The LCL acronym designates the initials of a large French bank: the Credit Lyonnais. Its origin dates back to the end of the 19th century, in Lyon, while Henri Germain, son of silky, wishes to be able to finance industrial development by collecting dormant savings of households. The network of the new banking establishment will gradually extend to France and beyond by winning in European capitals: in 1913, its position as a referent actor is no doubt with, to his credit, nearly 300 agencies, 16,400 employees around the world, including 13,900 in France. He set up his central headquarters in 1882 in Paris in the Hôtel des Italiens.

It was nationalized in 1945 and initiated the modernization of its processes: first programs of convertible bonds (in the 1950s), creation of an agency specializing in wealth management (1952), creation of the SLIVAM (Lyonnaise de Investment in securities), prefiguration of SICAVs (1959) and structural reforms to remain competitive in the face of the strong banking competition. Nevertheless, Crédit Lyonnais appears weakened by the 1992 crisis: it was privatized in 1999, and the State puts its 10 % of capital remaining at auction in November 2002. Crédit Agricole SA absorbs Crédit Lyonnais in 2003. The latter becomes one of the group’s 6 business centers and refocus on its national local banking activity.
