5G deployment observatory – April 2023
Follow the deployment of 5G and the rise in flow of mobile networks on the national territory, in your region and in your department
Where are the 5G deployments at the national level, in each of the regions, in each department of metropolis and in Reunion ? What operators have opened the most sites in your region ? On what frequencies do they deploy 5G according to the territories ? Is improving 4G+/5G performance of mobile networks already visible near you ?
In the form of cards and graphics, in a synthetic document, visualize the state of 5G deployments and their evolution in mainland France and Reunion, as well as the improvement of the rise in debit in metropolitan area in “4G+” (sites providing a theoretical maximum flow at least 240 Mbit/s) or in 5G.
Also find, in a specific document, for each region as well as for Reunion, the mapping of 5G sites open commercially by operator.
In addition to the information published in this observatory, consumers can consult the cover cards of operators to find out on the premises where the service will actually be available:
Precision on the various “states” of the sites in relation to a given technology:
- “Authorized” : sites hosting a mobile station having received the implementation agreement of the ANFR and therefore authorized to issue.
- “Technically operational” : site issuing radio waves, therefore generating exposure to waves and potentially scrambles, but not necessarily “open commercially”. Among these cases are experimental sites, sites under technical validation or sites transiently open to the public pending the official declaration of commercial opening of a city or a district.
- “Open commercially” : sites providing, by using all or part of the holder’s frequencies, access open to the public provided by mobile network equipment. In other words, these are sites that provide a service to a general public user, provided with a commercial SIM of the operator and a compatible terminal.
The data represented on this document correspond to the sites of the mobile network of each operator open commercially and equipped with 5G technologies (module 1 to 3) and 4G/4G+ (module 4). This means that these sites provide a service to a general public user, provided with a commercial SIM of the operator and a compatible terminal. The list of sites presented here is complementary to “authorized” sites (having received the implementation agreement of the ANFR and therefore authorized to issue) and “technically operational” (sites issuing radio waves but not necessarily open commercially), recorded by the ANFR. The data in this observatory is provided by operators at ARCEP.

Take part in the measurements too by downloading the NPERF application !
How do NPERF cards work ?
Where the data comes from ?
The measures collected are carried out by users of the NPERF application. These are measures carried out in real conditions, directly in the field. If you want to participate too, just download the NPERF application to your smartphone. The more data there will be, the more complete the cards will be ! All tests are displayed on the card. Filtering rules are applied before performance calculations for publications.
How the updates are performed ?
Network cards are automatically updated by a robot every hour. The speed cards are updated every 15 minutes. The data is displayed for two years. After two years, the oldest data is removed from the cards, once a month.
What reliability, what clarification ?
The measurements are made on user terminals. The precision of geolocation depends on the quality of reception of the GPS signal at the time of the measurement. For coverage data, we keep that measures whose precision of geolocation is at a maximum of 50 meters. For flow data, this threshold rises to 200 meters.
How to get raw data ?
You want to obtain network coverage data or NPERF tests (flows, latency, navigation, video streaming) in CSV format in order to exploit them as you see fit ? No problem ! Contact us to get a quote.
A pro tool for visualization of the cover cards exist ?
Yes. This tool is mainly intended for mobile operators. It has been integrated into an existing cockpit already bringing together internet performance statistics from all operators in the country concerned as well as access to the results of debt tests and coverage data. These data can be visualized by applying filters by technology (no coverage, 2G, 3G, 4G, 4G, 5G), over a configurable period (only the last 2 months for example). It is a fabulous tool to follow the deployment of a new technology, monitor its competitors and detect white or gray areas.
