7 months with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: Android Rolls-Royce, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra test: Premium smartphone reviews
Test of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: the king has regained his crown
Now, the Korean smartphone tends to hold a day and a half without flinching. Let’s be clear, it remains very good and it allows you not to have the margin sufficient not to worry in a day, especially with a charge per day.
7 months with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: Android Rolls-Royce
After seven months spent in his company, it is difficult to find a real complaint to formulate against the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. He has lost a little independently, but remains very good. Certainly in photo, it is not always perfect, but what freedom it gives ! Performance, comfort of use, sumptuous screen … The King of Android is there.
My colleagues jealous. They glances me when I go to the coffee machine, I saw them approaching my desk with a patibular air. All that because I took the best smartphone of the year in long test … I might have had to choose a folding smartphone or something more exotic like a Nothing Phone (2) ? But how to resist him … his autonomy of madness, his all-powerful chip, his sumptuous screen, his versatility photo. I gave in front of the ultra galaxy s23.
Rest assured, my colleagues did not confiscate me the Galaxy S23 Ultra to appropriate his powers and I was able to carry out my test. After Seven months in his company, The time has come to draw the necessary conclusions and to prevent those who would be interested.
Put a shell
We attack by a point on which I would never insist enough. Put a shell. Yes, I know, he is stupid on my part for not having hull and arriving after the war to tell you not to make the same mistake as me. But the tests are done for that. I specify that I did not damage the smartphone by pure pleasure, I even asked Samsung a shell several times, without success.

Let me tell you that I tested the solidity of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. I may be a little more clumsy than average, but have no illusions on this point: in seven months, a smartphone, it falls. It even falls a lot. If it remains perfectly functional, the ultra S23 that I use in several places in several places. Do not think that because smartphones are today much more solid, they will not be damaged, this is not the case.
That said, it must be recognized that the ultra S23 is a hard to leather. The one tested here has many traces at the slices, but only one, so to speak, deform the chassis of the phone. At the top of the screen, a fairly deep cut came to distort the metal of the framework. Apart from this main impact, the smartphone remains in an excellent condition. The particular screen does not display any trace of wear, not even the start of a stripe visible to the naked eye. When I compare to my 6 months spent with the Oppo Find X5 Pro which had finished riddled with small stripes, I find it prodigious.
Perfect screen and format, large pure kiff screen
As long as we talk about the screen, I must tell you that I loved every moment spent with him. I test between two and four smartphones per month, but I have always enjoyed finding the screen of the ultra galaxy s23 between each test. The size of the slab, 6.8 inches, the fluidity (from 1 to 120 Hz), the vibrance of the colors … We benefit from it and no one really comes to compete on the ground.
This is what best characterizes, in my eyes, these few months in his company. It is not uncommon, when you keep a long -term smartphone, sometimes find it faults, all the better underlined by the various racing cars that pass us in our hands. However, no smartphone had enough arguments to make me forget the S23 Ultra. The characteristic of an ultra device.
To continue on the screen, its slightly curved side does not hinder everyday and makes immersion stronger. I never suffered a ghost support.
What brings me in format, rather generous. There, of course, everything will be a question of taste above all. I have in my entourage people who would not support such a bulky smartphone. But I would like to invite you to measure Samsung’s progress in the matter.
I was critical of the ultra galaxy s22 which really had a brick effect. I don’t know if Samsung oils have read our tests, but it gives this impression a little. For the occasion, I even came out the ultra S22 to compare the path traveled and … the change is both subtle and important. Everything goes through much less rounded slices. We thus avoid the slippery and uncomfortable side of the predecessor.
It remains of course some downside inherent in format: the ultra S23 remains relatively heavy and it takes up space in the pockets. But if you are used to large formats, he still does very well in his kind.
Photo, pure pleasure
Without dwelling on the photo quality of the Galaxy S23 Ultra (spoiler: it tends to win most of the blind photo tests that we organize), the main thing I withdraw is that it is a great tool, capable of adapting to many situations.
