After Netflix, Disney+ could also prohibit the sharing of accounts
Bad news… Disney+ would currently be in talks to review its policy of sharing accounts. Motivated by the success of Netflix, the platform would have launched a test phase in India, one of its most lucrative markets.

Red alert . Inspired by the economic success of Netflix, Disney+ could also end the sharing of accounts … Eh no, this is not a joke. If we believe the information revealed by the British news agency Reuters, Discussions have been in Disney+ management and a test phase would have already been started in India, more specifically on Disney+ Hotstar, the Indian variant of the platform. A choice that is far from trivial since, with more than 50 million subscribers, this country is one of the most lucrative for the American company. According to research firm Media Partners Asia, the streaming market in India could weigh $ 7 billion by 2027.
However, if some people should be encouraged to subscribe to an account, Disney+ should also be less strict than Netflix on account sharing. Indeed, to put an end to this practice, the firm with the red logo has chosen to draw the IP addresses of its users as well as their identifiers. Disney+, for its part, simply intends to limit the number of people authorized to use the same account. Concretely, today, a Disney+ Hotstar premium user can connect to their account via ten different devices. In fact, he can therefore share his identifiers ten times, with ten different people. Thus, Disney’s desire would be to limit the sharing of an account to two devices maximum. Currently, the big ears firm has not commented on the information revealed by Reuters And no one knows if, nor when, this new measure could happen on European soil.
A winning bet for Netflix
What is certain, on the other hand, is that the economic success of Netflix after the end of the sharing of accounts has greatly inspired Disney. According to the figures published on July 19 by Netflix, in the second quarter of 2023, the company recorded an explosion of its subscriptions with 6 million accounts created in just three months. The streaming giant therefore has 238 million subscribers around the world to date, 238 million subscribers. In terms of profit, the platform recorded $ 1.5 billion in revenue between April and June 2023: “Revenues in each region are now higher than before change, with more subscriptions than cancellations”, had specified the company in a press release. What make competition think !
