Apple Music increases the price of its subscriptions “so that artists earn more”

Towled by economic inflation, Apple Music decides to increase the price of its subscriptions and then plans to better remunerate artists.

After YouTube Premium, it is now Apple Music’s turn – second most used musical streaming platform – to announce the following decision: increase the price of its subscriptions in order to better pay the artists and composer authors of its catalog. Its monthly subscription in the United States and for individuals now costs $ 10.99 and has increased by $ 1. His family subscription (with a maximum of five people) spends 14.99 to 16.99 dollars per month. The annual subscription which was $ 99 is now at $ 109. As for the United Kingdom, the individual and family plans of Apple Music will now cost £ 10.99 and £ 16.99 respectively, while in Europe, their prices will amount to € 10.99 and 16, 99 €.

According to an Apple declaration sent to CNN, the price increase is ” due to an increase in license costs and, therefore, artists and songwriters will gain more for the streaming of their music »». Indeed, macroeconomic pressures such as inflation and economic uncertainty hit the technology sector harshly. Consequently, many companies are looking for ways to stimulate their income, including video streaming services such as Netflix, for example by introducing subscriptions funded by advertising.

This is the first price increase declared by Apple Music since its launch in 2015. The company also increases the cost of the Apple TV streaming service for the first time, launched in 2019. This news is not without delight Daniel Ek – CEO of its direct competitor – Spotify, who declares: ” When our competitors increase their prices, it is really good for us because, once again, with the deep commitment we have and the lowest unsubscription rate of all competitors, we will probably get out of it better »».

Recently, Apple Music has also chosen the Palace Skateboards brand as a dj mixes on the platform.

Please note, Apple Music, Apple TV+ and Apple One prices increase !

Apple took advantage of the launch of its new updates to discreetly increase the prices of its flagship subscriptions. iCloud+, Apple Arcade and Apple Fitness+ are spared.

After increasing the prices of almost all of its products, Apple attacks its services. In most countries, including France, Apple has discreetly increased the pricing of its subscriptions (but informed some media upstream like 01NET.com). Apple Music, Apple TV+ and Apple One, the bundle that brings together everything, are now more expensive. The other services (arcade, fitness+ and iCloud) remain at the same prices.

The new prices of Apple subscriptions

Apple Music

The prices of the two most expensive Apple Music offers increase, as well as that of the annual subscription. Here is the new pricing grid:

• Apple Music Voice (only with Siri): 4.99 euros per month, as before.
• Apple Student Music: 5.99 euros per month, as before.
• Individual Apple Music: 10.99 euros per month, Instead of 9.99 euros per month.
• Apple Music Family: 16.99 euros per month, Instead of 14.99 euros per month.
• Annual Apple Music: 109 euros per year, Instead of 99 euros per year.

Apple TV+

Apple’s video streaming service, unanimously praised like the one that offers the best programs on the market, also has a good price increase. It now costs more than Netflix with pubs.

• Apple TV+: 6.99 euros per month, Instead of 4.99 euros per month.
• Apple TV+ Annual: 69 euros per year, Instead of 49.99 euros per year.

Apple One

Apple One is a package that brings together all Apple services in a single offer. Apple offers three different formulas, all change prices:

• Individual Apple One: 16.95 euros per month, Instead of 14.95 euros per month.
• Apple One Family: 22.95 euros per month, Instead of 19.95 euros per month.
• Apple One Premium: 31.95 euros per month, Instead of 28.95 euros per month.

The price increase is slightly lower with Apple One, the brand is a sort of “gift” of 1 euro.

Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness+ and iCloud+

The other Apple services are not changing a price. Arcade remains at 4.99 euros per month, fitness+ at 9.99 euros per month and iCloud+ retains the same offers, without storage increase.

This is the first time that Apple has increased the prices for its subscriptions since 2015, the launch year of Apple Music (with the exception of the student offer, which had already taken 1 euro). In other giants of services, these increases are recurrent. Netflix often increases its prices, Disney+ has already done it once, Spotify has tested several offers while Amazon recently made controversy by changing the price of its prime formula. Apple probably preferred to do everything at once to save its users. The brand explains that everything is linked to an increase in Apple Music license fees and to the greatest number of content now available on Apple TV+.