In my personal case, I used it for example in the living room like the MWC or the IFA. And what happiness it was ! A subject is a bit far from me, hop, I go to X10. If I can get closer, but I want to avoid throwing a shadow on my subject, hop, I go to X3. If I want to get closer, the macro mode is there for that. And the main sensor, whatever happens, always does the job with a dive and top colors.
In a more personal setting, photo versatility allows, again, to take many shots without feeling a lot of constraints. I can catch a photo of my cat from my sofa without moving. On a trip, I tended to transform myself into a photo reporter of my loved ones and to multiply the angles of view thanks to the four modules on the back.
However, I have two or three grievances to formulate in the photo. Portrait mode is sometimes a little disappointing. I have often needed to get back to it several times, chained fuzzy shots, as soon as the brightness was not perfect. There are also a lot of self -ficus worries about this smartphone as soon as the scene gets a little complicated. I regularly take photos of connected watches and the ultra galaxy s23 tends to want to focus behind the watch.
Let us also note a few slightly strange results such as a slight veil on the face of my subjects in X10 or a lot of noise, once in X10, in low light.
The last of the good ultra ?
That a ultra galaxy s is good in pictures, and has a beautiful screen, it’s almost normal. Whether he is a performance monster, it’s more an exception. The Ultra Galaxy S23 is a very nice exception. Indeed, for once, Samsung has equipped it with a snapdragon chip rather than the usual exynos.
On a daily basis, it would be to lie to say that the presence of a snapdragon is felt. But precisely, we forget it completely, which is very good sign. The snapdragon brought me insurance, confidence, never asking the question of if my smartphone was able to launch an application and put the graphic details thoroughly. This is the equivalent on smartphone of a graphics card like the Nvidia RTX 4090.
Autonomy loses a little of its superb
When I left, I could almost last three days with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. An absolutely indestructible monster. But since then, it must be admitted, autonomy has dropped a lot.
Now, the Korean smartphone tends to hold a day and a half without flinching. Let’s be clear, it remains very good and it allows you not to have the margin sufficient not to worry in a day, especially with a charge per day.
In addition, I used the smartphone a lot in the living room context, with an extremely heavy use (video, photo, note-taking, GPS, exchanges of messages), and even if I often ended my day a little Ric-Rac. This is where the 45W load sometimes seemed a little soft, especially that it is necessary to invest in a fast charger which is not, as a reminder, not provided with the device.
We might have had to put him 10
Let’s be honest, we could have put 10/10 at the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Or rather, if a smartphone had been able to receive such a note, it should probably have been him. At the time, we had judged that the colorimetry and the lack of fast load prevented him from judging him as perfect, what a product receives a 10/10 for us.
Whether it receives 9/10 or 10/10, the result is a bit the same. After seven months spent with him, we have to face the facts: we are facing the Rolls-Royce of Android smartphones. If we do not want to condemn immediately the likely Galaxy S24 Ultra under Exynos which is coming, it will be very complicated for him, and his competitors, to exceed an ultra excellent Galaxy S23.
Especially since since its test in February 2023 its price has dropped by almost 350 euros with some sellers. It is even possible to find it below 900 euros, against 1459 euros when it was released. Admittedly it remains a small budget, but it goes without saying that this is an excellent long-term investment, a smartphone that you can keep half a decennia without needing or desire to change it.
Test of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: the king has regained his crown
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has the heavy task of assuming an ultra high -end reference reference smartphone status. It must be good in photo, autonomy, power, be resistant, offer an impeccable screen. Will the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and the 200 megapixel sensor be enough ? Answer in this test.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
June 15, 2023 06/15/2023 • 12:10
After a ultra galaxy S22 Ultra less impeccable than usual last year, it is time for Samsung to raise the glove with its new flagship, the Galaxy S23 Ultra. At a very high price, it must be to the smartphone what the hypercar is to the car, the quintessence of the genre, an impeccable product and, let’s say it, a little disproportionate.
