There is no option here to select a server as with competitors. In general, the connection is rapid (less than 10 seconds). The countdown indicates the duration of the connection.

Atlas VPN’s Kill Switch function disconnects your Internet device if your VPN connection is interrupted for any reason. This prevents the leak of your real IP address.

SAFESWAP and MULTIHOP are useful functions for safety. The first takes you from one place to another (Singapore, the Netherlands and the United States for example) to make yourself more difficult to follow. The second, Multihop, transit your data by several servers before transporting it to their destination, which also makes you more difficult to spot. Atlas VPN is not yet very well known in the world of virtual private networks. It must be said that he is still “recent” since he was only born in 2020. However, this service based on a freemium model has a lot of assets to assert. To the point that it was bought in 2021 by Nord Security, the company that develops NordVPN.

In order to deliver the most objective as possible, we have taken the time to test and analyze all aspects of Atlas VPN. This includes its speeds, its features, its security, its policy vis-à-vis the logs, the quality of its application, its ability to operate on streaming platforms and more.

Although Atlas VPN offers a free plan, we are particularly going to be interested in its paid service which is more complete, without costing too much. You like the program ? So let’s move on to serious things without further delay.

Safety and respect for user privacy

The raison d’être of virtual private networks is to ensure your online safety. We therefore seemed logical to start this VPN Atlas opinion by the subject of security and respect for privacy.

With regard to security, the supplier provides all the necessary tools. This includes: the implementation of strong encryption (AES-256 Bits), a Kill Switch (to avoid any leak in the event of a sudden cut), and the use of different protocols (Wireguard and Ikev2). The Wireguard protocol is the one we advise you to use because it offers the best performance. It also has the advantage of being supported by all the ATLAS VPN applications.

Since we are talking about protocols, we regret the absence of openvpn. This is not a drama but we always find it interesting to have access to a large choice of protocols.

And as Edward Snowden revealed in 2013, the member countries of this alliance do not hesitate to spy on their fellow citizens and to share information. The good news is that by not recording data sensitive to your subject, Atlas VPN will not be able to transmit much.

However, we are of the opinion that it is better to favor VPN suppliers based in countries more respectful of privacy. This is for example the case of ExpressVPN (British virgin islands) or cyberghost (Romania).

Infrastructure and network coverage

As in every notice that we carry out (see our expressvpn test), we take the time to be interested in the supplier’s infrastructure.

For what ? Well simply because the number of servers and covered countries will greatly influence your experience as a user. With a large number of servers made available, you will avoid potential overloads of these. And the more countries covered, the more the possibilities will be many on the internet.

Atlas VPN announces 750 servers distributed in 44 different locations. However, after verification on our side, only 38 countries are covered. The explanation is simple: in some countries, the supplier has servers in different cities.

If you want our opinion, these figures are not very glorious. Now they explain themselves largely due to the relative youth of Atlas VPN. This should evolve in the right direction in the coming months. We hope in any case.

The important thing is to find servers in key countries like the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada or Japan to name a few.

It is good to note that servers optimized for the practice of streaming exist. They cover 12 countries. We will come back to this below in this VPN Atlas review, but know that there are also servers to boost your online safety (two categories exist: Safeswap and Multihop+).

If the countries you deem interesting are not present, we advise you to go see on the side of ExpressVPN. The latter has servers in 94 countries ! You will find it difficult to find better.

Streaming and download, what is Atlas VPN worth ?

A lot of people seek to use a VPN to access streaming content and/or to download files safely. It therefore seemed essential to us to test Atlas VPN in these specific cases.

To start, we will give you our opinion on the supplier’s abilities for everything related to streaming.

After having tested it at length on a large streaming platform, it is clear that Atlas VPN cannot be done. Whether by connecting to a server in the USA, France or Canada, the service has always been detected by the streaming service.

What about other streaming platforms ? The results were mixed. We managed to make it work on certain French TV channels, but not all. Regarding Prime Video, we had to try several servers and change protocols several times to achieve our ends. Suffice to say that it will not be a long, quiet river.

Overall, we therefore recommend that you turn to sure values ​​like ExpressVPN or Cyberghost.

Place now for P2P download. Atlas VPN does not have servers dedicated to this practice. The reason is simple, the supplier supports the download of torrents on all of his servers. That’s excellent news.

In order to ensure that the service was able to function properly, we took the time to download the image of Ubuntu, a linux operating system (rights free). Everything went for the best during this life -size test. We were able to take advantage of good flows, we did not suffer the slightest cut and our security was ensured from start to finish.

Unlike streaming, our opinion on the use of VPN Atlas for P2P download is very good. Small advice: favor a server close to your location in order to have access to the best performance.

