Adobe launches Firefly: a new AI to assist the creators
Currently in beta phase, Adobe Firefly will then be integrated into software, including Photoshop and Illustrator.
José Billon / published on March 21, 2023 at 6:28 p.m
On the occasion of the Adobe Summit, which takes place from March 21 to 23, Adobe has just announced the launch of Firefly, a new family of models of generative artificial intelligence. This new tool allows the software publisher to position itself in the AI race, faced with the emergence of image generators like Midjourney or Dall-E.
Adobe Firefly will be integrated into Photoshop and Illustrator
Adobe Firefly consists of several models designed for different needs. It aims to allow creators – beginners or experienced – to be able to work more effectively, and to make creations as close as possible to their imagination. The tool allows in particular text effects and generate images or videos from textual queries.
Creators have the opportunity to generate content
unique with their own words – images, audio, illustrations, videos or 3D content, but also new
brushes or degraded colors just like the possibility of transforming their videos into just a few clicks.
In addition, Adobe wishes to provide companies and creators with a solution allowing them to decline a rich and coherent visual universe. Thus, users will have the possibility of causing the model on their own content, then making it possible to create an infinity of variations from images of the same style.
Firefly is currently available online in beta version, to allow some creators to test it. Adobe will then be able to consider changes in its tool according to the first feedback. Ultimately, Firefly aims to be integrated into applications, priority on Adobe Express, Adobe Experience Manager, Photoshop and Illustrator. The tool will also be available via APIs for different platforms “In order to allow users to integrate it into their own workflows”.
Adobe ensures compliance with copyright
With Firefly, Adobe wishes to offer content adapted to commercial use. The images generated are all in high definition and free of rights. Indeed, artificial intelligence models only train on Adobe Stock content, under free license, or in the public domain (whose copyrights have expired). This allows the publisher to avoid the complications encountered by other image generators such as Stability AI, prosecuted by Getty Images for having used visuals of his site without authorization in order to train Stable Diffusion.
In addition, creators publishing on Adobe Stock will be able to select the option “Do not use for training” If they refuse that their content is used to develop models. The company also explains to think about ways to monetize creators whose works are used for artificial intelligence training.
How to access Adobe Firefly ?
To be able to test the beta version of Adobe Firefly, you will have to submit your application to Adobe. Here’s how to proceed:
- Visit the Adobe Firefly website,
- Choose the option you want to test from Text to image And Text Effects (clicking on Generate)). A third option, Recolor Vectors, will be available soon,
- Click on Request Access,
- Adobe will then present a questionnaire to fill out on three pages. You will need to enter your name, country, age, but also your uses in terms of artificial design and intelligence. Once the questionnaire is filled, Adobe tells you that you will soon be invited by email to access the tool.
