If a PDF is signed with an identification or a digital certificate, it is locked to avoid any modification of the document. The digital identifications or certificates used to sign PDF are used for commercial and legal purposes and are governed by legislation in many countries.

Can I modify a PDF that I signed ?

If you are the only signatory, You can delete the signature, then use or modify the source document.

To delete a signature, click on the signature field field and choose Delete signature.

Is there a way to recover the uncommon PDF and sign it again ?

If you are the only signatory, You can delete the signature then use or modify the document. If the document is signed by other users, you can invite the initiator to share an unsigned copy or the source document with you.

What happens if a PDF is locked after the signature ?

Sometimes the signatory or yourself choose to lock the document after the signing. In this case, the document becomes accessible in reading alone and no modification is authorized; even a signature cannot be added in the document. How to sign an Adobe PDF on Adobe Acrobat X?

Solution

  • With Adobe Acrobat X, open the document you want to sign.
  • On the right side, select Tools, Then Sign and certify in available options.

  • Move the mouse, holding its left button leaning to draw a frame in the area

    lock the document after signing to prevent any modification.
  • Once you have adapted, click the button Sign.
  • Now Adobe will ask you to save a copy of the signed document. Navigate