Here are big shoes for a smartphone. Ultra-polyvalent photophone thanks to its X10, a power found thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, an impeccable screen since coming from the house (Samsung Display), daring design that says goodbye to the photo block to better say hello to the stylus … on paper the promise is enticing. What about it in fact ? Answer in this test.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra An even more comfortable design
In appearance, the ultra samsung galaxy s23 is rigorously the same as its predecessor. Rectangular appearance, erased photo block in favor of three islets in islets, disproportionate size (163.4 x 78.1 x 8.9 mm) … We seem to have rigorously the same device, as quickly pointed out in the comments to the unveiling of the device.
So yes, the ultra S22 is not far away, but very quickly, we feel that a fairly fundamental element has changed since last year. The care of. The slices have flattened considerably. Without being straight, they guarantee the comfort of a slightly more guaranteed socket. Perfect for using the stylus that requires solid support to write serenely. The smartphone threatens less to fall from the fingers too. Be careful however, this choice further strengthens its massive side. If you were already frightened by the ultra galaxy s22, you will probably be even more here. Despite its overweight, we are without incident at this generous template spent two or three days. The 234 g, even if we feel them, do not particularly bother.

This also offers the assurance of a simply gargantuan slab of 6.8 inch to which we will come back in more detail later. The flat slices also have the advantage of eating the curved screen somewhat which takes a less pronounced curvature. There too, we gain in comfort.
On the rest, Samsung, does not do things by halves and brings together everything that is expected of a high -end smartphone: IP68, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 (supposed to resist a fall of a meter on concrete) matte color which resists rather well with fingerprints. We can add a fingerprint sensor under the very responsive screen and buttons rather well placed, even if with small hands, we will tend to slip a little to get them.

To finish the turn of the phone, note that the punch is located in the central position, not necessarily ideal to enjoy the whole slab on multimedia content, but, given the size of the latter, we forgive it. Add the presence of a hatch for the stylus on the low phone slice, on the left. If you are right -handed as your servant, this is not necessarily the most practical side. The hatch for the stylus rubs shoulders with a USB-C port and a double SIM drawer.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra The screenless screen without reproach
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra screen is among the largest on the market. It is a 6.8 -inch AMOLED X2 dynamic, adaptive up to 120 Hz in one direction and 1 Hz in the other with a QHD definition. In brightness, Samsung promises to go up to 1750 cd/m².
This is undoubtedly a very pleasant slab to use on a daily basis, if only by its format which allows you to see micro-details in the image that less generous formats would not allow to see.
Skilled by our probe and the Calman Ultimate Software of Portrait Displays, the screen of the S23 ultra delivers its secrets. In bright mode, color fidelity is a bit of a trunk with a medium delta e of 4.58. As a reminder, we rather target the 3 to hope for a natural result. In exchange, it is the salsa of the colors. 184 % of the SRGB is covered, 123 % of the DCI-P3 and even 83 % of the BT.2020. The screen turns slightly towards the Blues with 6992 K, but we do not go too far from the 6,500 k of white light.
If the HDR allows to gain vibrance of colors and in brightness levels, it also leads the phone to lose precision. In HDR, the Delta E Middle rises to 7.59.
In natural mode, if the delta e gains in precision, down 3.93, this is done at the cost of the explosion of colors mentioned above. We go to only 105 % of the Gamut SRGB and 70 % of the DCI-P3. The color temperature, however, becomes excellent with 6467 k.
The maximum brightness that we have measured is 1086 cd/m² in SDR and 1609 CD/m² in HDR peak. A very good score: still very few phones exceed 1000 in SDR on our measurements and use in full sun will not be a concern. In the evening, you will not burn the retina: we have measured 0.77 cd/m² and even 0.11 cd/m² with the setting ” attenuated brightness »».
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra One UI 5.1: The finally mastered software
The Galaxy S23 Ultra turns under one UI 5.1, a version of Samsung’s house interface launched at the same time as phones and based on Android 13. We therefore find the now well installed interface of Samsung centered on use with easy hand. Even with a liner like the ultra S23, it is true that the small tiles come to stay where it is easy to reach them.
The main novelty on the horizon concerns animations. Samsung has been frequently criticized for their slowness or their character a little Laggy. It’s now ancient history. It is even the opposite: it looks like Samsung pushed the speed cursor to the opposite, to the point where we no longer see the animations at all when you quickly move in the interface. If this can destabilize a little bonus, it is also very pleasant when you are in a hurry.