Speed ​​test offered by Atlas VPN

This opinion on Atlas VPN would not be complete without advanced tests concerning the speeds.

To get there, we carried out speed tests for several days and at different hours (morning, lunch and evening). The goal here is simple, see if the service does not too much reduce the flows offered by our internet connection.

Rather than doing long sentences, here are the results that we were able to get on average:

• Without VPN: Ping of 17 ms / Descending speed of 55.05 Mbps / Debit amount of 25.37 Mbps
• VPN Atlas server in France: Ping of 25 ms / Descendant flow of 48.33 Mbps / Debit amount of 21.57 Mbps
• VPN Atlas server located in the United States (New York): Ping of 117 ms / Descendant flow of 32.69 Mbps / Debit amount of 13.24 Mbps

As you can see, performance is rather good. By being connected to a nearly server, the flows of our internet connection were only little impacted. And even by going to connect to a server in the United States, you can benefit from rather correct performance.

However, it will take a little more before Atlas VPN can compete with the fastest suppliers.

One thing is certain, to browse the internet, you will not be disappointed and will not notice the slightest difference once active protection.

One more thing. In its paid version, Atlas VPN does not limit your data consumption or your bandwidth.

Atlas VPN application: we give you our opinion

To judge the quality of a service, it is according to us necessary to be interested in its application. So we will now give you our opinion on the ATLAS VPN application.

The first small black point is at the level of the configuration of it. Indeed to use it, you must enter your email address then wait for a code (or link) to be sent to you. We would have preferred to find classic authentication via password to be perfectly honest with you.

In terms of application itself, know that it is only available in English. It has not yet been translated into French and it is a shame ! That said, you can be reassured, even without knowledge in English, you should be able to get out of it.

A list of all the covered countries presents itself directly to you and you only have to click on the one that interests you so that the application connects you.

The other little regret that we have is the fact that it is not possible to choose a particular server. To change server on a given country, the only possibility is to log out and then reconnect to the country in question. After that, you should get another IP address (which proves that you have been connected to another server).

Atlas VPN features

Despite its relative youth, Atlas VPN is not lacking in features. To prove it to you, we offer a detailed listing:

• Blocker of malware and software: As more and more suppliers, the ATLAS VPN application will also take care of blocking advertisements and potential malicious software. To benefit from this protection, the VPN protection will have to be active (you will find more details in the “Assistant”> “Tracker Blocker” section).
• SAFESWAP: This option is not yet very widespread in the field. It gives the possibility of changing IP address as you browse the Internet, and that in a transparent way for you. The goal here is to complicate your life to anyone who would like to track you online.
• Multihop+: The purpose of the Multihop+ is to pass your internet traffic through different servers, and therefore apply several encryption layers. This will strengthen your anonymity and your online safety. Be aware, however, that this feature will strongly slow down the flows of your internet connection.
• Split Tunneling: This feature gives you the possibility to choose which applications should or may not use the VPN tunnel. What is the use ? This allows you for example to access your bank account (without VPN), while using the service to watch the programs of a French TV channel from abroad.

Although this is not really a “functionality”, we take advantage of this section of our opinion to answer the question: does Atlas VPN operate in the country which is censor internet ?

Unfortunately no. In China, Russia but also in Turkey, the service is unable to operate. Now in countries that carry out more “light” blockages, such as the United Arab Emirates, you can count on the help of Atlas VPN.

Compatible supports and simultaneous connections

Regarding compatibility, the ATLAS VPN application can be used on devices: Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Android TV and Amazon Fire TV.

It’s not bad but it could be much better. We will note the absence of an extension for Chrome, Firefox, EDGE but also a VPN application compatible with routers. If this is something that may be missing, turn rather to Expressvpn.

What comes to catch up with our opinion at this level is the simultaneous connections. Atlas VPN does not impose any limits. Yes you have read correctly, it is possible to protect an unlimited number of devices, and that with a single subscription.

Suffice to say that it is ideal if you want to be able to share your subscription with your friends or family.

Price of a subscription to Atlas VPN

We are approaching the end of this opinion and test dedicated to Atlas VPN. It’s time to tell you about the prices charged by the company.

As we mentioned in the introduction, Atlas VPN relies on a freemium model. That is to say that it is possible, at first, to take advantage of its service for free. Now this will come with its share of limitations: only 3 available countries, no servers dedicated to streaming, no Safeswap functionality and much slower speeds.

If you want to avoid all of this, know that it is quite possible to opt directly for one of his paid plans. Three formulas are proposed, with identical features but a difference in terms of the duration of engagement (and price):

Customer support: is it up ?

Although this is not the most important point, it is good to worry about the availability and responsiveness of customer service. You are never safe to meet a problem or just have a question.
