10 series to see on Salto according to criticism
Salto, the new subscription video streaming service launched by TF1, France TV and M6, has been available since October 20. From 6.99 euros per month, the platform offers access to thousands of hours of programs, ranging from cinema to youth programs. And like Netflix or Amazon Prime, its main competitors, Salto offers series integrals to consume without moderation.
Beyond a few cult titles such as “Desperate Housewives” or “Buffy against vampires” and recent successes such as “Handmaid’s Tale” and “Downton Abbey”, Salto also offers some series less known to the general public, but which were fine received by criticism during their original broadcast. Business Insider France has selected 10 of them, which you can discover now.
Here are 10 series well received by the criticism to see on Salto:
1. ‘3 x manon’ and ‘manon 20 years’
Synopsis of ‘3 x manon’: “A 15 -year -old teenager is placed in an educational center closed after having violently stabbed her mother .””
Synopsis of ‘Manon 20 years’: “Now far from the closed education center, Manon, now 20 years old, has a BTS of mechanics in pocket and a companion. She tries to comply with a peaceful social life. Between work and love, Manon hopes, rushes, is mistaken, succeeds, flanks, always resists with his powerful life force, a violence also that threatens to spring when injustices are too strong … “
Critique of “3 x Manon”: “There is the finesse of writing – sobriety of psychological justifications, accuracy of dialogues -, the brilliance of realization – this way of capturing alive the pulsation of the moment – and the stunning interpretation of the young actress Alba Gaïa Bellugi.” – Téléobs
2. ‘Why Women Kill’
Synopsis: “The lives of three women living with three different eras in the same house while they face infidelity in their respective marriage.””
Critical : “‘Why Women Kill’ is intentionally a hyper intellectual series; his characters are deliberately kitsch, because of the maniérisms of their time. But, as in the previous series of Marc Cherry, ‘Desperate Housewives’, there is a impertinence in the staging that baits the viewer. Even if we can predict the end, it’s still fun to arrive at the revelation.” – Guide TV
3. ‘Inside’
Synopsis: “Ana is found her heart torn from the psychiatric hospital where she was interned against her sandstone. Police lieutenant Angèle Maury is to investigate. A first high tension mission.””
Critical : “This unique series of France 2 starts with force and immediately hooks the viewer. Undeniable added value of this creation, the dichotomy between the world of psychopaths and ‘normalpathes’ – clever semantic find of one of the patients – is built and questions us over the episodes.””
4. ‘Quiz’
Synopsis: “England, 2001. Charles Ingram wins the maximum sum in the game ‘who wants to win millions ?’. But his joy will be short -lived. He is accused of having cheated with the help of his wife. Are they guilty ?””
Critical : “It is a risky bet which, frankly, works better during a second viewing when you can better appreciate all the winks than the creator James Graham placed. But when it works, ‘quiz’ is as convincing as the show that inspired her at the start.” – Variety
5. ‘So let’s’
Synopsis: “Five young men, with various journeys and motivations, enter the Capuchin seminar in Paris in order to become a priests.””
Critical : “‘So be they” is not a model, it is a direction to follow. She shows the way, she does not impose the way to take. His main strength is to claim to be a popular fiction, capable of addressing everyone on a subject that concerns us all. And at the same time, it is a fiction that requires attention, which questions about current issues dealt with with a remarkable equity.” – The world
6. ‘Parks and Recreation’
Synopsis: “The daily life of employees of the Pawnee Parks and Leisure Department.””
Critical : “‘Parks & Recreation’ has imposed itself in seven seasons as one of the very best comedies – and even of the very best series – of recent years. [. ] [She] likes to pay for the head of her characters … but she never does it badly. The series overflows with benevolence, and takes an surprisingly optimistic look at the trajectory of Leslie Knope and her colleagues.” – Telerama
7. ‘Fargo’
Synopsis: Each season of ‘Fargo’ takes place in a city different from the American mid-West, at a different time and with different characters. But each season is inspired by the film ‘Fargo’ and other feature films of the Coen brothers. On the program: murders and scams with a meaningful sense of humor.
Critical : “Noah Hawley has created a television version of ‘Fargo’ which exists in a similar world with familiar people who are not exactly like those of the Coen brothers film. In doing so, he created his own vision while paying homage to the original and giving fans of the film another chance of living in this strange and hilarious world. [. ] ‘Fargo’ is an extremely impressive concept made with surprising vigor by Hawley and a superb casting.” – The Hollywood Reporter
8. ‘Parliament’
Synopsis: “Young freshly committed parliamentary assistant, Samy does not know much about European institutions, but hopes to get away with charm and bagout.””
Critical : “Somewhere between ‘the Spanish inn’, ‘borgen’ and ‘quai d’Orsay’, the series tells lightly (on the form) and rigor (on the bottom) the tribulations of Samy, a young parliamentary assistant who discovers the complex cogs and the human comedy that register European institutions ” – Le Parisien
9. ‘Creepshow’
Synopsis: “Inspired by Stephen King Comic Books published in the 1950s, this anthological series of horror resuscitates our worst childhood nightmares.””
Critical : “Occasional horror fans may not be really receptive to ‘creepshow’, but it is not made for them anyway. Horror lovers, on the other hand, will find there.” – Guide TV
10. ‘Evil’
Synopsis: “A psychologist must team up with a priest in training and an entrepreneur as part of surveys on supposed miracles, demonic possessions and other extraordinary events to see if there is a scientific explanation or if something really supernatural is at work .””
