Essential element of your electric heating installation, programming your radiators allows you to achieve between 10 and 15% additional energy savings.

heating programmer Programmable thermostatloading

A heating programmer regulates your temperature according to your lifestyle. According to ADEME, 1 additional degree from 16 °, it is 7% more consumption. The cheapest energy being the one that is not consumed, it is imperative to lower the temperature of your accommodation when you do not occupy it.
Programmer with or without deported thermostat, load shedding, intelligent radiators, this guide will help you choose a system adapted to your needs.

Why install a heating programmer ?

  • The objective is to optimize the operation of your heating installation, so that they heat your accommodation at a comfortable temperature only when you are present.
  • Unlike central heating, electric radiators operate independently of each other depending on the rooms where they are located.
  • The programming allows all of your radiators to centralize on a control box and thus program their operation according to your life rate.
  • In buildings built from the 2000s, electric radiators can already be connected to a programming power station.

How does heating programming work ?
All the radiators on the market offer the same operating modes. The radiators, called “intelligent”, propose to additional modes, we will talk about it a little lower.

Radiator thermostat

  • Programming: generally symbolized by a clock or a prog. This mode is used when the radiators are connected to a programming power station
  • Comfort mode: generally symbolized by a sun. This is the mode to use to have the comfort temperature, that is to say that indicated on the thermostat.
  • Eco mode: generally symbolized by a moon or an eco. This mode makes it possible to automatically lower approximately 3 to 4 ° the comfort temperature. Some models of electric radiators offer to manually manage the gap between the comfort temperature and the Eco temperature.
  • Hors freezing mode: generally symbolized by a snowflake. This mode allows you to maintain a minimum temperature when you are absent for several days during the winter.
  • On Off

These modes are available on the thermostat of your radiators. You can modify them manually according to your needs.

Programmer without thermostat: Each radiator manages its own temperature

heating programmer

  • One of the advantages of having independent radiators in each room is to be able to have different comfort temperatures, according to the needs of the occupants.
  • If you want to keep this advantage, we advise you to install a programmer without thermostat.
  • It will allow you to manage the transition from Eco mode to comfort according to the schedules you have defined, independently for each heating zone.
  • You can install it in a cupboard or near your electrical panel.

Programmer with deported thermostat: temperature is the same for all radiators

Programmable thermostat

  • When the programmer also acts as thermostat, this means that the comfort temperature is the one taken where the programmable thermostat is located
  • This solution is suitable for regulating a large part, in which several radiators are installed.
  • To obtain a homogeneous temperature, the deported thermostat will generally be placed in the center of the room.
  • You have a centralized command to manage the temperature and programming all of your radiators.

Delights: your electrical installation will be restricted to a given power

loading

  • The load shedding will distribute the available power according to your needs and your subscription (day/night, HC/HP).
  • For example in full winter, when electricity consumption is maximum, the deleteur will supply priority such or such part of your electrical installation. If the heating request is too strong, you may not be able to use your washing machines or part of your electrical installation that you will have defined.
  • The load shedding offers the possibility of reducing its EDF subscription or not increasing it. It limits its electricity consumption by prioritizing its use.

Intelligent electric radiators: the new generation
At the time of all electronic and connected objects, the radiators are not to be outdone. Smart radiators appear on the market. These radiators offer additional modes that will allow you to optimize your heating consumption even more:

Intelligent radiators thermostat

  • Window opening detection
  • Presence detection
  • an on -board programming system
  • Distance control (home automation)
  • consumption display

Programming by heating zone
A programming power station allows you to connect your radiators the whole by heating zone:

  • A day area For main living rooms (living room, dining room, kitchen, entrance)
  • A night area For the bedroom part.
  • Some programming power plants allow you to manage up to 6 heating areas.

You can thus order in one click, to all of your radiators of an area, to go into Eco, Comfort, out -of -freezing mode or to stop. The final objective of the programming is to program each heating zone, with an automatic transition from Eco mode to Comfort according to predefined daily schedules. You thus have an autonomous electric heating installation, which adapts to your pace of life and which optimizes its electricity consumption.

How to connect your electric radiators to the programmer ?
Carrier current (CP), pilot wire (FP) or radio ? When choosing your programming system you will have the choice between these 3 possibilities to connect your radiators to the programming power station.

Pilot wire programming:

Pilot wire programming by heating zone

  • Your electrical installation has a pilot wire: A thread starts from each radiator to the programming power station to be connected to an area. In recent buildings, your installation may already be equipped with a pilot wire. To check you just disassemble a radiator and check how many wire comes out of the wall. You must have a phase (red), a neutral (blue) and a earth (green and yellow). If the earth is not connected to your radiator not panic, the radiators are already isolated, no need to connect them to the earth. If in addition to these three wires you have a 4th wire (black), bingo, you have a pilot wire pending. If it is connected to the radiator, it is that you probably already have a programming power station

current programming carrying by heating zone

“Wireless” programming:
Your electrical installation does not have a pilot wire: The work to install a pilot wire if it is not already present in your electrical installation is generally large enough. Unless you are not going to redo your electrical installation and you plan to install a pilot wire at that time, “wireless” solutions exist.

  • Carrier current: Programming orders are sent directly by electric current. Your radiators are equipped with a current “carrier/pilot wire” current programming interface. Once connected to the current, they will communicate with the current programming power plant itself connected to the current.
  • Radio wave : Programming is managed by radio wave. “Radio/ pilot wire” interfaces will be installed on your radiators so that they can contact the radio programmer radio.

These two “wireless” solutions have the same advantages. No special work to be expected, a reasonable cost, 2 to 6 programming zones.

Management of your electric radiators remotely with home automation

manager of

  • Thanks to energy managers or remote programmable thermostats you can, by phone or internet, order your heating installation.
  • The energy manager will also be able to manage domestic hot water and the various connected devices of your accommodation.

How much is the installation of a heating programmer

  • Pilot wire programmer: 80 to 300 €
  • Current carrier programmer or radio wave: 150 to 300 €
  • CP/FP or radio/FP interface: 60 to 100 €
  • Depelly: 120 to 450 €
  • Smart radiators: 600 to 1500 €
  • Energy manager: 200 to 400 €
