Ericsson phone, “sewing machine” style
This 1885 Ericsson phone is also called “sewing machine”. It has an adjustable microphone. The ornate base is made of black cast iron, decorated with garlands of flowers, stars and leaf of golden stylized acanthus on the faces.
The magnetic call is integrated into the foot of the post near the ringtone.
This phone is one of the most distributed worldwide, from Australia to South America via the United States, Russia, Switzerland, South Africa. Manufacturing generally adapts to the country, in particular in Hungary and England. However, it is practically not distributed in France. In the United States, it is called “Eiffel Tower”.
On the occasion of the centenary of the phone in 1976, Ericsson produced a copy in a large series, the constituent elements being modernized and a keyboard hidden in a wooden base.
