The passage of Tesla V3 to V4 superchargers could bring much more than new higher cabins with longer cables.

According to Tesla Owners UK (@Teslaownersuk / Twitter), Tesla exposed, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed ​​in Great Britain, a V4 supercharge terminal with a contactless bank card reader and a space for a small display.

Previously, Tesla’s rapid chargers were only available for Tesla vehicles, there was therefore no reason to add additional authentication, payment or information systems (everything was displayed inside the car or on the Tesla application).

However, as Tesla tries to open its recharging network to electric vehicles other than those of Tesla, elements such as longer cables, bank card readers, screens or integrated CCS1 adapters (alias Magic Dock) in America from the North, are not surprising.

In addition, in some markets, as in the United Kingdom, it is planned to add bank card readers to all chargers. Thus, any electric vehicle driver will be able to pay his recharge without having to join a particular charging network (membership and/or dedicated RFID card), as is the case for the service stations.

The first two known V4 superchargers, one in the Netherlands and the other in France, are not equipped with screens or bank card players.

It should also be noted that in Europe, Tesla has been using CCS2 compatible lens for some time on its new chargers/cars, so it is not necessary to use Magic Dock to allow others Electric vehicles to take care (with the exception of Chademo compatible electric vehicles and, of course, old Model S/Model X).

Non Tesla electric vehicle drivers can currently use superchargers – included in the Supercharging Pilot program for non -Tesla electric vehicles – through the Tesla application. In the future, it may be possible to use supercomputers without a phone, simply using a bank card.