Critical : “‘Evil’ never looks disoriented. It goes from one tone to the other with ease and authority. Some series take time to find their rhythm. Based on the first four episodes, ‘Evil’ is immediately confident in its multiple facets identity and in its interest in raising ideological questions, which gives it a depth too often absent from the series diffused on large channels.” – Vulture

Salto: What movies and series WAUTS BEFORE THE END OF THE platform ?
Subscribers of the French streaming platform know this: the fateful date is approaching – O Despair. On March 27, Salto will go to the VOD. Yes, the one who was to raise the daring bet to be a Netflix made in France must recognize his defeat. Launched on October 20, 2020, the video -on -demand video service – owned by TF1, M6 and France Télévisions groups – offered a rich catalog of films, series and documentaries. Discounting between programs in preview, reruns and streaming. A way to compete with American giants Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV+, but also French -nal French.
Over the months, Salto had been able to seduce a small million subscribers and get out of the game by obtaining the dissemination of certain HBO content. We think of the “Harry Potter” saga, the special program reunion “Back to Hogwarts”, that devoted to actors of “Friends”. Without forgetting the diffusion rights of the “Sex and the City” reboot. Unfortunately, last November, the rumor of a closure of the platform was already making a big noise. Then, in January 2023, TF1, M6 and France Télévisions officially announced their intention to close the streaming platform. One of the reasons ? The failure of the merger between the first and the sixth channel.
Films and series of the Salto catalog
The countdown is therefore launched. But before the cleaver fell, we advise you warmly from Binge Watcher these programs. After, it will be too late. On the series side, no hesitation, we swallow up the episodes of “Yellowstone” with Kevin Costner, we crash in front of “one, back, very: new generation” and we conduct the investigation with Robert Langdon in “The Lost Symbol”. Rather moviegoers ? We go back in time by watching the cult saga “Sissi” and Alice Winocour’s film, “Augustine”. We shiver in the snow with “Winter Sleep”, and we catch up with lost time thanks to Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts in “It is never too late”. Finally, if the documentaries are more your Dada, do not miss the “Outreau affair”, “La Fabrique du Lie: Johnny Depp / Amber Heard affair” or “The sect: under the grip of the temple Solar “.
To discover in this gallery:
The exciting series “Yellowstone”
Kevin Costner and Keilly Reilly are replying in one of the events in recent months: “Yellowstone”. She follows the epic of the Dutton family, owner of a huge ranch, plagued by recurrent attacks by property developers of the region and politicians. A captivating family saga.
The captivating series “The Lost Symbol”
If you appreciate the police series full of puzzles at the “Da Vinci Code”, it is indeed for you. And for good reason, the television program made up of ten episodes is the adaptation of the eponymous book of Dan Brown. We find a young Robert Langdon – before he was embodied by Tom Hanks in the cinematographic sage -, investigating with the CIA on the kidnapping of his mentor. Addictive.
The nostalgic series “one, back, very new generation”
If you spent hours ahead of “one, back, very” in the early 2000s, the revival of the cult series should please you. Frying choreographies and original characters make their comeback at the Carmen Arranz dance school in “One, back, very: new generation”. A tasty return to the past.
The “Augustine” period film
Directed by Alice Winocour in 2012, the film “Augustine” brings the meeting of Jean-Martin Charcot to the screen with a young woman with hysteria. We are in 1885. A striking story, inspired by Louise Augustine Gleizes, a teacher’s patient when he was practicing at the Salpêtrière hospital. Casting ? Vincent Lindon, Soko and Chiara Mastroianni. A feature film, presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 and which then allowed its director to be appointed in the best film category, during the César ceremony, the following year.
The film Palme d’Or “Winter Sleep”
Winner of the Cannes Palme d’Or during the 67th Festival, “Winter Sleep” is produced by the Turkish filmmaker, Nori Bilge Ceylan. The film is interested in Aydin, a retired actor, who became the manager of a small hotel in Central Anatolia. The arrival of winter revives resentments – especially against his wife from whom he has moved away – pushing him to leave.
The cult film “It’s never too late”
This film by and with Tom Hanks, will have a good time. This romantic comedy tells the story of Larry, a model employee of about fifty years, returned to the pretext that he has never graduated. Now unemployed, he decides to resume studies. It was there that he meets the young Talia – who undertakes to revamp him from head to toe – and Mercedes Tainot (Julia Roberts), her oral expression teacher, blasé by her job.
The essential saga “Sissi”
We no longer present the films “Sissi”, made by Ernst Marischka in the 1950s, with Romy Schneider in the title role. All are available on the streaming platform. So neither one nor two, we immerse ourselves in the romanticized life of the Empress of Austria and we go to the court of Vienne.
The well put together documentary “La Fabrique du lie case Johnny Depp: Amber Heard”
The investigation is based on the case that hit the headlines last year between stars Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Against the background of fierce judicial battles, the documentary tries to understand how the fake news is born and propagated from this affair and how they invaded the web and unleashed public opinion.
The upsetting documentary “The Outreau affair”
This two -part documentary, dedicated to the Outreau affair, accurately mixes fictional scenes, unpublished testimonies and archive images. A poignant program that returns in detail to one of the greatest French judicial fiascos, having led to the acquittal of thirteen people.
