Canal says goodbye to Cafeyn: Discover the new giant of the online press that takes its place

After Cafeyn, the team comes out of the channel offers+

Subscribers to Canal+ Sport no longer have access to the digital content of L’Equipe since Friday, the latter having stopped his partnership with the encrypted channel, more profitable, despite the loss of 200,000 digital subscribers, explained its director general, Laurent Prud’homme, at Les Echos Friday.

“After discussion with Canal+, we decided to put an end to the inclusion of digital content of the team in the Canal+ Sport offer,” said the leader of the sports media group, returning to a decision reported in late July by the encrypted channel to its customers.

“This inclusion distribution system was justified when we were a simple sports information site,” said Laurent Prud’homme.

However, “we have become a real digital platform with various content” and “subscriber income that we drew from this agreement was no longer enough to monetize our investments in this value-added content”, he assured.

By making such a choice, the team loses some 200.000 digital subscribers and therefore sees its park descend to 150.000.

But “we are organizing a value strategy and no longer of volume”, justifies Laurent Prud’homme.

The group, which has already retired from Cafeyn, does not abandon the distribution by third parties.

Canal+ puts an end to its partnership with Cafeyn which is replaced by the house kiosk developed by Prisma Media.

From mid-September, the Cafeyn digital kiosk service will be deleted from channel offers+. But that does not mean the end of free newspapers since it will be replaced by the Pass Press.

From the end of August, Canal+ sports offers will lose access to the digital service of the Team and a little more than two weeks later, it will be the turn of the Cafeyn digital kiosk to disappear but unlike the sports newspaper it will be replaced.

A Pass press by Prisma Media ?

Canal+ announced that Cafeyn would no longer be part of the offers of the encrypted channel from September 18. But if you are a daily newspaper, weekly or magazines that are available in this digital kiosk, you can continue to enjoy certain titles.

Indeed, as of September 19, the press pass entered the Canal+ offers and it will be available for all subscribers to Canal+ and Canalsat either directly via MyCanal or via the application and the dedicated website.

The chain did not give further information about this press pass but group Vivendi obliges, it is legitimate to think that the prism media titles will be available in it, the group of Vincent Bolloré bought the press group in 2021. It remains to be seen if the other press titles of the Prisma Shop will be included in it but if that were the case, that would make more than 100 titles available in the application.