New very pleasant features too: the arrival of fashions like on iOS. Completely configurable, we can create for example a reading mode which cuts all notifications of messaging applications, but which keeps access to press or reading and music applications. Each mode can be linked to a particular wallpaper and the status bar even displays the icon corresponding to the current mode. In addition, it is possible to automate them according to the period, place or application in progress.
From one UI 5 too, you can customize your lock screen in more detail. The new features of Android 13 are also welcome, such as the possibility of blocking the notifications of play after the installation of an app, or the choice of a language for each application.
Samsung now incorporates proprietary applications rather interesting to its galaxy store like the assistant camera, which allows access to more advanced camera checks. This is also a real plus. On the other hand, the Korean firm is a little greedy in the space allocated to its system. Indeed, without any installed application on our part, the phone starts at almost 40 GB preinstalled. This is a lot when you think that Windows 11 weighs 30 GB and the system weighs only 15 GB on a Pixel 7 Pro supposed to be the reference.
Speaking more, let’s not forget of course the S-PEN. When you take this out, a small shortcut bar appears, offering the compatible apps pre-recorded by you. A simple click on one of them and she launches after a small load from one to two seconds. You can also take out the S Pen with the locked phone and write on a black screen like Always we Before saving the note. Practical.
Add to that four years of Android update and five years of security follow -up and clearly, the Galaxy S23 Ultra has a very good software experience. DRM Widevine L1 provides videos at least in full HD on SVOD platforms, no problem on the horizon on this level.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Photo: The Sprédrée Sprédrée de 200 MPX
The photo configuration of the Galaxy S23 Ultra is as follows:
- Ultra-angle objective, 12 MP sensor, autofocus, pixel size 1.4 μm, FOV 120 °, f/2.2;
- Grand-angle objective (main sensor), 200 Mpx, 0.6 μm pixel size (2.4μm in 12 megapixels), FOV 85˚, f/1.7, optical stabilization;
- Telephoto x3, 10 Mpx, pixel size 1.12 μm, FOV: 11 °, f/4.9, optical stabilization;
- Telephoto x10, 10 Mpx, pixel size 1.12 μm, FOV: 36˚, f/2.4, optical stabilization.
- Selfie, 12 Mpx, Dual Photodiode, Autofocus, Pixel size: 1.12 μm, FOV: 80˚, f/2.2.
The phone is capable of filming up to 8k/30 fps or in 4k/60 fps.
Main sensor
The main sensor of the Galaxy S23 Ultra is one of the significant new features with its 200 megapixels. Of course, basic shots do not rise to such a definition and benefit from Pixel Binning To merge photosites and arrive at 12 megapixels.
There is a much less magenta color treatment from the start than usual with a turn towards slightly greenery tones. Another novelty, clarity seems to have been more pushed than before, reminiscent of the treatment of Google Pixel by certain aspects. We see it in particular on the first image in the details of the very advanced stone or the dive on the peeling of the cat.
The result is simply excellent. We lose this surrealist side of photos a little for tones a little fairer, while staying in colors just pushed enough for each photo to flatter the eye.
Only small concern on the horizon, there may be self -ficus concerns when the subject moves, probably due to the slightly low shutter speed. In the photos of the cats above, I had to get back to it several times to have a net profit.
50 and 200 Mpx
By going to the upper interface pane, you can activate the 50 and 200 megapixel modes. Here are two comparisons to give you an idea of what they bring. We have voluntarily zoomed in the image to better see the details recovered.
First, the 200 megapixels against the 12 megapixels. Without bad pun, there is no photo. We go from a blurred image, whose details are struggling to guess, to something much clearer.
Inevitably, the gap between the 50 and the 200 megapixel is less eyes. In 50 megapixels, we already keep much more detail. Elements with fairly coarse details like the fresco are already well defined. On the other hand, in 200 megapixels, we undoubtedly gain in finesse. This is noted in particular on the tree or the leaves filled with small details.
