Important clarification in the calendar: December 15 is also the date chosen to set up the environmental score, while the government had rather mentioned an evolution on January 1, 2024 so far. “All vehicles purchased after December 15 will have to reach a minimum environmental score to benefit from the bonus,” said the government. “The vehicles ordered before December 15 will be able to benefit from the old version of the bonus if they are delivered within three months after the order,” added the executive. An environmental score linked to different criteria

The big cleaning will be done through an environmental score, established according to an ADEME methodology, the ecological transition agency. Electric cars will have to win a note of around 60 or 70 out of 100 to remain eligible for the ecological bonus. The rating will take into account four major criteria: the materials used to produce the vehicle, the energy consumption linked to the assembly of the vehicle, the type of battery aboard the car, and finally the vehicle delivery mode. In the future, the score could also take into account data related to the circular economy, in particular the repairability of the battery and the incorporation of recycled and bio -based materials.

The government promises “a wide choice”

Note also that manufacturers whose models will not be eligible for the bonus will have the opportunity to appeal, if they believe that the ADEME methodology does not faithfully reflect the carbon footprint of their vehicle. In which case they will have to submit additional evidence to prove that their factory is virtuous.

Towards a revaluation of the bonus for modest households ?

In addition to the list of models concerned, the amount of aid must also be specified. According to echoes, the bonus could go from 7.000 euros at 8.000 euros for the most modest households but again, government sources do not confirm: “Arbitrations are not yet returned to the amounts for 2024.»

And another symbolic measure remains to be clarified: that of social leasing, intended for modest households to rent an electric car at 100 euros per month. “Leasing will also be based on the environmental score,” said the government. The state promises more information on this point in November or December.
