How to deactivate and activate emergency alerts on Android phones
Imminent threat – This alert is intended to inform people of bad weather. The aim of said alert is to prevent damage to property and lives. The alert is generally divided into “serious threats” or “extreme threats”.
Emergency alerts and national public alert system
THE National public alert system is a federal, provincial and territorial system that allows emergency management organizations from all over Canada to warn the public of imminent or possible dangers such as floods, tornadoes, dangerous materials, fires and other disasters. The system is also used for Amber Alerts and other urgent bulletins on children’s kidnappings when you believe that the child is seriously in danger.
These warnings likely to save lives, which are specific to a region (geocibbles), are called emergency alerts. When an alert is issued, it is broadcast on television and radio and sent to mobile devices connected to an LTE network (long -term evolution).
Emergency alerts are created and sent by authorized emergency management organizations, such as police, environment and climate change services Canada and provincial and territorial organizations.
Role of CRTC
The CRTC participated in the development of the national public alert system, in collaboration with the Canadian radio industry and government stakeholders. He is also responsible for the application of the regulations which obliges mobile service providers, cable and satellite distribution companies, as well as broadcasters and telediffusers to distribute emergency alerts.
Each year, wireless service providers and broadcasters broadcast two test alerts. The first is sent in May, during the Civil Security Week. The second is usually sent in November.

Appearance and its coherent alerts
To ensure that they are easily recognizable everywhere in Canada, visual appearance, sound, content and other aspects of emergency alerts are guided by senior executives responsible for emergency management. This federal, provincial and territorial organization strives to harmonize and improve emergency intervention practices nationwide.
TV and radio alerts
When an emergency management organization sends an emergency alert in a situation that can endanger a person in danger, this alert is broadcast automatically and regular programming is interrupted on television and radio in the geographic region chosen, accompanied by a unique alert tone.
Mobile devices alerts
All wireless service providers are required to disseminate emergency alerts to devices connected to their LTE networks. Alerts on mobile devices trigger a unique vibration and use the same tone as the one used for alerts on television and radio.
To receive wireless alerts, your mobile device must be:
- able to connect to an LTE network, such as a smartphone;
- compatible with wireless alerts to the public;
- Connected to an LTE cellular network when the emergency alert is issued.
You do not need to activate location services on your wireless device to receive an alert.
Since emergency alert messages are distributed in a defined geographical area, only the devices in the selected area will be able to receive an emergency alert. This means that if you are traveling elsewhere in Canada and an alert is expressed for your location, you will receive the alert, provided you have a compatible device connected to a LTE network.
Can I choose not to receive alerts?
No. Emergency alerts are only issued if there is an imminent threat to life or for goods so that you can take measures to ensure your security and that of your family. For this reason, they are considered to be of critical importance for all people in the target area.
The CRTC therefore requires that wireless service providers broadcast alerts on all Compatible wireless devices connected to an LTE network in the area covered by the alert.
However, depending on your device, you can choose how it alerts you.

These emergency notifications such as Google weather alerts and presidential alerts are intended to warn you of unfavorable weather conditions or questions that are of major importance for the nation. These Android emergency alerts are adapted in the hope of saving a life.
However, not everyone wants to be pushed to receive these emergency alerts. Even if Android weather alerts are really important, some people have their own way of keeping up to date. Not everyone will feel happy to receive Android emergency weather alerts on their smartphone. Know how to stop the Amber alerts or deactivate emergency weather alerts on Android should be useful then.
Different types of alerts
Before approaching how to deactivate emergency alert, it would be useful to know what are the different types of emergency alerts imposed by the federal government. Technically, there are three types of emergency alerts that an Android phone can receive. Namely, this is a presidential alert, an imminent threat alert and an amber alert.
Presidential alert – This particular alert is the type of alert which is issued by the President of the United States of America. Sometimes a designated person can also be the person who has issued said alert. This alert generally concerns serious questions affecting the nation.
Imminent threat – This alert is intended to inform people of bad weather. The aim of said alert is to prevent damage to property and lives. The alert is generally divided into “serious threats” or “extreme threats”.
Amber alert – Specific alerts aimed at finding missing children are called Amber Alerts. Amber is the shortcut for “the missing of America: diffusion emergency response”. Usually the Amber alert will just give you the location, the car license plate number, and the model, the brand and the color of the car.
Now you know how to differentiate different types of alert. You are not ready to deactivate them from your Android smartphone. Here are the steps to deactivate the emergency alert.
Deactivation of all alerts
If you do not want to be informed of any emergency, then you can simply go ahead and deactivate all the emergency alerts that your Android smartphone has planned the beep to. In this task, you will deactivate only one option.
Step 1 Access your phone’s “settings”.
2nd step Scroll down and find the option “plus . “”.
Step 3 Look for the “Emergencies broadcast” option. It is generally found at the bottom.
Step 4 Look for the “Activate notifications” option. You can then deactivate this option to completely deactivate all emergency alerts.
Disabling individual alerts
Of course, there may be emergency alerts that you want to keep up to date. You may want the amber alert to be activated but the rest is deactivated since you can already be notified on this subject via the TV. If this is the case, then you should learn how to deactivate the alerts individually.
Step 1 Go to “parameters”.
2nd step Find the option “plus . “”.
Step 3 Located at the bottom will be “emergency broadcasts” “. You must press it to see the alert options you can check.
Step 4 By default, boxes alongside emergency alerts are checked. This means that you receive emergency alerts for them. You can deselect the emergency alerts boxes that you do not wish to receive.
If you uncheck the “Show extreme threats” box, you will not be warned of the most urgent emergency situation in your country or your locality. If it is the “showing serious threats” box that you have disocious, then you will never receive emergency situations that are less serious than extreme threats. If you have disabled the “Show Amber Alerts” box, you will not receive alerts on missing children or wandering elderly people.
Deactivation of alerts from the mail application
Sometimes you may not be able to see the option of deactivating the emergency alert through the aforementioned steps. If this is the case, then you may need to look in your messaging app.
Step 1 Launch your “messaging”
2nd step From where all messages are listed, find the “menu”. Usually this is represented by three points in the left or right corner of the screen. After pressing this key, choose “Settings”.
Step 3 Choose “Emergency alerts”.
Step 4 Uncheck the alerts you want to deactivate. Note that if you can deactivate other alerts, you cannot deactivate the presidential alert.
Deactivation of alerts from a separate emergency alert application
Some Android devices have a separate emergency alert application. If you use emergency alert applications, you must go through different steps.
Step 1 From the home screen, you must press the application cursor to display your emergency alert application.
2nd step Open the “Emergency app” application.
Step 3 Choose “Menu”, then go to “Settings”.
Step 4 Choose “Receive alerts” for this emergency notification application.
Step 5 Uncheck the alerts you don’t want to receive.
Activate emergency alerts
You may have already disabled Google emergency alerts, but you’ve changed your mind. If this is the case, then you should not have problems activating emergency alerts such as Google weather alerts.
Step 1 Go to “Settings”
2nd step Find the option “plus . “”.
Step 3 Locate “emergency diffusions”.
Step 4 Check the deactivated emergency alerts that you want to reactivate.