Ultra Grand Angle
In good conditions, we find the qualities aforementioned on the Grand-Angle sensor when using ultra-angle. There too, colorimetry has put water in its wine and the micro-contracts were pushed. The result is frankly stunning for an ultra grand angle, often a poor parent of the sensors. We can well use our shots.
The only time when the ultra big angle sins a little is when it runs out of light. In night photo, the result is not very convincing. On the cat cliché in the cat tree, we can see that the focus is struggling to be on its head too.
Telephoto X3
Again, for the telephoto x3, in good conditions, there is nothing to complain about. Look at this fruit basket, or the ark. The sharpness is perfect and the shots only have to be posted.
However, I noticed some concerns in artificial light, as you can see in the photo of the two cats with the black and white chair. There, we feel that the treatment applies a slight veil on the subjects or cannot really get rid of it. Nothing very grieving, this is a complicated situation.
Telephoto X10
You know the money shot At the movie theater ? It is a sequence that is supposed to give you for your money (or that of the producer). With the X10 of S23 Ultra, you are really in this category. Only the high -end ultra as they offer and, even in this category of phones at the prohibitive price, this remains rare.
Put it in the hands of people who have never had the opportunity to try a telephoto lens with such a zoom factor, the effect is guaranteed. The feeling of control and sharpness is immediate. Suddenly, to frame on a detail, no need to get closer, you just have to click on X10.
As you can see on the clichés of close -up of my colleagues, the result, even if it lacks a little sharpness, has the merit of offering a frankly amazing framing. The details allowed to keep this X10 optical zoom are quite breathtaking, as in the photo of the brown radiator or even Parisian frescoes.
The only limit on the horizon: if the subject is not perfectly motionless, the phone may have some difficulty ensuring the focus. Example below with a cat in full movement.
Zoom x30 and x100
If digital zooms do not make it possible to ensure the same precision as an optical zoom, it must be admitted that the gains in the matter are quite breathtaking.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra is really not far from the Pixel 7 Pro and its Zoom Super Res. It is even sharper in certain situations as on the statue or the door here. If we do not zoom in the image, sometimes difficult to detect that these shots were taken with a digital zoom. Impressive.
The X100 zoom is a little more hazardous. We feel that algorithms do everything they can to complete the missing information, but that remains unusable. We take advantage of at least the possibility that is offered to us to catch a detail.
Night photo
For night photos, the ultra galaxy s23 plays the card of realism more than day in the middle of the night. Under public lighting, this gives shots a bit more enlightened than reality to draw a maximum of details, at the price of a few Lens Flare. With slightly less violent lighting, the smartphone manages to manage and erase the light rays.
In darker scenes, the result is frankly aesthetic and successful. Beautiful dive, not too much light, even if we can regret a little lack of sharpness here or there. Especially with a moving subject like a cat.
The X3 comes out frankly very well at night, especially with interior lighting. The photos are clear and the white balance is just. Outside, it’s a little more complex, especially on sharpness, but nothing unacceptable.
The X10 also manages interior lighting in the evening. There too, the sharpness and the accuracy of the white balance are there.
Portrait
The portrait mode of the Galaxy S23 Ultra manages to effectively detach its subject from the bottom by applying a nice background of. Even on the most rebellious hair, it works, even if some rebel locks are slightly shortened.
Like any portrait mode, it happens that the shots are completely missed, as in these two photos which, of course, give me a little divine side, but completely miss the colorimetry, the cutting of my cat or even the effects of light in back.
Where the portrait mode shines particularly, it is with the X3. It is really there that he shows all his talents. The subject is well detained, the bitter is excellent. A real joy. Even in a somewhat complicated situation with artificial lighting like the blue shot of my colleague Anthony, we notice that the phone manages to take out an aesthetic rendering rather pleasant to the eye.
Selfie
Selfies are correct without falling to the ground. We keep a lot of details on the subject and the HDR is well managed, as the blue sky behind me can testify. On the other hand, we lose a lot of dive on the rest of the stage in the background.
