Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (2022): Characteristics, Price and News
Dell is one of the manufacturers of computers whose reputation is no longer to be demonstrated. The manufacturer has already offered a high -performance sleeve of PC, including the Dell XPS 13 which classifies it among market leaders. However, it should be noted that all of its offers have not been a real success.
The variant transformable of XPS 13 is notably a fine example. Dell has not yet managed to position itself in the 2-in-1 computers sector which has already been won over by Microsoft with its offer Surface. Ceasing to innovate, it could however be that he marked a good advance with his product: the Xps 13 2-in-1 2022.
This new transformable two-in-one computer could it be front of the pro surface ? To find out more, discover The characteristics, the price and all the news of the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (2022) !
Main characteristics of Dell XPS 13 2-EN-1 (2022)
Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 performance (2022)
Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (2022) has a processor Intel Core Alder Lake i7 of twelfth generation which gives speed and great performance to computers. This chip puts the bar high with a New hybrid architecture which combines high -performance hearts with low -consumption hearts.
Intel Core Alder Lake i7 of twelfth generation allows PCs to be efficient both for the performing of heavy office tasks and for video games. Dell offers two configurations of XPS 13 2-in-1 (2022).
We first find the version fueled by a Intel Core i7-1230U who offers 12 MB of cache memory, 10 hearts and can turn at a speed up to 4.4 GHz. The second proposition of XPS 13 2-in-1 has theIntel Core i7-1250U which is accompanied by 12 MB of cache memory, 12 threads, 10 hearts and can operate up to 4.70 GHz.
The second version of Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (2022) is the perfect configuration ofUltrabook 2022 likely to compete with the pro surface. But that it really is worth when it is subject to performance tests ?
Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 totals a final score of 4,433 Multi core points and 1186 Single Core points when it is requested as much as possible under Cinebench R23. An average result which corresponds to a total of 4,331 on PCMARK 10.
Intel Core i7-1250u chips have generally provided a higher score that is around 7000/1600 Or 4400/120 In other devices. We thus note that the performance of the processor was sacrificed in the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (2022). The results obtained do not represent the configuration of Intel.
The main reason that justifies this drop in performance is the strong presence of Thermal Throttling. The device has no active cooling, the heat is then dissipated by the chassis.
Everything is passive, therefore, when the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (2022) heats up too much, the processor performance is automatically two so that he does not self -destruct. It should be noted that this problem is also present on the pro surface, with the difference that Microsoft has planned a active cooling For its components.
The XPS 13 2-in-1 only meets the thermal throttling when it is requested in sustained tasks. It will therefore not be of great help, for example, for the rendering of a video or for an intense graphic. This configuration would probably be acceptable on for a gaming PC or an ultrabook classic.
For a computer transformed into a tablet, however, it will be Difficult to ignore. Dell’s proposal for XPS 13 2-in-1 (2022) still has an advantage. The device is completely silent in any situation.
Graphic card
Although Dell has not fully exploited the advantages of the configuration of the Intel Core Alder Lake i7 of twelfth generation, it should be noted that he proposes a CPU which improves the user experience. XPS 13 2-in-1 (2022) integrates theIntel® Iris® Xe which allows him to support faster and richer games.
This CPU designed for designers and creators offers up to 1080 p And 60 images per second For more detailed and immersive games. Users benefit from visual and sound advanced technologies such as Dolby Vision HDR And 3D Dolby Atmos.
The Intel® Iris® XE graphics card also has theDeep Learning Artificial Intelligence which allows him to reduce the time of performing tasks. This Dell proposal in terms of CPU makes it possible to somewhat enhance the performance of the XPS 13 2-in-1.
Storage capacity
Dell offers a RAM memory of 16 GB For all configurations of XPS 13 2-in-1 (2022). Regarding storage, the version supplied by the Intel Core i7-1230u processor has 512 GB, M.2, PCLE NVME. The second configuration of the XPS 13 incorporates a hard disk of 1 to in pcle nvme.

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 test (2022): the ventoline sprinter
Is not a competitor of the professional surfaces that wants. But Dell and its XPS 13 2-in-1 is perhaps the most likely to be a serious competitor. if only.
