Fill and sign a PDF form in Overview on Mac

Some PDFs are forms that you can fill in to print or send them. You will not be able to select or enter text in PDF forms which cannot be modified. If a form requires a signature, you can add your signature to the PDF.

Fill out a PDF form

  1. In the seen app On your Mac, open the PDF form.
  2. Click the “Show the form filling toolbar” button .
  3. Click on a field in the form, then enter your text.

If you save the form (by choosing file> Export), you can close it, reopen it later and continue to fill it.

Create and use signatures

To sign PDF files, you can capture your signature using your trackpad, the integrated camera of your Mac, or your iPhone or iPad.

  1. In the seen app On your Mac, click the “Show the annotation toolbar” button (if the annotation toolbar is not displayed), then click the Sign button .
  2. Click “Create a signature” if the option is displayed, then follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
    • Create a signature using the trackpad: Click on trackpad, click on the text when you are invited, sign on the trackpad with your finger, press a key, then click finished. If the result does not satisfy you, click erase, then try again. If your Mac is equipped with a trackpad Force Touch, you can press the trackpad more firmly to sign with a thicker and darker line.
    • Create a signature using the integrated camera of your computer: Camera click. Place your signature (on white paper) facing the camera, so that it is aligned with the blue line. When your signature appears on the screen, click finished. If the result does not satisfy you, click erase, then try again.
    • To create a signature using your iPhone or iPad: Click “Select a device” to choose a device (if several are available). On your device, sign with your finger or using the Apple Pencil (on iPad), then touch finished. If you are not satisfied with the result, touch erase, then try again.

If you use Voiceover, the Mac integrated screen player, you can add a description to a signature when you create it. This is particularly useful if you create several signatures and need to differentiate them to make sure you use the desired signature. Before clicking on finished or touching this option, click on the Local Description menu, then choose a description, as initials, or choose customize to create your own description.

  • Click on the Signon button, then on the signature to add it to your PDF. If you have used Voiceover to add descriptions of your signatures, Voiceover reads descriptions as you browse in the signatures list. Choose the signature you want to use, drag it to the location of your choice, then use the handles to resize it.
  • If you use iCloud Drive, your signatures are available on your other Mac computers on which iCloud Drive is activated.

    Delete a recorded signature

    1. In the seen app On your Mac, click the “Show the annotation toolbar” button (if the annotation toolbar is not displayed).
    2. Click on the Sign button , Place the pointer on the signature, then click on the X on the right.

The signature is deleted from all apps that use the annotating function on your mac computer. If iCloud Drive is activated, the signature is also deleted from your other Mac computers on which iCloud Drive is activated.