Video
On the video, the device is able to go up to 4K at 60 fps or in 8K to 30 fps. Stabilization is frankly honest, there is no brutal jerk. On the other hand, around 4 seconds, when I suddenly move the camera, there is a small unsightly effect with the refreshment which seems to be jerky.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Performances: Day and Night
The Galaxy S23 Ultra is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 of Qualcomm, including its European version. This is the great novelty of this generation, undeniably. Last year, the exynos 2200 equipped the Galaxy S22 Ultra and its level of performance was frankly disappointing.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra is provided with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 256 to 1 TB of UFS 4 storage.0.

See more benchmarks
From the first benchmarks, we realize that the ultra galaxy s23 no longer plays in the same category as its predecessor. The phone exceeds a very large head the S22 ultra on just about all benchmarks. On the GPU part, the result is even clearer, we gain for example 10 FPS, an increase of almost 77 %, come to 3D Mark Wild Life Extreme on 3D. The power is there.
In play, the advances are also visible. GENSHIN IMPACT runs like a clock and stable, even with the adjustments to the maximum and in 60 fps. On a session of 20 to 30 minutes, the refreshment remained very stable. The temperature culminates at 40 ° C and the feeling of heating is not at all annoying. Very heavy.
As of Fortnite, It is a bit more unstable in terms of maximum quality at the start of the game, with some lags that seriously slow down the game. But, once the game is launched, no major concern to deplore. The game runs at 50 fps on average in “high” settings.
On a daily basis, apart from the few little uses at the launch of the phone on the first day, we did not have to deplore any slowdown. The phone reacts to the eye finger as we expect from a premium.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Battery and Autonomy: the great strength
The ultra galaxy S23 incorporates a 5000 mAh battery. On paper, it is a large accumulator, but it is not uncommon to find autonomy phones leaving something to be desired with such a configuration. The ultra galaxy s23 is not part of it.
Let us put the terms: we test a lot of phones at Frandroid. When they exceed the day, it is generally not bad, when they reach two days, we party. So when I saw that the S23 Ultra was quietly chained on a third day, I thought I got crazy. To be more precise, I disconnected the phone on Sunday at 10 a.m. and Tuesday morning, while 11 a.m. approached my watch, I still had 26 % autonomy. Indestructible.
Certainly, my use was not the most intense that is. Only 7:25 a.m. screen time, for about 48 hours, just over 3:30 a.m. Usually, my screen time is also tuning these durations and never, never, I have this level of performance.
Tested using the target software and our personalized protocol simulating varied use, the phone took 15 hours and 14 minutes to die for 10 % of autonomy. It’s a great score. He wins 12th place on the last 86 phones we have tested.
Recharge
With such autonomy, we would be tempted to say that the load speed does not matter. The Korean manufacturer still has a little bit muscular his game in the matter from the Galaxy S22 by passing the charger to 45 W. Unfortunately, it is not provided in the box and costs a trifle of 50 euros.
We were able to test the ultra S23 recharge with this charger starting 3 %. Here is the result :
- 5 minutes: 14 %;
- 10 minutes: 24 %;
- 15 minutes: 35 %;
- 30 minutes: 65 %;
- 45 minutes: 87 %;
- 55 minutes: 94 %;
- 60 minutes: 96 %.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Audio: a little too sharp
The audio partition of the ultra galaxy s23 is not its greatest force. Samsung’s phone offers a sound that falls a little too much in the treble.
This does not improve as we increase the volume of the phone. The treble then take up more and more space, while in mid-Volume, there is still a small place for the mediums. The bass is quite nonexistent. The maximum volume is not higher and the balance between the two speakers is not guaranteed, the listening speaker contenting himself with serving as a extra side. At stake, there is a certain difficulty in identifying the origin of the sounds.
In short, you will understand, we do not recommend that you use the ultra S23 without a wireless helmet or wireless headphones.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Networks and Communications
On appeal on a very busy boulevard, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is a good student. The sound is clear, the understanding subject and, above all, the noise filtered effectively, at the cost of a slight robotization here and there. A few sudden sounds manage to filter all the same when we speak, but it remains largely behind. The microphone cuts well when you are silent.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra is a 5G phone. It is theoretically capable of ensuring mmwave, but only American versions offer it. He also incorporates WiFi 6th, Bluetooth 5.3 and a NFC chip. Ultra Wide Band is also part of the lot. I did not have any worries with the GPS chip during my test.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Price and release date

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra test: a model finally successful
The king is finally back. After a 2022 halftone edition, Samsung seems to have finally found the right formula to resume his throne. Complete on all points, the Galaxy S23 Ultra promises to be the essential smartphone of this start of the year.
