420,888 special new cars were registered in France between January and March 2023 against 365,360 in the first quarter of 2022, an increase of 15.2 %, according to data published on Saturday April 1 by the automotive platform and AAA Data.

On the motorization side, if diesel continues its descent into hell, electricity continues to grow inexorably, driven by the ecological bonus revised upwards on January 1, 2023. Electric vehicles represented 15.4 % of the market for new passenger cars in the first quarter of 2023, with 64,884 registrations against 12 % in T1 2022.

If we scrutinize the details of electric car sales over the first three months of 2023, the TOP 10 has some surprises. The first is the consecration of the Tesla Model Y, since the US SUV occupies the first place of the podium, in front of the Dacia Spring and the Peugeot E208. The Tesla SUV undoubtedly benefited from the drop in prices made by the manufacturer in recent weeks, which has made it possible to receive the first model (propulsion) at less than 40,000 euros. The prices have since returned the 41 K € mark.

The second surprise is the arrival at the seventh row of the MG4, the compact sedan of the Chinese brand which continues to surprise by its good quality/price ratio.

“The technological choice of electric motorization upsets the order established among manufacturers at the national level and worldwide. With the arrival of Chinese brands on the French market, the market share of historic manufacturers are likely to be dearly disputed, “said Julien Billon, Managing Director of AAA Data, interviewed by AFP.
