There are several reasons why we would like to get rid of an email address. It may have been unused for a while, you have simply changed your name or you just want to use only one on the many addresses (pro and personal) that you use on a daily basis. This tutorial explains the step to follow to permanently delete an email address linked to a Google account. Note that this approach only concerns a Gmail address and not other services such as YouTube, Google Drive or Google Photos … their access will not be deleted.

Precautions to take before deleting a Gmail address

There are certain things to take into account before irrevocably deleting your Gmail address. First, make sure you have saved all important data related to this account such as contacts or essential emails. You can also make sure to notify these contacts of your change of address to prevent them from sending emails on the old. Google itself offers a tool to export a backup file to your account and all the services linked in the form of a file called Google Takeout.

Note that this deletion will definitively erase all the information associated with the address, including emails, contacts and files. You must be aware that the deletion of a Gmail address is an irreversible action and that it is impossible to recover the account once it has been deleted.

How to delete a Gmail address ?

Here is the procedure to follow in several steps to delete a Gmail address:

On navigator

• Connect to your Gmail account.
• Click on the profile icon then select Manage your Google account.
  
• Once in the options of your account, go to the tab Data and confidentiality.
• Scroll the page to the line Apps and services you useand click onSummary of your services and data.
• Then click on the window Delete a service Then on the same option on the next page in order to arrive in the page below. Then click on the basket next to the Gmail icon.
• You will be invited to provide another valid email address in case you need to recover your account in the future. This option is nevertheless optional and does not guarantee to be able to recover all of the data from your Gmail address.
• After confirming the deletion, click the button Delete gmail and your Gmail email address will then be deleted permanently.