We already repeat it in our latest test of the Pro 9 Intel version: the formula created by Microsoft has long been copied, but never equaled. This kind of tablet which is used above all as a laptop in strange format, with a design that works without that one can really explain why.
Professionals were seduced years ago, when it is however the keeper of a brand like Dell. No wonder therefore that with his new XPS 13 2-in-1, he again tries to play the competition with the creator of Windows.

Design
Comparisons with pro surfaces will be inevitable as Microsoft’s devices are the benchmark of this particular category of the market. The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, however, does not have the same design, and is closer to well-known XPS lines today. We have a 13 -inch tablet at the 3: 2 ratio, which has become the great signature of its direct competitor, but the lines of the device are much more rectangular, much more industrial. The treatment of its metal chassis is slightly more textured, less smooth to the touch.
But above all, above all: it is a real rectangle. There is no heat evacuation provided on the latter, unlike the pro surfaces which have a kind of “gutter” throughout the outline of the device to let the hot air evacuate through a active cooling. This detail will have its greatest importance later, but on the subject of design: it is effective. We must of course love this industrial, cold, metallic language, but it is an engineering pleasure that we have before our eyes and under our fingers.

The big difference occurs when talking about the design of the device with its keyboard. Very clearly, Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is designed to be above all a Windows tablet, and not this strange hybrid that Surface has managed to popularize. The magnetic keyboard that connects via Pogo connectors is rather the appearance of those of classic tablets, under Android or iOS, and it is also thanks to this “pocket” that we can hold the device standing. The back of the XPS 13 2-in-1 is magnetized on its lower half, allowing to define the angle to which the screen will be oriented.
It is far from being as effective as the adjustable foot integrated into the design itself of the surfaces, and this allows much less possible configurations. Faced with its direct competitor capable of contorting in a few seconds, we are rather in the “passable”.
Keyboard and touchpad
This famous keyboard, let’s talk about it. The detachable keyboard of Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is simply the same as the one we have seen on Dell XPS 13 Plus, large keys glued to each other next to the other. Comfort will depend a lot on the people who use it; Personally, I have no problem with this keyboard. He has a slightly mollasson bounce that we imagine for this kind of configuration, but remains comfortable enough to be used effortlessly on a daily basis. The touchpad, with plastic coating, is of the same ilk.
What is more restrictive is the fact that this keyboard is necessarily used flat. Unlike the pro surfaces, Dell did not provide a magnet at the front of the device to allow a small tilt of the keyboard and make it more ergonomic. Using a flat keyboard is sufficient for one or two hours, but you will quickly feel it in your handles. Editor.
Connection
It will be very fast: 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports on the left side, and there. If we consider this from the angle of a tablet, it’s very good. If you consider it from the angle of a laptop, it is very little. If we compare to the pro surface … The latter has the “merit” of having its owner port in addition for recharging, which is only really an advantage in this context.
We will therefore just say that we would have appreciated having a port on each side of the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, so as to be able to adapt to the slightest situation with ease. Note that you benefit, however, from a power button lined with a fingerprint reader, an interesting bonus as part of a tablet.
Webcam and audio
Like many other devices of this kind, Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 has a camera at the front and back in order to facilitate information sharing during a videoconferencing. That being said … Dell treatment is really excellent, it is largely above any other Windows device on this specific point. The front camera is always compatible with Windows Hello, thus offering two biometric verification methods on this device alone.
A speaker on the left, a speaker on the right for a real stereo sound which is rather well defined by such a small device. What we will regret especially on the audio configuration of Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is its lack of volume. The sound is good, but does not go up high.
Screen
The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 highlights a 13-inch LCD 13-inch slab supporting a 3K definition of 2880 per 1920 pixels in the 3: 2 ratio: 2. This slab supports a refresh rate of 60Hz, and is protected by a Gorilla Glass 7 glass.
Under our probe and with the DisplayCal software, we can observe a coverage of 101.4% of the SRGB space, 71.8% of the DCI P3 space and 69.9% of the Adobe RGB. The maximum brightness is noted at 501 cd/m², that is exactly what the manufacturer highlights, for an excellent contrast ratio of 1888: 1.
