet of Things (IoT), namely Internet of objects, or IDO in French, represents in a simplified way All objects that communicate with each other or with their owner via the Internet network, Apart from smartphones and computers. The IDO therefore includes basic connected objects, such as fitness bracelets, for example, but also cars, connected bulbs, etc. The Internet of Things even extends, for example, to sensors located in water distribution networks. It is therefore a very large concept, which evolves over the advancement technological.
ESIM: a technology from which there are many advantages
In recent years, newspapers have announced the arrival of this new standard that ESIM represents. Why this format seems to this point intended to impose itself ? The answer is simple: theuse of an ESIM implies many advantages, which are first linked to the place that this new format saves.
In addition to this aspect, ESIM has other advantages for consumers. With this technology, it is for example possible to Change smartphone, operator or even countries without having to change SIM card. This therefore represents time and money for customers.
What are the main advantages of ESIM ?
- The use of ESIM greatly simplifies the process of manufacturing smartphones. Manufacturers no longer have a physical location to slip a SIM card.
- In the event of a change of telephone operator, the customers no longer have to change Sim card, Which could sometimes involve a tedious procedure: the change in the format of his SIM card.
- Operators will no longer need to send a SIM card to their customers. Information is directly downloaded in the ESIM of the phone.
- Theoretically, These chips can be multi-operator. Customers will therefore be able to logically have several mobile packages on the same ESIM. However, it depends on the good-time of the manufacturers.
- For connected objects, ESIMs allow you to gain space. Some devices of this type, such as connected watches, for example, are indeed very small.
