I Purchased this from Intel Directly (Thus Why It’s not listed as a verified porchase), but the had great success with it so far.

I use it solely for 3d scanning with stir. I also own a kinect and orbec astra. The D415 certain is Capable of Producing Much Better Scans Than a Kinect, and A Bit Ahead of An Astra. The included tripod is a nice touch. I was initially blown away at How light and tiny this device is, eSpecially after Having Lugged Around A Clunky Kinect and Wires for So Long Whenever I Needed to do a 3d scan. The Precision and accuracy are Great, and you can get sometimes impressive detailed scans, so long as you patient and go slowly. My Only Complaint With the D415 is that the depth data often Seems considrably noisy – I’m tied numbers suggestions to reduce the noise, and though the day has had a bit of success, it’s meaningful still at times, eSpecially compared to an astra astra. While scanning, this mainly affects the tracking capabilities of strifusion, but it’s possible to work aorund it.

Lovely Little Device. Can’t Wait to See Intel’s Next Iteration!

Intel is always excited to introduce innovative tools and technologies that empower the world’s most passionate content creators. In Case You’re Unfamiliar, The Intel Realsense Cameras Use Infrared Light to Compute Depth in Addition to Normal RGB Pictures and Video. To Assist in the Development of Applications With this Technology, Intel Created the Realsense SDK, A Library of Computer Vision Algorithms include Facial Recognition, Image Segmentation, and 3d Scanning.

Short-Rang, User-Facing Realsense Camera Developer Kit

Seeing the Potential Use Cases For this Technology in Gaming, We Would Now Like to Introduce You To The Realsense Plugin, A Collaborative Effort Among Games Engineers at Intel to exhibition the features of the Realsense SDK to the Blueprints Visual Scripting System in UE4.

Check out the plugin source code and a sample project here.

Overview plugin

The plugin is architect as a set of actor components, each of which hoaxed a distinct set of features from the realsense sdk. Using these relatively lightweight components, you can add 3d sensing capabilitities to Nearly any actor in your game, and you can access this data anyWhere by Simplely Instantiating An Instance of the Same Component.