In our measurements, there is an excellent average color temperature at 6492K, the NTSC standard at 6,500k that we are constantly looking for, but with an average Delta E00 of 2.51 by considering the DCI P3 space. That said, by going back to the SRGB space, the average delta E00 is then measured with an excellent 1.15.
The observation is then very simple: Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 has an excellent calibrated screen for the SRGB. Really excellent. The only disappointment is that it is not calibrated for the DCI P3, today more acclaimed and popular. Creatives can however clearly count on this computer for their creations.
Software
If only Dell did not install McAfee, this annoying advertising software. But either we cannot blame him as he is not the only one on the market. Beyond that, the follow-up software offered by the manufacturer are not particularly well constructed visually, but offer exactly what is expected of the daily management of a computer: enough to update its drivers effectively, and what Manage your computer performance.
However, to truly unlock the raw performance of the device, it will be necessary to adjust it in the Power Management software in Dell as in Windows Systems Settings. This duplicate is a bit of a shame, but most users will not even touch these settings. Also, if the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is really designed to be used mainly as a tablet, it should be noted that Windows 11 is much more comfortable than before in this context … but is not at the height of a conceptualized bone only for this use. An added stylus would be almost essential on a daily basis to find real comfort of use.
Performance
Our Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is equipped with Intel Core i7-1250U, a 12th generation SoC at Intel which offers 10 cores (2 performance and 8 efficient) and can turbo up to 4.7 GHz. Here it is coupled with 16 GB of RAM LPDDR5 and 1 TB of PCIE 4 storage.0.
Benchmarks and heating
Frandroid’s most diligent readers will suddenly have noticed that unlike the two usually separated points, we have gathered our benchmarks and heating of the device here. This is completely normal here, since it is impossible to talk about the performance of Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 without talking about its thermal management.
By pushing the performance of Dell XPS 13 2-1 under Cinebench R23 as much as possible, we end up with a final score of 4433 points in multi-core and 1186 points in single core. On PCMARK 10, this corresponds to a general score of 4331. For this configuration, it is very little: we are used to this chip, and therefore of score rather around 7000/1600 rather than these 4400/1200s found here.
The reason is simple: the thermal throttling is very marked on this device. It is a natural behavior of any computer: if the heating is too large, the computer will automatically lower its performance so as to heat less and not damage its components. On the Dell Xps 13 2-in-1, it is simply necessary. But above all, its performance does not represent the configuration of Intel at all.
The pro surface also suffers from thermal throttling. As said earlier: it’s perfectly normal. But its sustained performance remains good because it benefits from active cooling of its components. On the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, this is not the case: the cooling is passive. Like a classic tablet, he counts on his chassis to dispel his heat. Except that we are not in the presence of an Arm SoC here, but a traditional X86-64 with much more pronounced heating. We therefore find, when it is pushed to its maximum, a disturbing temperature with a touch of 45 ° C at the front as at the back of the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1. Note that in ordinary use, you will not find these high temperatures, but they are possible.
So why did you integrate an Intel Core ? For its performance on short -sighted peaks, “bursts” as they are sometimes called. On uses with sustained performance, such as the rendering of a video or an intense graph, Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 will not be your best ally. It’s a safe bet that the manufacturer is waiting for an ARM platform on Windows which really responds to its promises.
Still remains an advantage in Dell’s solution: absolute silence in any event, and perhaps less risk of mechanical failure without a fan under the hood.
Autonomy
Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is a very fine device. From then on, it is not surprising that it only has a 49.5Wh battery, which is respectable for a tablet of this order. It recharges through its USB C ports, using a 45W POWERDELIVERY charger.
In a truly office automation, laptop in short, it makes arms after 5 to 6 hours of use. In a tablet use, more moderate, more internet, more in entertainment, we turn around 7 and 8 hours, which is already much more acceptable.
You will understand: on autonomy, the 2-in-1 format of Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 plays almost against it. This is not a good laptop, but it is a rather good tablet under Windows 11 … if we are really looking for a tablet under this bone.
Price and availability
Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is already available in France, and is sold in combo with its pocket/keyboard at the start of 1899.58 euros.