Presentation
Expected like the Messiah, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has the heavy task of showing who is really the boss of the high -end. After years of setbacks with its Exynos processors in Europe, which tainted the reputation of the range on the Old Continent, Samsung turns facing and includes a snapdragon chip in all of its models, all territories combined.
As a real awareness, this technical element is added a main photo module of 200 Mpx to climb to the rank of new reference to the telephony market. Let us recall, however, that the flagships of competing marks do well, and even often very well, for sometimes cheaper. Because yes, the price remains an important component of the purchasing decision and it is necessary to Samsung justify its elitist positioning.
This is what this ultra galaxy s23 will have to do, since like a good part of the manufacturers, the firm has increased the launch prices of its flagship. Thus, the front door is € 1419 for 256 GB of storage. Count € 1599 for 512 GB and € 1839 for 1 to.
To pass the pill, Samsung offers launch discounts with the 512 GB version at the price of the 256 GB, and the variant 1 to at the rate of the 512 GB. At such a price level, it is practically without competitor in the Android universe and competes with the iPhone 14 Pro Max in that of iOS. Above all, it must perfect the copy of the ultra galaxy S22 launched in 2022.
Ergonomics and design
After the aesthetic operation lavished last year at the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Samsung did not see fit to modify his flagship too much. Great good has taken it since this model is just as pleasant to the eye as its predecessor. Changes are made much more subtly and intended to improve handling.
Because yes, what is immediately noticed on this ultra s23 is the abandonment of the curvature of the slices. In 2023, they are more flat, allowing an improved grip that struck us from our first tests. The modification could seem harmless, but is important when you know that the smartphone adopts dimensions of 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.9 mm – overall identical to the 2022 model – and ranks among very large phones. It also remains heavy with 234 g.
The back of the Galaxy S23 Ultra is also similar that of S22 Ultra, in matt finish and welcoming many photo modules (five in total). These are not placed in an island, but directly integrated into the chassis. A design that Samsung has chosen to apply to the rest of the Galaxy S23 series to give it more homogeneity.
The stylus is still hidden in the smartphone chassis. Using the same concept of the Note range, alias the S-PEN, it is hidden in the low edge. A simple support is enough to eject it from its accommodation and it works exactly like its predecessors.
As always with high -end models, the ultra S23 has the IP68 standard which guarantees protection against immersion. In addition, WiFi 6/6, Bluetooth 5 connectivity.3 and NFC is ensured. USB-C 3 port.2 will allow fast recharging… and much more.

Screen
Nothing (or almost) changes in the screen, and it’s a good thing as the South Korean firm masters its displayers. Thus, the 6.8 -inch slab is still Amoled 2x, retains the 120 Hz (LTPO) refreshment rate, as is HDR10 compatibility+. Even the definition of the slab remains unchanged to a maximum of 3088 x 1440 pixels because, let us remember, Samsung allows you to modify the definition of its high-end between FHD+ and QHD+.
The same goes with the calibration of the screen, just as excellent as on the previous model. The Constance of Samsung is quite impressive on this point. As always with the manufacturer, to make the most of the display, you will have to select the natural color profile. Thanks to him, you will enjoy a color temperature at 6722 k (close to the 6,500 k video standard), as well as a Delta E at 2.5.
The brightness is just as impeccable. At the maximum, we noted 1280 cd/m² and the light peak in HDR content is 1780 cd/m². Samsung therefore respects its promises and even allows itself to do a little better than the ultra S22. At the bottom, the brightness drops to 0.9 cd/m². Very good, because there are few smartphones of the manufacturer to display brightness less than 1 cd/m², and just as rare are the competing models to achieve it.
