- A deployment that begins this first quarter 2023
- Among the advantages of MIUI 14, there is a significant reduction in the storage space occupied by the apps and not the operating system
Taking advantage of the presentation of its new smartphones, the Xiaomi 13 series, the Chinese manufacturer has also announced the arrival of its next big Miui 14 update, on the old models. As you may already know, Xiaomi does not use the so-called “pure” version of Android. Its smartphones use a very modified version of the operating system, called Miui. MIUI 14 allows you to have more space
During the announcement, the Chinese manufacturer mentioned some of the advantages that users will benefit from this update. Xiaomi has for example improved the home screen, security, and offers a gallery functionality which allows you to copy text to an image. But the most interesting novelty of MIUI 14 concerns the storage space.
Indeed, compared to the old version, the Xiaomi operating system will occupy less space on the internal storage of smartphones. The manufacturer compresses the space occupied by the applications rarely used, but it has also reduced the space occupied by its system. And according to Xiaomi, these two measures save more than 7 GB of memory. This corresponds to the space that 1,800 photos would occupy.
Note that the last smartphones of the manufacturer, the Xiaomi 13, the Xiaomi 13 Pro and the Xiaomi 13 Lite will be delivered with Miui 14. And our 9TO5GOOGLE colleagues indicate that the deployment of the operating system on the models of the Xiaomi 12 series has already started.
Since Android 13 arrived on Pixel smartphones from August 2022, this update for Xiaomi smartphones is eagerly awaited. Today, Google is already testing Android 14.

Xiaomi relatively late compared to competition
If this announcement is welcome for the owners of the brand’s devices, it intervenes quite late compared to the competition. If Apple has been champion of the estate for years, manufacturers of Android smartphones make major updates a real sales argument today. This is the case of Google which has tested new Android dirts before everyone else for years with its pixel.
This year, Samsung has strongly advanced its update calendar, even on entry -level models. A trend followed by other manufacturers, like OnePlus or Oppo.
Beyond that, we observe an extension of the number of years of updates in all the brands mentioned above. A war in which Xiaomi does not seem to want to enter: the Xiaomi 13 Pro, a high -end model of the Chinese manufacturer, is only entitled to three years of major updates.

Like most smartphones brands, high -end models as the 13 series will be the first to receive update. Middle and entry -level mobiles will take advantage of it.
The other important parameter concerns the release date of your smartphone and the brand’s commitment to update your device to major Android versions as well as safety upgrades.
Xiaomi is not yet in terms of Samsung and Apple in terms of software monitoring. For its high -end models, the brand generally offers three years of major updates and four years of security updates. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the Redmi and the Poco which rarely exceed the two years of update.
To verify the latest updates and the eligibility of your Xiaomi smartphone in the next Android versions, you can test the “Miui Downloader” application developed by the brand community of the brand.
