Audi in turn unveils a 100 % electric sedan with 700 kilometers of autonomy

Audi A6 e-tron concept // Source: Audi

After Mercedes, it’s Audi’s turn to lift the veil on a 100 % electric sedan. It is for the moment a concept that prefigures the A6 e-tron. Promised autonomy ? Over 700 kilometers.

A few days after Mercedes and its EQS limousine with high ambitions, it’s Audi’s turn to present an 100 % electric luxury sedan. And when we travel the press release published on April 19, we can find a lot of similarities, both in language elements and in the two cars. We will remember that this Audi A6 e-tron, which is only a concept for the moment, can offer up to 700 kilometers of autonomy. The Mercedes EQS, longer (5.18 meters, against 4.96) will climb up to 770 kilometers.

Such important autonomy is a real argument for this Audi A6 e-tron, a argument which has something to reassure for long journeys (an area where electric mobility fishes). The manufacturer indicates that it has shot down a colossal blower work to give birth to a minimum drag coefficient and guarantee better efficiency. On this point, the A6 e-tron remains beaten by the EQS: 0.22 against 0.20.

Audi also wants its 100 % electric luxury sedan

Audi relies on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) development platform, designed in partnership with Porsche, to design this 100 % electric sedan. This promises performance up to expectations. Audi promises for example an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds, thanks to a power of 350 kW (two engines). Modular platform requires, several versions will be offered, with variable services. The least powerful A6 e-tron will still accelerate 0 to 100 km/h in less than seven seconds (variant to a single engine).

Like the Porsche Taycan, there is an 800-volt architecture, which makes the A6 e-tron compatible with the ultra fast load. On the appropriate terminals (example: those of the ionity network), the car will be able to collect peaks of 270 kW. Ten short minutes would be enough to recover 300 kilometers of autonomy while the battery of 100 kWh can go from 5 to 80 % in less than 25 minutes.

From a design point of view, we can feel the work done in a blower: the lines of this A6 e-tron are pure and elegant. “” An organic design of exceptional elegance and harmony, even in the smallest detail », Allows himself to Audi, with a sense of formula always a little exaggerated. He adds : ” The Audi A6 e-tron concept seems monolithic, as if it came from a single mold. For the EQS, Mercedes praised a car drawn in one. Again, there is a common point.

Audi did not want to detail the interior of this A6. It was just allowed to specify that there will be room for passengers, given the very long wheelbase. In any case, it will be necessary to wait for the second half of 2022 anyway to see the first series cars built from the PPE platform.
